EYG Comic Cavalcade #138

We had some ice last night in the weather and it has led to there being a no school day today after I had a personal day on NEW COMIC BOOK DAY. All that meant that I had some open time to finish reading the books and the EYG Comic Cavalcade is able to come out early this week.

I picked up several graphic novels yesterday, two at Comic World and two at BAM!. At Comic World, I grabbed We Called Them Giants by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans and Fantastic Four: Season One by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and David Marquez. The Gillen/Hans book is beautiful and really great. At BAM!, I got Dark Horse graphic novel Skull and Bones: Savage Storm by John Jackson Miller and James Mischler and the beautifully drawn The Road, adapted by Manu Larcenet.

This is a double dose of Marvel this week as the missing shipment from Diamond (boooooo) last week arrived with this week’s books. Diamond is really setting themselves up as the antagonist of this column.

Books this week:

Exorcism at 1600 Penn #3. Written by Hannah Rose May and art by Vanesa Del Ray. Cover art was done by Vanesa Del Ray. The possession of the President’s daughter takes more steps forward as Kevin tries to convince everyone that it was happening. I was getting frustrated how these adults were all so blind with their denial, but it seemed like everyone has come around to the truth as the penultimate issue of this series concluded.

Deadpool #10. Written by Cody Ziglar and art by Roge Antonio. Taurin Clarke did the cover art. Deadpool and Ellie are back from the dead with their healing factors compromised. Taskmaster tried to help them train their fighting style to adjust. I was not a huge fan of this issue or the way they have downgraded Deadpool’s healing factor. I am willing to see where they go.

The Patchwork Girl of Oz #1. Adapted, Illustrated and cover art by Otis Frampton. This is an adaptation of one of the novels from L. Frank Baum and I really enjoyed it. It was a surprise to find it in my box, because I did not remember actually ordering it (I’m not saying I didn’t do it. Just did not remember it). I like the more cartoony art here because it worked so well with this story. I found this to be very joyous.

Hellhunters #2. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and drawn by Adam Gorham. Variant cover art by Salvador Larroca & Edgar Delgado. This World War II series with these characters continues to be interesting, especially now that Logan (aka Wolverine) has joined the crew. He has made it much bloodier than it had been. This dynamic is intriguing as well.

Namor #7. “The Battle of the Eighth” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Paul Davidson & Alex Lins. Varian Cover art by Olivier Coipel (Silver Medalist). I thought this was epic. Namor facing down the leaders of the different ocean kingdoms. Namor’s battles were so awesome.

The Ultimates #9. Written by Deniz Camp and guest artist is Chris Allen. Cover art was done by Dike Ruan & Neeraj J. Menon (Bronze Medalist). We get a whole issue featuring Luke Cage in jail. This Ultimate universe continues to be rocking hard.

Spider-Boy #15. “All Eyes on the Prize.” Written by Dan Slott and art by Paco Medina. with Spider-Girl’s origin art by Humberto Ramos & Edgar Delgado. Cover art by Paco Medina and Edgar Delgado. The Dragon’s Challenge rolled on as we end up with a final battle between Daredevil & Spider-Boy and Bullseye & Spider-Girl. Daredevil does something to protect Bailey that was unexpected and costs them dearly.

Avengers #23. “The Casino Job Part 2” Written by Jed MacKay and art by Farid Karami. Cover art was done by Valerio Schiti & Alex Sinclair. The ultimate odd couple is taking on the Avengers this week. Kang the Conqueror and the Black Cat. Huh? Strange pairing for sure, but Kang needs someone to steal something and he chose Felicia.

The Spectacular Spider-Men #12. “Hero Worship.” Written by Greg Weisman and art by Emilio Laiso. Cover art was done by David Baldeón and Edgar Delgado. The two Electros return and are about to defeat the two Spider-Men until we get the appearance of a scaly surprise. Honestly, this issue felt a little lesser than it has been recently. We’ll see how it goes from here.

X-Men #10. “Brinksmanship.” Written by Jed MacKay and penciled by Netho Diaz. Cover art was done by Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer and Marte Gracia (Gold Medalists). This was another epic issue that was highlighted with a tension filled confrontation between Cyclops and Lundqvist. This scene was just awesome and stood out as one of the best one-on-one verbal matchups in the entire series. I loved this.

Juvenile #3. Written, illustrated and cover art by Jesus Orellana. Juvenile has just been a tremendous book over the first three issues. Sara and Max are amazing together and there is a ton of stress after they are recaptured from their escape attempt. What is going to happen to them? It is especially up in the air after we see Ella. This might be my current favorite independent book going.

Justice League: The Atom Project #2. “Cold Fusion.” Written by Ryan Parrott and John Ridley and art and cover by Mike Perkins. I will admit that I was not as into this issue of the series as I was issue #1. I do like super powered polar bears though.

Absolute Superman #4. “Chasing the Storm.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Rafa Sandoval. Rafa Sandoval & Ulises Arreola did the cover art. Superman seems to be messing with the Peacemakers, and they are not happy about it. I actually thought this was the weakest of the Absolute Superman books so far too. Still, I like this new take on the character.

Ultimate X-Men #11. Written, illustrated and cover art by Peach Momoko. This was an interesting book. There were several mentions of other Ultimate books, including Black Panther and the new Black Cat. I wonder if this was included to make sure everyone understood that the Ultimate X-Men was still taking place in the same universe even though it is so different from anything else.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #2. Written by Frank Tieri and art by Michael Sta. Maria. Tyler Kirkham and Arif Prianto did the cover art. I enjoyed how this book is building the world of this time, with all of these groups vying for power. Plus, Sabretooth takes on an alligator man. Always fun.

When I Lay My Vengeance Upon Thee #2. Written by Gus Moreno and illustrated and cover art by Jakub Rebelka. More possession this week as Father Stygian and Father Barrera have to face some seriously gross stuff.

Frankenstein New World: The Sea of Forever #1. Script by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden & Thomas Sniegoski. A follow up series from ten years ago, Mike Mignola returned to Frankenstein and young Lilja following her vision above ground. I like this take on the Frankenstein story in this new series from Dark Horse.

Parliament of Rooks #3. Written by Abigail Jill Harding with Richard Starkings and illustrated by Abigail Jill Harding. Darius has gone full monster form, though his thoughts are still with his beloved Princess Seraphina. Some beautifully drawn monster images make this book stand out. I am curious to see how this Ablaze book wraps up.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #4. “Rats” Written by Jed MacKay and art by Devmalya Pramanik. Davide Paratore did the cover art. Things are going rough for Moon Knight as he is out for vengeance of those that killed the Midnight Mission. Moon Knight takes it to another bloody level.

In Bloom #2. Written by Michael W. Conrad and art by John J. Pearson with Lola Bonato. John J. Pearson did the cover art. The story of the people “blooming” take another turn in a much more shocking and graphic manner. There were a couple of scenes of pure horror in this book.

Storm: Lifedream #1. Cover art was by Taurin Clarke. There are three different chapters of this Storm story that is written by and drawn by different teams. I do enjoy me some Storm and this does cover a long part of her history. It is clear that there are big plans moving ahead for Ororo Munroe.

Red Before Black #4. Written by Stephanie Phillips and illustrated by Goran Sudžuka. Goran Sudžuka with Ive Svorcina did the cover art. This book has been reminding me of Thelma and Louise while bringing in a character this issue that made me think of the Crocodile Hunter. Lots of fun.

What If Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen #1. “Tipping the Scales.” Written by Kalinda Vazquez and art by Daniel Picciotto. Ron Lim and Israel Silva did the cover art. This is the final of the What If Galactus series and this book felt the same as a lot of the others. I was enjoying the set up, but the book ended before the big final battle. This left me feeling unsatisfied as many of these recent What Ifs have. I thought this was an excellent HALF of a story.

