EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

It’s getting late… I need to jump right into this week’s books.

Also-rans: Batman: Bad Seeds-Sunset #1 (A cover), Sorcerer Supreme #9, Hello Darkness #24, Fall of the House of Slaughter #4, The Greatest American Hero #2 (Cover A), Hammerfist #1, Rom #1 (Die-cut cover), Denver #1 (D cover), and Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy #1 (A Cover).

Bronze Medalist

The Greatest American Hero #2

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Rafael Loueriro

This is an awesome homage cover to Amazing Spider-Man #50, the Spider-Man No More cover. Ralph front and center, walking as if he had something better to do. Love the look of the book and this has been a huge win for me from Amp Comics.

Silver Medalist

Bad Thoughts #3

Cover art by Dave Wachter

I love the colors of this cover. With the stream of red blood from the recently dead body flowing across the yellow ground. The black background with the red title works so well for this book.

Gold Medalist

The Greatest American Hero #2

Variant Virgin Cover B

Cover art by Eranga Devasurendra

Greatest American Hero has two of the top three this week, with the A Cover in the also rans. The red and black cover is just a beautiful cover with the scene of the UFO in the blackness. Spectacular cover on this book and my favorite of the week.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

August 20

Here we are, back on Thursday nights. And it is a big week of covers. Legitimately, there are a bunch of covers that could be in this medal round. There were three exceptional Something Epic covers and a Mark Spears that wound up on the outside looking in.

Also-Rans: Something Epic #14 (Cover A, B, C), The Phantom vs. the Singh Brotherhood #1, Mortal Thor #800 (Cover A), Avengers Armageddon #3, Daredevil #5, Punisher vs. the Amazing Spider-Man #2, Nights #20, Absolute Flash #18, Absolute Green Arrow #4, War Wolf #8, and Nightwing #141.

Bronze Medalist

The Lucky Devils #9

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Steeve Seeley

This cool cover makes one of the Lucky Devils kind of look like Hot Stuff, which was one of my favorite characters of my youth. This is such a fun thing.

Silver Medalist

Uncanny X-Men #34

Cover art was done by Luciano Vecchio & Matthew Wilson

What an awesome look at Gambit. He sure looks like the Gambit we got at the end of season two of X-Men ’97. I love the black and white look with the red and green jumping off the cover.

Gold Medalist

Thor #800

Variant cover Foil

Cover art by Declan Shalvey

A beautiful foil cover for the 800th issue of Thor, here technically as the Mortal Thor. The blue of the cover truly stands out with the foil background. It is a beautiful piece of art.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

August 12

This is the last Wednesday night EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week as I have to return to the classroom and will not be able to get both the books at Comic World and In This Issue in the same day like I did this summer. The plan is to move the post to Thursdays starting next week.

For the last Wednesday, we have some great covers.

Also-Rans: Infernal Hulk #10 (A cover & F cover), Absolute Batman #23, X-Men #35, The Punisher #7, Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #2, D’Orc #7, Hank Howard in The Fair Play #1, Clayface: Celebrity Dirt Story #2 (C Cover), Batman & Robin Year One: Dynamic Duos #1 (D cover), Venom #260 (Cover B), Laugh Vol. 1 #166 facsimile (Cover C & D).

Bronze Medalist

Of the Earth #4

Cover art by Charlie Adlard

I had a hart time with the final choice this week, but the blue/black cover really stood out and those eyes are very amazing.

I am not sure what the black across the face is, but it is truly compelling.

Silver Medalist

Barbara Gordon: Breakout #4

Variant cover E

Cover art by Mark Spears

This beautiful cover by Mark Spears is one of the best images of Barbara Gordon I have ever seen and her orange prison attire against the black background really makes this stand out.

Gold Medalist

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1

Variant Cover B Foil

Cover art by Pere Perez

A stunning foil variant cover that I picked off the stands this morning. The gold foil behind Miles is just amazing and I love the black background and white title. I did not think anything was beating Spears’ Barbara Gordon, but this was just undeniable.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

August 5

The penultimate post of the Wednesday EYG Comic Covers of the Week. I have next week, and after that, I have to return to school and so it’ll probably have to return to Thursday nights.

