PART 1: ASTRONAUTS
We trained for years for this.
Our engineers have studied
To build new rockets,
And to fix our past mistakes.
Now, we can’t make mistakes.
As we make our way,
All of the way.
We’re the first to travel
To a new place like Mars.
Me and two others
Drift almost astray,
As we sail through the dark
And into a new day.
As we enter, the ship’s engulfed
By burning flames of Mar’s air.
The land rumbles as we land
Into the new yet old air.
We see some movement near a hill,
And out from behind, new things appear.
PART 2: INHABITANTS
As we awake to a burning light
We notice it’s not a star
But flames not so far.
As it approaches we hide behind
A hill, not so tall but oh quite wide.
When the earth shook we made a stir.
Then we asked since when, and what for?
We wonder lots and heard a thunk,
And peeked to see a man, from earth.