Power Man: Timeless #1. “Something New” Written by Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly and art by Bernard Chang. Andrei Bressan & Rachelle Rosenberg did the cover art. This is the surprise of the week. I did not expect this to be a new series. I was not a fan of the previous Power Man: Timeless one shot from a few months ago, but this was great. They brought this Power Man into the 616 universe (it seemed like) and I suddenly found his adventure engaging as could be. I never thought I would want to read on with this book, but I do.

Phoenix #8. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Alessandro Miracolo. Yasmine Putri did the cover art. Jean Grey is going through some personal growth inside a cocoon? We get the new form of Phoenix at the end.

Wolverine #6. “Lineage.” Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Martin Coccolo with Martin Coccolo and Bryan Valenza did the cover art. Laura arrived in the book to help Logan follow the clues that are leading them to Adamantine.

Two-Face #3. Wild, but I could not find the creator credits inside this issue of Two-Face. The cover listed Ward, Veras & Plascencia but that was all I could find. I found the creators of the few pages of Zatanna at the end of the book that is appearing in all of the DC books this month. The Two-Face book has been good so far as we get a big reveal at the end of it.

Psylocke #3. “Lady-Killer.” Written by Alyssa Wong and art by Vincenzo Carratù. Cover art was done by Mahmud Asrar & Matthew Wilson. This was a solid issue of Psylocke as she met up with John Greycrow, after finding his bloody arm with a note on it last issue. This was probably my favorite issue of the series so far.

Scarlet Witch #9. Written by Steve Orlando and art by Jacopo Camagni. Russell Dauterman did the cover art. Hey, fresh off her appearance in the Avengers, Black Cat is now here stealing from Wanda. Felicia is really giving those luck powers a go. Not sure why Black Cat has suddenly been everywhere, but I don’t mind it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6. Written by Jason Aaron and art by Juan Ferreyra. Cover art was by Jorge Fornes. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back together and… things are falling apart. They can’t get along and spend most of this issue fighting with each other. And Donnie is carrying around a rat claiming it is Master Splinter. Things aren’t good for the Turtles.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #137

Hey, it is time for the EYG Comic Cavalcade. Diamond still has not gotten things straightened out so it is a slighter week this week with no Marvel books. However, next week could be a massive week… that is if next week’s Diamond’s order can get there. I am not holding my breathe.

Today, before I went to see the movie Presence, I went to a comic shop in Davenport. I was curious and I googled to see what comic shops were in the Quad Cities. One seemed easy to get to so I picked it. The parking was horrendous, and the shop, to be honest, was like an armpit. It reminded me of Comic World when it used to be down on Central in Dubuque, only much smaller. There were boxes and piles of comics everywhere. It reminded me of Todd’s storage lot (hee hee hee).

I was hoping that there would be some smaller independent books that hadn’t been ordered at Comic World that I could pick up. There was not a ton of new issues, but there were some. For example, I picked up the Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger #2, which was a Spawn book that featured a beautiful Mark Spears cover. I had not intended on buying it, but since I saw it there for cover price, I picked it up. I also grabbed the Superman/Lex Luthor #1 book that I was not overly interested in and a foil covered Ultimate Spider-Man #13. I felt like I needed to buy something to make the trip worthwhile, and I think I picked up some fun books.

Books this week (minus Marvel):

Ice Cream Man #43. I do think my favorite horror series is Ice Cream Man and this issue has an awesome gimmick: One-Page Horror Stories. This was my favorite book of the week with very short stories by some of the greats including Grant Morrison, Patton Oswalt, Jeff Lemire, Zoe Thorogood, Geoff Johns, Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Good Old Neon, Deniz Camp, and Frank Barbiere. The art for the entire book was done by Martin Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran (except for three others: Good Old Neon, Zoe Thorogood, and Ashley Walker). The cover art was done by Ryan Quackenbush.

Silverhawks #1. Written by Ed Brisson and art by George Kambadais. I have cover A by Lucio Parrillo. There are only about 5 million covers for this book. That is hyperbole, but there are literally three pages at the back of the book showing all the variant covers for this book. I can’t imagine that there is any collector anywhere who can purchase all of these covers from Cover A to Cover ZZD (+ a bunch of retailer exclusives). Dynamite has been solid recently, and I enjoyed this book too, with a passing of the torch for a new era of Silverhawks.

Freddie the Fix #1. Written by Garth Ennis and art by Mike Perkins. Todd has been looking for this one for quite awhile for me, and he was finally able to get his hands on it. It has a cover quote from Stephen King saying, “It’s Crazy Good!” Part of the Ninth Circle imprint from Image, this was a fun story with a “fixer” in Hollywood trying to fix things for the monsters that worked in Hollyweird… and I mean monsters literally. Lots of fun.

Redcoat #9. Creators: Geoff Johns & Bryan Hitch. Variant cover B art was done by Mark Buckingham & John Kalisz. We get a brand new character to interact with Simon Pure. A flashback issue featuring Johnny Appleseed. This was another really good comic from this Ghost Machine imprint of Image.

Blood Train #1. Written by Adam Glass and art by Bernard Chang. Another one shot issue from Ninth Circle, Blood Train reminded me very much of the Korean movie Train from Busan. A train and a virus that can turn someone into a creature… always a great story.

Mark Spears Monsters #3. Written, drawn and cover art by Mark Spears (Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist). This book became the first sweep winner of the Favorite Cover of the Week for Mark Spears, with the Jaws cover winning going away. It is a beautiful cover. I love this series too as the fun with monsters continues.

The Seasons #1. Written by Rick Remender and art and cover art by Paul Azaceta. I am not sure what I thought about this book. It was a very strange book involving characters named after the seasons. This kind of reminded me of the Disney short Paperman.

Sherlock Holmes: The Dark Detective #3. “Arena of Darkness” Written by Christopher Sequeira and art by Philip Cornell. Sherlock and Watson seemed to have solved the Chimera mystery in this issue… so much that I thought this was the final issue, though the cover says that there will be a fourth issue.

Sam and Twitch: Case Files #10. Written by Jordan Barel & Todd McFarlane and art by Thomas Nachlik. Cover art by Jim Muniz & Jonathan Glapion. The case of Twitch’s officer shooting is getting even stranger than it was before. This new storyline is very interesting.

Hello Darkness #7. The other regular horror anthology series. Hello Darkness has been consistently good with some of the short stories inside being actually outstanding. My favorite in this issue was titled “Evermore,” written by David hazan and illustrated by Stefano Nesi.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #136.ONEDOLLAR

Welcome to a special edition of the EYG Comic Cavalcade.

I wanted to include issues from the one dollar box that I picked up this week at Comic World, but I did not remember to add a paragraph at the beginning of yesterday’s post. So I thought we could cover it by doing a bit of a parody.

Marvel has done this several times, with Amazing Spider-Man being the top offender. In fact, just this month, Amazing Spider-Man released issue #65 and then a week later released Amazing Spider-Man #65.DEATHS. Then, this week they had ASM #66. Why they numbered the books in this way is beyond me. Why can’t #65.DEATHS just be issue #66 and continue their numbering from there? As the kids say, IDK (I hate IDK, by the way).

I have done plenty of parodies involving comics during the Comic Cavalcade (I joked about Legacy Numbering once before) so this is officially EYG Comic Cavalcade #136.ONEDOLLAR.