The covers are strong again this week.

Also Rans: The Omega Book #1, Dead Teenagers #5, The Deadman #3, Ben 10 #4, The Other/Half #4, White Sky #5, Marc Spector: Moon Knight #7, Captain America #14, Fantastic Four #15, Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1, Amazing Spider-Man #34, and Power Rangers: Green #1 (virgin).

Bronze Medalist

Amazing Spider-Man #34

Variant Cover E

Cover art by Simone Di Meo

Neat Spidey cover from Amazing this week. I love the perspective of this cover as Spidey web swings right toward the viewer. Amazing Spider-Man is racing toward Legacy number 1000 soon.

Silver Medalist

Power Rangers: Green #1

Variant Cover F Foil

Cover art by Tony Harris

I was excited to hear about the futuristic take of Tommy the Green Ranger and this foil cover that I saw on the stand today was awesome. The beautiful green foil stands out well and the art on the cover is exceptional.

Gold Medalist

Fantastic Four #15

Variant Cover E

Cover art by Kris Anka

Look at this spectacular cover featuring Sue Storm on the variant cover of the 65th anniversary for Fantastic Four. It is beautiful and really does an amazing job of making her look like she is partially invisible. It is so lovely.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

July 29

The fifth week of the month still brought us some great covers.

Also Rans: Queen in Black #1 (Cover C), X-Men #34, The Horror of Godzilla #1, The Patron #1, Feral (Cover A), Greatest American Hero #1 (A Cover), Justice League: Knight Vision Special #1 (Cover C), Feral #25 (B cover), The Mortal Thor #13, and The Dirt Beneath the Devil #1.

Bronze Medalist

Feral #25

Cover F virgin foil

Cover art by Trish Forstner & Tone Rodriguez

Feral has had some of the best covers during its run, and this wraparound foil virgin cover is right there with some of the tops. This is a lovely foil of Cover A, which still made the Also-Rans.

Silver Medalist

Doomquest #2

Cover art by Alex Ross

Dr. Doom leading the Revolutionary War soldiers across the Delaware River is a fun cover, done even better by the iconic Alex Ross. This is a wonderfully enjoyable cover for a fun series.

Gold Medalist

Greatest American Hero #1

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Rafael Loureiro

This is my favorite cover for the new Greatest American Hero series from the number ones. It is an homage cover, which I always enjoy, of Action Comics #1. The use of Amp Comics in the title is clever and the drawing of Ralph was great.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

July 22

Welcome back to the EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week. We have another very strong week of covers with some real winners.

Three variant covers this week in the medalists.

Also-Rans: Amazing Spider-Man #33, Wonder Man #5, Sicko #1 (A and B), Dog Tag #3, Terminal #1 (Die Cut cover), Terminal #1 (Arthur Adams variant blind bag cover), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #20 (aka #300) Variant Laird & Eastman virgin cover, Gambit Wanted #1 (F cover), and Bad Thoughts #2.

Bronze Medalist

Amazing Spider-Man #33

Variant Cover C

Cover art by David Nakayama

I absolutely loved this moment in Spider-Man’s career, where he was forced into wearing an old FF costume with a paper bag on his head. The “Unknown Superhero!” This cover brought the nostalgia for me and one of my favorite moments of my childhood, which is why it gets the bronze medal this week.

Silver Medalist

Hello Darkness #23

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Jenny Frison

Hello Darkness continues to have some of the best covers. In fact, I believe I picked up three total covers for this book this week. Jenny Frison has had a great career making these kind of horror covers. The red is really a great standout cover.

Gold Medalist

Gambit: Wanted #1

Variant Cover B Foil

Cover art by Kris Anka

This is just gorgeous. The beautiful foil cover with the cards and the staff all charged up complements the dark background and the smile on everyone’s favorite Cajun. This new mini series had several awesome covers, with this being the top.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

July 15

This is the biggest week pf the year. I have a ton of books that made the first cut for cover of the week. It was a huge challenge to narrow it down to just three, but I have dedicated myself to not having any more ties for the calendar year of 2026.