Books from the One Dollar box this week:

Avengers Vol. 3 #10. “Pomp & Pageantry” Written by Kurt Busiek and art by the legendary George Perez. It is an anniversary of the Avengers and the city is celebrating. This roster of Avengers features Firestar and Justice, which I like quite a bit. The party crasher is the Grim Reaper who resurrected a bunch of dead Avengers to fight against the team. Funny enough, I do not think any of them are currently dead in continuity except the original Captain Marvel and maybe Swordsman and Thunderstrike. Wonder Man, Mockingbird, Hellcat, and Dr. Druid are all currently alive and active in the Marvel Universe. It’s funny.

Black Book #1. Todd chastised me about this. He said I had never heard of the company Comico before, implying that I shouldn’t care about this book. It turned out the Black Book #1 is just a promotional book for comic that had been and will be (maybe) released by Comico. I saw both Space Ghost and Jonny Quick in here, which is funny since they are both out in Dynamite.

Captain America #601. Written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Gene Colon. The Winter Solider tells Nick Fury (the original one) a story of World War II where Cap and Bucky had to fight vampires. Listed as “A Very Special Issue of Captain America” on the cover, this was a neat book, especially with there being so many vampires in the Marvel Universe today.

The Stuff of Dreams #1. This is subtitled “A Kim Deitch Comic Book.” Kim Deitch was an American cartoonist who worked in the underground comix scene during the 1960s. This book, released in 2002, was very much in the style of those underground comix, black and white and full of controversial material.

The Dreaming # 21-23, 25, 30-31, 35. This is a Vertigo book, which was an imprint of DC Comics at the time (and is once again, I believe). It is a book of horror stories set in the Sandman universe. It featured some of the lesser Sandman characters. The books looked attractive, but I do not think I would pick up any unless they arrive in the dollar box again.

Ex Machina #9, 11-12, 33. This book is written by Brian K. Vaughn, which is absolutely a selling point, but I love the phrase Deus Ex Machina which, honestly, why I picked these up. This apparently sprung out of the events of 9-11 and I will say that, though I have not read these yet, I have scanned them through and I find this more intriguing than the Dreaming. This is from Wildstorm Comics, which was also an imprint for DC.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #136

It is time for the EYG Comic Cavalcade once again.

This week I did something that I rarely do. I picked up a 3rd printing of a book. I prefer the first printing and have been known to skip it if it is not 1st prints. However, Mark Spears Monsters #1 third printing had an all-new cover by Mark Spears and I loved it. It earned a bronze medal in this week’s Favorite Comic Covers of the Week and Spears continues to be absolutely fire.

Books this week:

Superman Annual #11. “For the Man Who Has Everything“. Written by Alan Moore and art and cover art by Dave Gibbons. I was talked into buying this by Todd. He talked about the story, how it had been adapted into one of the animated shows. He guaranteed that I would love it, and…. it was fine. Two things really stood out to me. This was a different Batman. He called Jason Todd “chum.” That was like an Adam West Batman line. Then, Robin saved them all, and nobody thanked him. Good thing Jason was there.

Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon #1. Written by J. Michael Straczynski and art by Will Robson. Cover art was done by Gary Frank & Alex Sinclair. Doctor Doom needs some specific help. And who does he call? Of course, he calls Rocket Raccoon. This was a fun issue, but some of the Dr. Doom lines felt strange, kind of out of character. It was not disqualifying for me, but it felt odd.

Amazing Spider-Man #66. “No More.” Written by Justina Ireland and art by Andrea Broccardo. Mark Bagley & Richard Isanove did the cover art. Peter is is a serious funk. The whole 8 Deaths of Spider-Man has seemingly broken him. I’m not convinced that he would be acting this way, but I do like how Cyra was so confused by his behavior. The whole kissing Black Cat was strange too.

Black Canary: Best of the Best #3. “Round Three.” Written by Tom King and art by Ryan Sook. Cover art was done by Ryan Sook. I have really enjoyed this series so far. Batman makes a guest appearance as does Ted Grant. Black Canary and Lady Shiva kicking the crap out of each other. I love this series. Tom King has done it again.

G.I. Joe #3. Written by Joshua Williamson and art and cover art by Tom Reilly. There are some trouble inside the Joes and physicality breaks out. Meanwhile, Clutch is inside Cobra, trying to stay hidden and get a message to the Joes. Will Cobra Commander find him? The new G.I. Joe has been solid so far.

Fantastic Four #28. “Die By the Sword.” Written by Ryan North and penciled by Steven Cummings. Cover art was done by Joshua Cassara & Dean White. Reed and Sue try to find a way through the magical dome over Latveria and they approach Dane Whitman, the Black Knight for aid and suggestions. Things don’t go the way they want. I have loved Ryan North’s run on FF, and I am excited that he gets to write the upcoming One World Under Doom event series.

Uncanny X-Men #9. “Off the Leash.” Written by Gail Simone and art by Andrei Bressan. Cover art was done by David Marquez & Matthew Wilson. I did not like the end of this one. I was shocked at the final page image with the brutal Wolfpack, a group of dog-like sentinels. I definitely hope something happens to save the character that look pretty dead at the end.

TVA #2. Written by Katharyn Blair and art by Pere Perez. Cover art was done by Pere Perez and GURU-eFX. We have Sylvie. We have Daimon Hellstrom. Such a fun group of characters, including our favorite ones from the Loki Disney + series. However, I am worried about Mobius. He ended the book looking pretty bad, in a pool of blood. I do not want him to be dead.

Ultimate Spider-Man #13. Written by Jonathan Hickman and art by Marco Checchetto. Cover art was done by Marco Checchetto and Matthew Wilson. Peter and Harry are in a lot of trouble as they are in the Ultimate Universe’s Savage Land as Kraven prepared to hunt them. I hope we get a Ultimate Ka-Zar. Meanwhile, Richard is trying to take his missing father’s place with the help of the AI that had replaced Peter.

Time Waits #3. Written by Chip Zdarsky and David Brothers and art by Marcus To and Marvin Sianipar. Marcus To did the cover art. Robert is back in his time and is on trial for his life. Wyatt is out for his own revenge. Robert is actually just looking to get back to his love. Zdarsky has been excellent over the years, and I do enjoy this one. I have had a little more challenge to follow these characters, but it is entertaining for sure.

X-Men: Xavier’s Secret #1. Two stories in this one shot, first one featuring Cyclops and Jean the night before she headed off to outer space as Phoenix. The second one dealing with Charles and his machinations.

W0rldtr33 #12. Written by James Tynion IV and art by Fernando Blanco. This series returned from its break. This was just like I remembered it. Confusing but completely engaging. This was involving Sammi and a flashback (?) to 1999. I love the layout of the book panels. It is original and creative.

Drawing Blood #7. Written by David Avallone and penciled by Ben Bishop. Cover art was by Kevin Eastman. Another book that was back after several months off, Bookman goes home to Maine and does not find himself welcome. We get a glance at the back story of our favorite fictional comic book writer.

Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale #2. Written, illustrated and cover art by Luana Vecchio. A second issue that i think I liked even more than issue one, which I liked a lot. Maddie finds herself in a bunch of bad situations, with boys at school and a weirdo from the gore forum she had been posting on. There are some real tense moments here and you are never sure what might happen. This has been a great story so far.

Blade Red Band #4. Written by Bryan Hill and art by Federica Mancin & C.F. Villa. Blade and Elena have some bloody fights, chopping several vampires to pieces. This may be one of the few “Red band” books that really earned that title. Blade is still in pursuit of Pontious.