All three of the medalists have white backgrounds, which is a weakness of mine.

This is huge Also-Ran category this week. A couple of them just barely fell short of the medal round.

Also-Ran: D’Orc #6, Fall of the House of Slaughter #3, Something Epic #13 (Cover B, C), Fantastic Four #14, What If…? Jessica Jones #1, X-Men #33, Mister Nemo #1, Mark Spears Monsters #11 (Cover A, B, D), Of the Earth #3, Space Ghost Annual #1, Minotaur #1, Absolute Green Arrow #3, Arcadia #6, Horror Comics #1, Kingdom of Earth #1, and Assorted Crisis Events #9 (Cover C).

Bronze Medalist

Mark Spears Monsters #11

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Mark Spears

Last year’s Cover Artist of the Year is back with another awesome shark cover. There was a foil cover of a shark for cover B, but this one stood out more for me. The blue color working against the white background really helped this shark to pop off the cover and the water skier in her yellow bikini… well, she is in for trouble. This is a great cover and having it in the Bronze medal tells you what this week was like.

Silver Medalist

Avengers Armageddon #2

Cover art by Dike Ruan & Moreno Dinisio

This one started off down the list of the books this week, but with each swipe past it, it picked up momentum until it finally placed itself as the silver medalist. The face off with Iron Man and Red Hulk inside the cloak of David Colton really is striking. Then, the white background with the slight strip of red beside the title is very attractive. When I first separated out the first round of books, this one was not my choice, but it just got better each time I looked at it.

Gold Medalist

Captain America #13

Variant Cover- Marvel Dimensions

Cover art by Alex Ross

The Marvel Dimensions covers have been awesome, but this black and white cover from Cap #13 is heads and shoulders above some of the others that I have seen. It is a stunning piece of art that I saw on the stands and, despite already having a butt load of books that I was buying today, I had to have it.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

July 8

Another loaded week of books. Lots of fun covers.

Also-Rans: From Parts Unknown #3, Daredevil #4, Fury of Firestorm #4, Black Cat #12, Tyler Rake: An Extraction Story #3, Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1 (B cover), Star Crossed #1 (E cover), and Innards#2.

Bronze Medalist

Operation: Iron Coffin #1

Cover art by Tyrell Cannon

Dracula vs. Nazis. So awesome. The great cover by Tyrell Cannon seeing Count Dracula ready to snatch a train. The big red moon in the background is beautiful too.

Silver Medalist

Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #1

Variant C Cover

Cover art by Dave Johnson

This felt like a movie poster cover to me, and I have found those to be some of my favorite ones over the last year or so as there have been a bunch of these. I am also a fan of the white background as I always am. The look of the folds across the cover is cool as well.

Gold Medalist

Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1

Variant Cover D

Cover art by Javier Pulido

It’s a PEZ! I loved this virgin cover. It was an expensive book but I could not deny it. I could not leave it on the shelf. It is truly a brutal and beautiful and bloody cover.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

July 1

Big week of books this week. It was difficult to narrow it down to just three, but I wanted to make sure I avoided any ties since that week a few weeks ago when we had three ties.

Also-Rans: Ordained #3 (A cover), Ordained #3 (B Cover), 100 Bullets: The US of Anger #1 (C Cover), Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia #4, Marvel Swimsuit Special: Brand New Beach Day #1 (A Cover-wraparound), The Deadman #2 (A Cover), The Deadman #3 (D Cover-Mark Spears), Neighborhood Watch #3, The Punisher #6, Babylon Cove #2, Marvel Swimsuit: Brand New Day #1 (E Cover), Dead Acre: Black Badge #1, and Comics! The Magazine #5.

Bronze Medalist

The Deadman #2

Variant Cover E- Glow in the Dark

Cover art by Steven Subic

I was picking this book up for Todd at In This Issue and I just could not leave it out of my own collection. I did not know it was a glow-in-the-dark issue. It was just so beautifully disturbing with the stunning black and white and the image of Deadman in the center of the cover.

Silver Medalist

The Mortal Thor #12

Cover art by Alex Ross

Alex Ross is one of the masters of covers and this one with Thor and Sigurd crawling out of the eyes of Donald Blake is creepy. Then, the green shading of the cover is really something you do not see on a cover often. This one is a standout.