Justice League Unlimited #3. Written by Mark Waid and art and cover art by Dan Mora. Plastic Man is here. I am not sure where the Plastic man recent series falls in continuity, if at all, but Plastic Man is recovering his powers here. And what happened to Swamp Thing??? This new Justice League book has been solid so far and I do like how there are a bunch of characters to use instead of just Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Hyde Street #3. Featuring storytellers Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. Cover art was done by Ivan Reis & Danny Miki with Brad Anderson. Merry Christmas on Hyde Street. Pranky and Mister X-Ray are after Santa Claus. Yup, that is right. And then we get an appearance by the Matinee Monster. The level of horror weirdness in this series has been sensational so far. It reminds me of the best of Ice Cream Man.

Mystique #4. “Covers” Written, art and cover art by Declan Shalvey (Gold Medalist). Mystique is in search of Destiny. But she is doing it with a much more powerful ability. The ability to mimic the powers of the person in which she is shape shifting into. Angel? Juggernaut? Others? What about Nick Fury? This has been a showcase for Raven so far.

Phoenix #7. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Marco Renna. Yasmine Putri did the cover art. Phoenix takes on Thanos, who has the special artifact called the Wizard’s Eye, giving Thanos even more power. Can Phoenix stop him? Guest starring Nova, Rocket Raccoon, Captain Marvel and Sif.

The Tin Can Society #5. “Just Kids” Written by Peter Warren and art by Francesco Mobili. Cover art was by Francesco Mobili and Chris Chuckry (Silver Medalist). Our group of friends, investigating the death of their friend. They launched an assault on who they thought it was. This woman had a suit, but she was not inside it. The final page was a shocking reveal. I have enjoyed this book every issue. I wish I knew the characters better, but it has been a ride the whole time.

Metamorpho #2. “The Woman from Yesterday!” Written by Al Ewing and art by Steve Lieber. Cover art by Steve Lieber and Lee Loughridge. The relationship between Rex mason, Metamorpho and Sapphire Stagg hit a snag in this issue with some cool elemental action. I still enjoy the throwback feel this book has adopted.

What If Galactus Transformed Rogue #1. Written by Ann Nocenti and art by Stephen Byrne. Ron Lim and Israel Silva did the cover art. The next of the series of What If…? involving Galactus having to choose a different Marvel hero to be his herald. This was is okay, but the gimmick may be starting to show some ware. Watcher was back this issue though and he is always welcome.

Space Ghost #9. Written by David Pepose and art by Jonathan Lau. Bjorn Barends did the cover variant C art. Space Ghost is in a battle with the supervillain Metallus and so much is in jeopardy. Space Ghost has been such a surprisingly good series from Dynamite.

Iron Man #4. “Hellman Circle” Written by Spencer Ackerman and art by Javier Pina. Cover art was done by Yasmine Putri. It also said that the Scarlet Witch spread was done by Rod Reis. Iron Man, Ironheart and Melinda May team up to raid a Stark factory. And they come across yet another Stark Sentinel.

I got the DC/Image books on Wednesday on NEW COMIC BOOK DAY and then the Marvel/Dark Horse/DSTLRY etc. on Friday, making a full week of books. I am afraid this may be the new status quo moving forward until Diamond figures out what exactly is going on.

We had two of the Favorite Comic Covers of the Week, but only one Comic Cavalcade. When I got back from Wolf Man early this afternoon, there was no internet and it was out until around 5:30ish. That gave me an opening to finish off the books for this week.

Books this week:

Green Lantern Dark #1-2. Written by Tate Brombal and art and cover art by Werther Dell’edera. I picked up #2 a few weeks ago because it looked interesting and I seem to be liking the Elseworlds books in DC more than I like the Marvel alternate future books. I picked up the #1 on eBay and I grabbed a beautiful foil virgin cover. This was a lot of fun, and, with the creative team involved, it had definite feel of Something Killing the Children to it.

Amazing Spider-Man #65.DEATHS. “Death and the Spider.” Written by Derek Landy and art by Kev Walker. Cover art was done by Mark Bagley & Richard Isanove (Silver Medalist). Not sure why ASM does this. Why not just make this issue #66 instead of making it 65.DEATHS? Peter Parker is struggling with what he is having to do as earth’s champion and Phil Coulson’s, the possessor of the Death Infinity stone, presence does not seem to be helping much.

The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos #15. Written by Tate Brombal and art by Isaac Goodhart. Cover art was done by Nick Robles. This arc of Christopher Chaos ends with this issue as we get the truth behind what exactly Christopher Chaos is and we get a path forward. Apparently this book will be continuing with a new storyline moving forward, and this was one of the best issues of Christopher Chaos in awhile.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #29. “Webs of Wakanda Part Three.” Written by Cody Ziglar and art by Daniele Di Nicuolo. Cover art was by Federico Vicentini & Ceci De La Cruz. The Miles is a vampire storyline came to a close with his face off with Black Panther. Miles seems to have picked up yet another problem with Anansi.

Avengers Assemble #5. Written by Steve Orlando and penciled by Jose Luis. Cover art was by Leinil Francis Yu & Romulo Fajardo Jr. The Aveng.e.r.s all assemble to take on the Serpent Society in a big war in the end of this mini series. I did like the combination of these characters with Cap.

What If…? Galactus Transformed Moon Knight #1. Written by Alex Segura and penciled by Scot Eaton & Chris Campana. Ron Lim & Israel Silva did the cover art. This is the third of this stretch of What If books featuring Galactus. This book was okay, featuring Moon Knight and the other previous Galactus heralds.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2. Written by Christos Gage and art by Eric Gapstur. Leonardo Romero did the cover art. The book tied to the upcoming Disney + animated series is a fun book. Spider-Man figures out his web sooters and then faces off with the Enforcers in this issue.

Ultimate Wolverine #1. Written by Chris Condon and art by Alessandro Cappuccio. Cover art was by Lee Bermejo. Ultimate Wolverine is this universe’s Winter Soldier. Powerful story as the Wolverine goes through some faces that we recognize. It is a violent book and a really strong start for one of the most anticipated Ultimate books of the run.

Standstill #6. Written by Lee Loughridge and art by Alex Riegal. Cover art was by Andrew Robinson. Ryker is in pretty bad shape and Colin is even worse as this book has two more issues remaining. I say it every time, but I love the way this book is structured and put together, panel-wise.

Challengers of the Unknown #2. “Mother June” Written by Christopher Cantwell and art by Jorge Fornés, Sean Izaakse, and Amancry Nahuelpan. The cover art was done by Sean Izaakse and Jorge Fornés (Silver Medalist). The mystery involving the Challengers of the Unknown and the Justice League Watchtower marches on with Batman and other Leaguers investigating.

Those Not Afraid #1. Written by Kyle Starks and art by Patrick Piazzalunga. Glenn Fabry did the cover art. Two serial killers meet up and decide to see which one of them can set the all time murder record. A wild mini series from Dark Horse.

Juvenile #2. Written, art and cover art by Jesus Orellana (Bronze Medalist). Juvenile is one of my favorite new books from Image. I love the relationship being shown of Max and Sara. I love the set up with the kids being drugged to keep their telepathy and telekinesis in check.

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #3. “Do the Collapse” Written by Alex Segura and art by Cian Tormey. Cover art was by Cian Tormey & Romulo Fajardo Jr. I have been enjoying this series and I love how it is weaved in with Challengers of the Unknown and Justice League. Question and Batwoman are trying to figure out things while doing what they can to trust each other.

Feral #9. Written by Tony Fleecs and art by Trish Forstner & Tone Rodriguez. Cover B art by Trish Forstner & Tony Fleecs. Tragedy strikes as our cats try to figure out what is going on with the Lady. Feral has been consistently excellent and filled with stress each issue.

Knights vs. Samurai #4. Written by David Dastmalchian and art by Fede Mele. Cover art was done by Gianenrico Bonacorsi and Bjorn Barends (Gold Medalist). Knights, Samurais and dragons…oh my!

Exceptional X-Men #5. Written by Eve L. Ewing and art by Carmen Carnero. Carmen Carnero & Nolan Woodward did the cover art. Finding out about Kitty’s murderous past sent a ripple through the new students, causing some to bolt.

Laura Kinney Wolverine #2. “The Devil in Me- Part 1” Written by Erica Schultz and art by Giada Belviso. Elena Casagrande & Edgar Delgado did the cover art. Laura heads into Hell’s Kitchen and she winds up on the other side of Daredevil (aka Elektra). They then team up to try and stop a group using an exploding mutant to blow up a protest.

Nights #12. “Nice While it Lasted.” Written by Wyatt Kennedy and art by Luigi Formisano. This issue definitely feels like a conclusion in many ways. I had not paid too close of attention to this book for the last several issues and it has been a long time since #11 came out. This felt like a satisfying issue though while leaving it open for future books. This is probably my last one though.

Living Hell#2. Written, drawn and cover art by Caitlin Yarsky. Jerome is out in search of demons and ghosts to return to hell. There are some intriguing creatures in this issue, including the two spirits of old women who were on the cover. Lot of creativity in this Dark Horse book.

Incredible Hulk #21. “Wolves of the Old World Part Two” Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and art by Danny Earles. Nic Klein did the cover art. Hulk, Werewolf by Night and Charlie, in the Godskin of Lycana face off with the monstrous wolf Varcolac. Incredible Hulk has been a little up and down recently. I do like the use of Jack Russell in this book.

Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale #1. Written, illustrated and cover art by Luana Vecchio. When I picked up the Lovesick series a year or so ago, I was not a huge fan of the book. It was interesting, but kind of dirty. I debated whether to pick this issue up. I was glad I did because this was a really good story that was still rough at times. The story followed 12-year old Maddie through some tough situations. I was compelled with the story the whole way.

Minor Arcana #5. “The Ballad of Budd St. Pierre, 1976.” Written, art and cover art by Jeff Lemire. We get some back story on Budd St. Pierre, Teresa’s late grandfather. This felt like a bit of a filler issue, but it is important to learn more about this character.

Storm #4. “A Flame in the Wind.” Written by Murewa Ayodele and art by Lucas Werneck. Mateus Manhanini did the cover art. Storm is having dinner with Dr. Doom. She had to not use her mutant powers for seven days because of the deal that Brother Voodoo had made to save Ororo’s life. She may not make that time limit.

Immortal Thor #19. “Tales of Asgard.” Written by Al Ewing and a whole bunch of artists. Cover art was by Alex Ross. We do not have Thor in this Thor comic. We come across a lot of the other characters around Asgard, including Sif, the other dimensional son of Thor, Magni, Loki, the Warriors Three, Executioner and Enchantress.

Rogue the Savage Land #1. “Heroes Never Come Home Part 1: So Alive” Written by Tim Seeley and art by Zulema Scotto Lavina. Kaare Andrews did the cover art. A flashback series when Rogue wound up in the Savage Land with Magneto. I like Rogue, I like Ka-Zar and I like the Savage Land so I think this one will be fun.

You Won’t Feel a Thing #1. Written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Jock. John Reader was a retired detective, dying of a brain tumor, but one of the cases that shook his life as a young man, The Chatter Man, is back. Can his once sharp mind help bring this vicious serial killer to justice. A great and challenging story from DSTLRY.

Through the Boughs #1. A group of Christmas stories from a plethora of great comic creators. Creators including Patrick McHale & Jim Campbell, Sweeney Boo, James Tynion IV & Jensine Eckwall, Molly Mendoza, Ryan Andrews, K. Wroten, and Grim Wilkins.

Other books this week: Finders Keepers #1, Skin Police #4, Anansi Boys #7, Spirits of Vengeance #5, The New Gods #2, The Nice House by the Sea #5 and the Moon is Following Us #5.

Welcome back to the EYG Comic Cavalcade! It was a big week this week especially with the back issues.

Last week I had purchased the first five issue trade paperback of Sex Criminals and I really enjoyed the book so I went to eBay to search up for the series and I found the whole series, #1-30 and #69, available. I will say that when they came in that big box, I was not prepared for the covers that were on these books. I was needing a fan to cool off. The quality of this book was high and that should not be a surprise considering it was done by Matt Fraction & Chip Zdarsky. I have not yet read all the books, but I am looking forward to it.

Another reason I got a nice influx of books this week was because Comic World added four $1 boxes of books and I could not avoid the sale. I picked up a bunch of Ed Brubaker Captain Americas, most of vol. 2 of Challengers of the Unknown, some issues from Neil Gaiman’s 1602, as well as an Avengers Annual from 1999.

Back to eBay, after this week, I am down to just five remaining Groo the Wanderer books from Marvel/Epic that I am missing. The late issues of that book are difficult to find because they were low printed at the time.

Other books this week:

Amazing Spider-Man #65. “Signifying Nothing.” Written by Joe Kelly and art by Cafu. Mark Bagley & Richard Isanove did the cover art. The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man continues with Spidey taking on the challenge of Callix & Cyra, the twins. Phil Coulson makes a guest appearance, which is not the best of things considering he is now the Infinity Stone Death Stone guardian.

Uncanny X-Men #8. “Finale.” Written by Gail Simone and art by Javier Garrón. Cover art was by David Marquez & Matthew Wilson. The crossover with X-Men finishes up in this issue as the two X-teams face off again over what they should do with Xavier. The issue continued to tease Inmate X, who is apparently not Xavier as I thought.

New Champions #1. Written by Steve Foxe and art by Ivan Fiorelli with Ig Guara. Cover art was done by Gleb Melnikov & Edgar Delgado. A new group of young heroes form under the name New Champions and they kick off their first issue. Some of these characters were from the recent Spider Woman run and they are an intriguing group. I do enjoy young heroes and I liked previous versions of Champions so I hope this will be a fun book.

All-New Venom #2. Written by Al Ewing and art by Carlos Gomez. Adam Kubert & Laura Martin did the cover art. The mystery of the identity of the all-new Venom deepens this issue as they seemingly eliminated Luke Cage as a possibility. I am not clear on how they did it, but Dylan Brock stated it at the end of the issue, so I guess that is meant to be the case. Luke Cage was one of my favorites to make the new Venom, but now I am not sure. I can’t see Robbie or Madame Masque being the new Venom, but Rick Jones feels too obvious. I am curious where this is headed.

Return of the Living Dead #1. Written by S.A. Check and James Kuhoric and art by Andrea Arcari. Cover art by Mark Spears (Gold Medalist). When a toxic gas is accidently released at Peddler’s Point, the reaction of nearby people seem a touch ghoulish. How do you survive a new outbreak of zombies out for brains? The new book from American Mythology Productions is hot, big reason is because of the Mark Spears cover.

Marley’s Ghost Graphic Novel. Based on the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, this graphic novel came about after nine pages of an adaptation done by legendary Harvey Kurtzman was found. The adaptation was expanded upon by Josh O’Neill and Shannon Wheeler with illustrations by Gideon Kendall. It is a beautiful and faithful adaptation of Dickens’ classic from Ablaze.

Transformers #16. Written by Daniel Warren Johnson and art by Jorge Corona. Cover art was by Daniel Warren Johnson & Mike Spicer. The Autobots and Decepticons fight on both on earth and on Cybertron, but just wait… he’s coming! It is just a matter of time before the big man himself, Megatron, finds his way back.