Gold Medalist

The Last Starfighter #1

Variant Cover D

Cover art by Stephanie Hans

I went to pick up the A cover of this new book from Mad Cave, but I put it back on the shelf when I saw this cover. I loved this cover and its dark, shadow across the character with the beautiful stars and space in contrast behind him… just spectacular.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

June 24

Also-Rans: Captain America #12, Infernal Hulk #8 (Alex Ross variant), Gotham Academy #5 (B cover), Doomquest #2, The Twilight Zone #8, Blood of the Wolfman #1, and Nectar #4.

Bronze Medalist

The Hab #3

Cover art by Charlie Adlard

This is such an awesome cover with this monstrous creature with some green stuff and those bloody teeth. This is such a dominant looking cover. Love it.

Silver Medalist

Feral #24

Cover B Variant

Cover art by Trish Forstner & Allen Passalaqua

It was another of the classic horror movie homage covers that is just awesome. I love every one they do, and this one is no exception. Colors are great.

Gold Medalist

Narco #4

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Daniel Hillyard & Dave Stewart

Another homage cover as this one is an homage for Alfred Hitchcock. So much creativity on this cover and the body shadows floating around Marcus like the Birds. Love it.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

June 17

This week, I decided to make sure that we only had three medal winners this week instead of having ties for each medal like last week. That was just excessive.

Also-Rans: Odin #2, Absolute Batman #21, GI Joe #23 (B&W variant), Something is Killing the Children #48 (variant cover B), The Trillion Dollar Kid #1 (B Cover), Land of Never #1, Dog Tag #2, Nightwing #139, Smile: For the Camera #4.

Bronze Medalist

X-Men United #4

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Kris Anka

Woof.

This is an absolutely stunning cover featuring Emma Frost. I have always enjoyed the white background and … I mean… look.

Silver Medalist

Hello Darkness #22

Variant Virgin Cover

Cover art by Anwita Citriya

So very creep and a beautifully demented cover with the red tint makes the decapitation so much fun.

Gold Medalist

Of The Earth #2

Cover art by Charlie Adlard

Another beautifully creepy cover. I loved the look of the bird flying across the sun. The creepy hand coming out of the ground is great.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

June 10

Big week. This is also a major record breaking week of the EYG Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week. We have a tie for each of the three medalists this week! WOW! And that is even excluding a couple of amazing books that only can crack the Also-Rans

Also-Rans: Absolute Catwoman #1 (foil cover F), The Nice House by the Sea #10 (B Cover), Bad Thoughts #1, Mark Spears Monsters #0 (A Cover), Tarzan Beyond #1, Mark Spears Monsters #0 (C Cover), Mark Spears Monsters #0 (Cover B), Muppets Noir #4 (Cover B), and D’Orc #5.

Bronze Medalist (TIE)

Space Ghost #12

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Michael Cho

This cool cover of Space Ghost #12 featuring Space Ghost with the black background. It is a beautiful piece of art that I picked up off the newsstand today.

Fury of Firestorm #3

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Dustin Nguyen

Another beautiful cover of Firestorm. The image of Firestorm is so simple and just spectacularly lovely. The colors are perfect and it really stands out as a wonderful cover.

Silver Medalist

Mask #1

Variant Cover (Gold Foil Blind bag)

Cover art by Andres Juarez

Pulled this out of a blind bag and I was so excited about the gold foil book. The image is simple, but the overall look of the cover is sensational.

Transformers #33

Variant Cover F

Cover art by Tom Reilly & Adriano Lucas

This is a celebration issue of the anniversary of the Energon Universe books at Image. This one has a bunch of Transformers and GI Joe upon it. It is such a fun and chaotic cover.

Gold Medalist

Barbara Gordon: Breakout #2

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Matteo Scalera

I love this variant cover of Barbara Gordon: Breakout #2 with Barbara Gordon in her orange prison outfit along with all the other prisoners. * The animals, the animals
Trap, trap, trap ’til the cage is full
The cage is full, stay awake
In the dark, count mistakes
The light was off but now it’s on
Searching underground for a bit of sun
The sun is out, the day is new
And everyone is waiting, waiting on you

Orange is the New Black

The Fall of the House of Slaughter #2

Variant Cover H Virgin

Cover art by Sam Wolfe Connelly

What a gorgeous virgin cover. I love the black and white cover with the imagery that makes me wonder what is going on here.

No theme song here…

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

June 3

It’s Wednesday and it is the first of the summer EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week post. Lot of fun covers. There were actually a lot of fun foil covers this week.

Also-Rans: Junk Punch #1 (Foil Variant), The Lucky Devils #8, The Twilight Zone #7, Cyclops #5, Wade Wilson: Deadpool #5, Ben 10 #1 (Green Blind Bag Foil Variant), and Fantastic Four #12.

Bronze Medalist

Batman #10

Foil Variant Cover F

Cover art by Jorge Jimenez

This was the top foil cover this week among a bunch of fun foil covers. The gold foil on the interior of the cape and the buildings really jump off the page with the dark background of Gotham. A beautiful foil cover.

Silver Medalist

The Deadman #1

Cover art by Martin Morazzo & Chris O’Halloran

I love the Deadman and this cover is very striking with his white face amid the scary monstrous heads behind him. The white and the red make a very standout cover and it definitely has that Ice Cream Man vibe to it.

Gold Medalist

Fantastic Four #12

Marvel Dimensions Variant Cover

Cover art by Alex Ross

Alex Ross brought his awesome game with this cool Marvel Dimensions cover of the Fantastic Four. I actually saw a foil version of this cover but I did not pick it up (which I believe may have been an error). This is just a spectacular pose with the foursome in a kick ass pose. Alex Ross has shown his art has not slipped at all.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

May 28

This is the last week for the Comic Covers of the Week coming out on Thursday. Next week, I will be getting all my books on Wednesday and will do this post on Wednesday evening until school resumes in August.

Also Rans: Is Ted Ok? #4, Mark Spears: Monsters #10 (Variant Cover D), Mark Spears: Monsters #10 (Variant Cover B), Doomquest #1 (variant cover F), Justice League Unlimited #19 (variant cover D), The Ultimates #24 (variant cover C), Exquisite Corpses #13 (variant cover B), Feral #23 (variant cover B), and Red Roots #1,

Bronze Medalist

Mark Spears: Monsters #10

Variant Cover E

Cover art by Mark Spears

The issues of Monsters #10 were strong covers and this one stood out the most. The scary appearance of Drac here makes this pop off the cover. I love the colors in the background as well.

Silver Medalist

The Flash #33

Cover art by Gavin Guidry

The cover of Flash #33 is beautiful, with the exploding nuke in the middle of the city and reflecting in the Flash’s head. This stands out among the other books on the stands. The red and yellow of the explosions and of our speedster really work well together.

Gold Medalist

The Hab #2

Cover art by Charlie Adlard

What an image! This is remarkably distinct with the blood and the bed covers. This is a breath-taking cover that is both amazing and disturbing. Beautiful wrok.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

May 22

Interesting week of books.

Also-Rans: Nectar #3, Seven Wives #1, Zorro #1, Odin #1, Of the Earth #1, Absolute Green Arrow #1, Deadly hands of Kun-Lun #4, Smile: For the Camera #3 and Everyone Loves a Jewel Thief #2 (A Cover)

Bronze Medalist

American Caper #7

Cover art by Tyler Boss

This is an excellent cover for this series. The outline of the guy with the gun and the prison and wolf showing inside that silhouette is a great use of the imagery for this issue. I am a sucker for the white background too (even with the splatter of what looked like blood).

Silver Medalist

Everyone Loves a Jewel Thief #2

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Jacob Phillips

I love this variant cover. I had the A cover in my pull list already, but I felt the draw to pick up this cover too. The color is a real standout, with that odd greenish hue.

Gold Medalist

Narco #3

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Daniel Hillyard

This is another fun variant cover that I could not resist on the stand. It reminded me of the Feral horror homage covers. This movie poster-like cover is great and the colors work very well together as well.