Sentinels #4. “We Assembled Him in the Kitchen.” Written by Alex Paknadel and art by Justin Mason. Justin Mason & Federico Blee did the cover art. This story centered around the character of Justin Seyfert, a young boy who was able to control a Sentinel. This character was around back in the days of the Avengers Academy and I always liked him. His death in Avengers Arena saddened me and this fate made it all the worse.

The Blood Brothers Mother #3. Written by Brian Azzarello and art and cover art by Eduardo Risso. It has been awhile since the second issue of this DSTLRY series came out. In fact, looking at CLZ, issue two was released in the first week of September. I love these DSTLRY books but the time between release really make it difficult to keep the story in my head. This Western tale was enjoyable, but a closer release schedule would help me considerably.

Wolverine #5. “The Call of the Adamantine” Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Martin Coccolo. Martin Coccolo and Bryan Valenza did the cover art. This new story involving Wolverine and other characters with adamantium in them is off to a very interesting start. I am also happy that our new Wendigo, aka Leonard, is still very much involved. I love the new Wendigo so here is to more with him.

Blood Hunters #5. Written by Erica Schultz and penciled by Chris Campana & Robert Gill. The team up to rescue Dagger came to an end this issue with the Blood Hunters heading in their own ways. It was nice to see Cloak make his triumphant return to the side of Dagger in this issue. I have been a fan of Cloak & Dagger since their debut way back in the pages of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man.

Absolute Batman #4. “The 200″ Part Four. Written by Scott Snyder with art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta. Cover art was by Nick Dragotta & Frank Martin. We get some flashbacks to a young Bruce Wayne as he was starting to become whom he is. This Batman has been very fascinating as he is different yet similar to the Batman we know.

Namor #6. “The Wyrd of the Waves” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Paul Davidson & Alex Lins. Cover art was by Alexander Lozano. Namor battles himself, literally, as he continues to move toward reclaiming the throne of Atlantis. Meanwhile, the kings of the sea are all preparing for all out war.

What If Galactus Transformed Gambit #1. Written by Josh Trujillo and art by Manuel Garcia. Ron Lim & Israel Silva did the cover art. This was a much better issue of “What If Galactus Transformed…” than last issue was. This one felt like a complete story as the last one did not. Even better yet… this issue marked an appearance by Uatu the Watcher! He has been sorely missing from these special What If books and I was ecstatic that he was included here. Uatu should be in every What If book, period.

What If Mickey and Friends Became the Fantastic Four #1. “The Fantastic Four vs. Mole Pete.” Written by Riccardo Secchi (plot by Steve Behling) and art by Lorenzo Pastovicchio. Cover D variant art was done by Skottie Young. For example, the Watcher is not in this What If book, but why couldn’t he be here? I would love it if the Watcher was here and maybe even played by a Disney character.

Geiger #10. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Gary Frank. Cover art was done by Gary Frank (Silver Medalist). Mister Geiger is in bad shape and he is losing control of his powers. Is he a danger to everyone? Can Junkyard Joe help Geiger at all? Crossovers are happening in the Ghost Machine imprint.

NYX #7. Written by Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly with art by Enid Balan. Cover art was done by Sara Pichelli & Federico Blee. Synch vs. Prodigy… but not to the death as the cover seems to indicate. There is also problems forming for Ms. Marvel as some of the other mutants around are getting after her for keeping a secret identity. Is this leading to Kamala Khan revealing her true self soon? Feels like that.

Daredevil: Unleash Hell: Red Band #1. Written by Erica Schultz and art by Valentina Pinti and Jose Luis. Elektra battles to protect Hell’s Kitchen while Muse is finding a way of getting his spirit out of Hell and possess another disgruntled artist. With Muse scheduled to be one of the main villains in the MCU upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again, it was time to bring him back in the Marvel Comics Universe.

The Lucky Devils #1. “First Circle: Limbo.” Written by Charles Soule and art and cover by Ryan Browne. It is a new, fun series from the creative team that brought us Eight Billion Genies. The Lucky Devils has the same flair, the same feel to it as that series. The Little Devils themselves are a very cool character design and I am excited to see where this story goes. It should be wild.

Green Hornet/Miss Fury #1. Written by Alex Segura & Henry Barajas and art by Federico Sorressa. Cover art by Francesco Francavilla. Dynamite Comics has been on a huge roll lately with their adaptations of older, classic characters and this time they are taking the Green Hornet and Miss Fury, teaming them up in their own book. I loved the noir feel of this book and the way they brought these characters into the present day of comic book presentation. Another big win for Dynamite.

Parliament of Rooks #2. “Summer” Written by Abigail Jill Harding with Richard Starkings and art and cover art by Abigail Jill Harding (Bronze Medalist). The love story hiding in a horror story finds its footing as this book moves on. The town is getting more and more scared over the monster they believe is loose but Princess Seraphina and Darius are still meeting in secrecy. This is dark and beautiful, another solid book from Ablaze comics.

Ultimate Black Panther #12. Written by Bryan Hill and art by Stefano Caselli. Stefano Caselli & David Curiel did the cover art. It is the face off between Black Panther and Moon Knight of the ultimate universe, but will T’Challa lose himself in this final showdown? Not if some guests at the end of the book have anything to say about it.

Batman: Dark Patterns #2. “We are the Wounded.” Written by Dan Watters and art and cover art by Hayden Sherman. Batman is investigating the Wound Man, and the twist of this issue is quite well done. This feels like an older version of Batman and I really have enjoyed the book so far.

Because of the shipping issues that has been causing problems with the new comics over the last several weeks, I am back for the second EYG Comic Cavalcade of the week. It was a nice day today of just reading the books I picked up from Comic World on Friday.

It is mostly Marvel and DC this time, although there are a couple of other companies represented this post.

Books this week:

Sam Wilson, Captain America #1. “Better Angels” Part 1. Written by Greg Pak & Evan Narcisse. Art is done by Eder Messias with Valentine De Landro. Taurin Clarke did the cover art. A new Sam Wilson book opened up with a big cookout featuring Sam and a bunch of the black Marvel super heroes. It was a birthday party for Isaiah Bradley. It gets interrupted by vampires and then by Red Hulk.

The Spectacular Spider-Men #11. “Spider-What?” Written by Greg Weisman and art by Andres Genolet & Von Randal. Emilio Laiso & Edgar Delgado did the cover art. This was a weird issue with Peter and Miles getting shrunk down and having to face the Seelie Court. The new hero Elementary’s heart is judged. We also meet Cobweb. Strange book this month.

When I Lay My Vengeance Upon Thee #1. Written by Gus Moreno and illustrated by Jakub Rebelka. One of the few independent books this week is from Boom! Studios and it is about a disgraced father named Manuel Barrera who is sent to learn the ability of the exorcism, and the weirdness that comes with it. I like the look of this comic as it is very dark and different than most other books out there.

Saga #71. Written by Brian K. Vaughn and art and cover art by Fiona Staples (Silver Medalist). Saga continues with the growing problems faced by Hazel as she tries to convince Emesis that they were still friends. Saga is constantly an entertaining book and there are things that happen that you never expect to happen. There is some excellent storytelling going on with this series.

Avengers #22. “The Casino Job” Part 1. Written by Jed MacKay and art by Farid Karami. Cover art was by Valero Schiti & Federico Blee. The Avengers head into space to attempt to steal the data on the “Missing Moment” which is what Kang has been searching for for a long time. However, it seems that their attempted theft was spoiled by another thief getting to the data before they could… Black Cat! Of course, you knew that if you happened to look at the cover…

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #28. “Webs of Wakanda Part Two” Written by Cody Ziglar and art by Danielle Di Nicuolo. Cover C variant art was done by Iban Coello (Gold Medalist). Miles is inside Wakanda and he must face off with Bast in a chance to cure the vampirism that has taken over the hero. It looked as if there is something unexpected that may block his path.

Werewolf by Night Red Band #6. Written by Jason Loo and art by Ton Lima. E.M. Gist did the cover art. Jack and Elsa Bloodstone are searching for a silver werewolf in an attempt to stop its massacring of people, much like Jack has been doing. The events do not leave Jack or Elsa in good shape and Lilith is here with her own motivations.

The Ultimates #8. Written by Deniz Camp with art by Juan Frigeri. Cover art was done by Dike Ruan & Neeraj J. Menon. The ultimate version of the Guardians of the Galaxy is here hoping to rescue America Chavez. Why? They have a long and futuristic story to share. I do like the formation of this new version of the Guardians and I hope they can make a return in the future.

Daredevil #17. “Introductory Rites Part Seventeen” Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Aaron Kuder. Cover art by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna and Richard Isanove. The cover has Daredevil squaring off with Bullseye, but that does not happen inside this book. Instead DD is trying to face off with the demons out there possessing people and causing him grief. DD finds out that Matt Murdock still has his lawyer license, conveniently so he can go into court to face off with possessed Foggy Nelson.

X-Factor #6. “Traitors” Written by Mark Russell and art by Bob Quinn. Cover art was done by Greg Land & Frank D’Armata. Havok and the remainder of X-Force grieve the loss of their teammate Oskar from last issue. This causes trouble among the people who are in charge. X-Factor does not feel like it has much longer in this form.

Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #9. “Haunted” Part 9. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Paolo Villanelli. Mark Brooks did the cover art. Gwen is in all kinds of trouble, facing her past choices in her own mind. Meanwhile, Black Tarantula is out working on stopping Mister Fear.

What If Galactus Transformed the Hulk #1. Written by Mat Groom and art by Lan Medina. Ron Lim & Israel Silva did the cover art. I really liked the story that we got of Galactus taking the Hulk and making him his new herald. The problem was, this book ended at a spot where the story felt like it was just getting ready to get to the climax. This is a one-shot so I do not think we will be getting a resolution to the story and that makes me feel like it shorted me a finale.

Justice League: The Atom Project #1. “Atomic Collision.” Written by Ryan Parrott and John Ridley with art by Mike Perkins. Cover art by Mike Perkins & Adriano Lucas. My friend Todd told me this was a one-shot, but he must be wrong about that. This included a couple of Atoms and Captain Atom trying to fix some of the wayward powers in the DC Universe. If this is a one-shot, then the story leaves off much like this month’s What If.

Two-Face #2. “The Deadly Divorce” Written by Christian Ward and art by Fabio Veras. Cover art was done by Baldemar Rivas. This mini series featuring Harvey Dent is very fascinating, especially since it seems as one of the big antagonists of the series is inside Harvey’s own mind prison. It is a cool flip on the courtroom story.

Absolute Superman #3. “Boy from the Purple Prairie.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Rafa Sandoval. Cover art was done by Rafa Sandoval & Ulises Arreola (Bronze Medalist). We get a full issue on Krypton, as we are seeing how the planet would eventually be destroyed. It is more than just that though as the issue is exploring a level of class among the Kryptonians and it does take the familiar story of the planet’s death and shake it up a bit. Krypto is here too.

Deadpool & Wolverine #1. “The Secret Lives.” Written by Benjamin Pearcy and art by Joshua Cassara. Cover art was done by Joshua Cassara & GURU-eFX. I liked this issue quite a bit because it takes Deadpool and does something different with him and sticking Wolverine in the story worked very well. It is not just a book that capitalizes from the movie. It has its own story to tell.

Happy New Year. 2025 is here and we kick off the first EYG Comic Cavalcade of the new year. Of course, that meant that the delivery of new books tis still goobered up as it has been for the last several weeks.

I went up on New Year’s Day to Comic World with the knowledge that there would not be any books, but I had some coming from Todd and it was going to be worth it.

I was going to make the trip worthwhile as I picked up some other books at Comic World. With them lacking the books this week, I picked up these books to help even if it is just a little help. I grabbed some graphic novels off the shelf. One was Road Rage and the other was Rain. I have not gotten to either of those, but I wanted to touch on them here.

Books this week:

30 Days of Night: Spreading the Disease #1-5. Written by Dan Wickline and art by Tony Sandoval. All five of my issues were cover B variants done by Nat Jones. This series from IDW and it featured a lot of vampires and it provided a very dark and scary feel to it.

Dark Days #1-6. Written by Steve Niles and Ben Templeton. More vampires from the same studio. I actually started reading the first issue of this series and realized that it came after the 30 Days of Night. So I stopped and went to the 30 Days of Night to read first. It was not a direct sequel, but it felt in the same world. Very dark and creepy art.

Spectregraph #4. Written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Christian Ward. Cover B art by Ian Bertram. This is the wrap up of the DSTLRY book from James Tynion IV. The house is filled with ghosts and can the two females escape their fate? There is a twist at the end of the book that is a touch confusing, but I do enjoy the creativity of it all.

Groo the Wanderer #95, #112. Written, illustrated and cover art by Sergio Aragones. Picked these two up on eBay and they got here really fast. I mean… I ordered these on Monday or Tuesday this week and they arrived on Thursday. That is really amazing.

Sex Criminals trade paperback. This collects the first five issues of the Sex Criminals series from Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. This was a wild and sexy issue. Oh, and dirty. So very dirty. It was a wonderful group of issues. I loved this and went to eBay to pick up the complete series.

Motherfu*kin’ Monsters #1. Written by J. Holtham and artist and cover art by Michael Lee Harris. This is an issue from Image’s The Horizon Project, a group of one shot issues that featured protagonists from a marginalized background set in a popular genre. The books called itself the Evil Dead for blerds. I was not a big fan of this book. The art was too cartoonish for my tastes.

Missing on the Moon #1. Created by Cory Crater and art by Damian Couceiro. Cover art by Damian Couceiro with Dee Cunniffe. Mad Cave has a new book featuring a new world that takes place on the moon. It was interesting and had a lot of sci-fi elements that were cool.

Hornsby & Halo #2. The storytellers of this book are Peter J. Tomasi & Peter Snejbjerg. Peter Snejbjerg did the cover art. Zack and Rose show off their angel and demon forms as this books starts to pick up some momentum.

G.I. Joe #2. Written by Joshua Williamson and art and cover art by Tom Reilly. G.I. Joe and Cobra are meeting up for the first time and terrible things are happening. The Energon Universe has become huge for Image and it brings Cobra Commander back to the front. I have been waiting for the second issue for a few weeks and this was worth the wait.

The Rocketfellers #2. Written by Peter J. Tomasi and art and cover art by Francis Manapul. The Ghost Machine series sees the Rocketfeller family trying to find a Christmas tree. Who thought that this would be major issue. Yet, I guess with the Rocketfellers, anything could happen.

Dust to Dust #1. Written by JG Jones and Phil Bram and art and cover art by JG Jones. This is a beautiful new series, featuring a Western story set in the thirties. The new sheriff arrived on a horse and sets up an exciting story… and a huge dust storm is on its way. I loved the art and the coloring of this book.

Groo: Minstrel Melodies #3-4. Written by Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier and illustrated and cover art by Sergio Aragones. The Minstrel continues to tell stories of Groo’s misadventures. I did enjoy the one where Groo came across a Groo-look-a-like. The final two issues of this new Dark Horse mini series.

Well, here is the last EYG Comic Cavalcade for 2024. It was a year where my collection really took off. It got organized, rebagged and reboarded, and listed on CLZ. The Comic Cavalcade was right there for the entire thing, recording the books that I added to my collection.

Before I forget, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that 2025 is the best year yet. As for the Comic Cavalcade, I plan to continue to do this on a weekly basis as new comics continue to be released and as long as eBay keeps up the source for back issues.

Books this week:

X-Men #9. “Raid on Graymalkin” Part 3. Written by Jed Mackay and penciled by Federico Vicentini & Ryan Stegman. Cover art by Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, and Marte Gracia (Bronze Medalist). The crossover between X-Men and Uncanny X-Men continues as the two teams fight with one another at Graymalkin, the prison for mutants that was once the X-Mansion. The shadow off Charles Xavier is all over the place….

Exceptional X-Men #4. Written by Eve L. Ewing and art by Carmen Carnero. Cover art was by Carnero & Nolan Woodward. Iceman is here as the book keeps looking at Kitty Pryde and her past issues with her teammates and her own actions while trying to do something good.

Hellhunters #1. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and art by Adam Gorham. Jonas Scharf & Alex Guimarães. World War II Ghost Rider teams up with Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos for some World War II action.

Iron Man #3. “Organized Crime.” Written by Spencer Ackerman and art by Julius Ohta with Jethro Morales. Tony Stark uses his clever mind to finish off the Stark takeover attempt by AIM and Roxxon. I am glad that this arc does not seem to be moving forward as we just had a corporate takeover storyline recently. Guest starring the demon Belasco.

West Coast Avengers #2. Written by Gerry Duggan and art by Danny Kim. Ben Harvey did the art for the cover. Apparently, the Ultron we saw at the end of the first issue was not the same Ultron who is a member of the West Coast Avengers. That was a bit of a surprise.

Amazing Spider-Man #64. “King of Pain” Written by Justina Ireland and art by Gleb Melnikov. Ed McGuinness & Marco Menyz did the cover art. The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man marches on as Peter has to face off with one of the Twins. Peter is also attempting to find a way to win against some of these Scions without actually dying. I like this so far as the villains seem to be underestimating Spidey and are learning their lessons. You don’t see that much any more and it feels a touch old school.

Redcoat #8. Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch are the creators and cover B art was done by Brad Walker (Gold Medalist). A stand alone issue of the Redcoat that sees Simon take on a family of serial killers in 1873. The Northerner returned at the very end to set up the new story arc for 2025.

Metamorpho #1. “Mister 3, the Triple-State Man” Written by Al Ewing and art by Steve Lieber. Steve Lieber & Lee Loughridge did the cover art. This was a lot of fun. It had a very old school type flavor to the issue, perhaps because of the art stylings of Steve Lieber. It definitely feels as if they are trying to build nostalgia for the character prior to his appearance in the 2025 Superman movie. I have always liked Metamorpho-Meta-morph-o (there is an allusion for ya) and this is an enjoyable book. It does worry me that I am buying more and more DC books. I am concerned that I already buy more books a month than in any time in my life, and I shouldn’t be adding more DC to the list.

Black Canary: Best of the Best #2. “Round Two” Written by Tom King and art and cover art by Ryan Sook. My point about the DC books. There are a bunch now. And Black Canary is awesome. I love this story as they intersperse the flashback of Dinah as a younger girl with the fights she is having with lady Shiva. I do love Tom King as a writer and Metamorpho was written by another favorite of mine, Al Ewing. Maybe it is the writing talent that has attracted me to DC. This one is great so far.

Justice League Unlimited #2. Written by Mark Waid and art and cover art by Dan Mora. Another DC book and another great writer in Mark Waid. When I was young, I was a fan of the JLA, but I moved away from it, being more of a Marvel stan. I do like the idea of the Justice League being all the heroes around and I did like seeing Indiana Jones on page 5. He turned out to be Dr. Richard Occult, but that first shot of him was Indy all the way. I did like the mystery of what was happening to J’onn J’ones as well. Oh DC… what are you doing to me?

Absolute Wonder Woman #3. “The Last Amazon Part 3” Written by Kelly Thompson and art by Hayden Sherman. Cover art by Hayden Sherman & Jordie Bellaire (Silver Medalist). Yet another DC book, but this one is the Absolute line. Diana is very intriguing in this new take on her and I have been enjoying these new variations on the Trinity so far. Kelly Thompson is yet another awesome writer working with DC. Can’t argue with quality.

Uncanny Valley #7. Written by Tony Fleecs and art and cover art by Dave Wachter. Finally out of DC and into Boom! Studios. Oliver finds himself in a new and strange world. The world of his grandfather, Pecos Peet. Meanwhile his mom and Peet are in search for him. Uncanny Valley has been a consistently engaging book with one of the most creative ideas in a long time.

Blade Red Band #3. Written by Bryan Hill and art by Federica Mancin & C.F. Villa. C.F. Villa and Federico Blee did the cover art. As Blade is in search of Pontius, he has to question the loyalty of his current partner and vampire hunter Elena. This has been a very fascinating book full of betrayals and uncertainty. I’m not sure it needs the red band logo, but it has been a good story so far.

Sam and Twitch Case Files #9. Script by Todd McFarlane & Jordan Barel with art by Thomas Nachlik. Thaddeus Robeck did the cover art. A new story arc kicks off with Sam and Twitch as Twitch is in pursuit of a suspect and he shoots him. He was aiming for his shoulder, but the bullet went through his head/eye, killing him. I loved this issue because, despite how normal this felt, there is more under the surface. Good start for the next story arc.

Timeslide #1. Written by Steve Foxe and art by Ivan Fiorelli. Kael Ngu did the cover art. Cable and Bishop team up to go through time to try and prevent time from fraying. It seemed as if this book was used to show hints at what is coming in the future of Marvel Comics. It went as far as to provide a checklist about halfway through including titles of upcoming events. How many actually happen will be intriguing. Meanwhile, this book was okay, but nothing to write home about.

Kidpool/Spider-Boy#1. Written by Christopher Yost and penciled by Nathan Stockman, Jed Dougherty & Chris Campana. Humberto Ramos & Edgar Delgado did the cover art. Spider-Boy faces his most dangerous and annoying threat yet… a young, female Deadpool variant who likes him. But does she like him like him? Might they hold hands? Or will their relationship be broken up by Stegron?

Mystique #3. “Sentinels” Written, drawn and cover art by Declan Shalvey. This is a different POV from Sentinels#3 where we think we see them fighting Magneto. Thanks to this issue, we know it is not Magneto that the Sentinels are fighting. It is Mystique. But how does she have the magnetism of Magneto? More questions here, and a lot of mutant fun.

Ultimate Black Panther #11. Written by Bryan Hill and guest artist Carlos Nieto. Cover art was by Stefano Caselli & David Curiel. This was actually my favorite issue of Ultimate Black Panther since the very beginning of the series. I liked how they prepared to set up the one on one battle between T’Challa and the Ultimate Moon Knight, and how all of T’Challa’s allies and friends wanted to keep him from it. Builds some solid stakes and tension for the throwdown next issue (I assume).

Geiger #9. Written by Geoff Johns and art by Paul Pelletier and Gary Frank. Cover art was by Gary Frank & Brad Anderson. Mr. Geiger turned on Nate as he lost control of himself. If not for Barney, things would have been very problematic. Geiger wants to change. The most intriguing part of this issue was the prologue where we see Simon Pure from Redcoat, Junkyard Joe, and what looked like the Northerner. Is it the Ghost Machine crossover we have been waiting for?

Spider-Boy #14. “Know Your Enemy” Written by Dan Slott and art by Paco Medina & Humberto Ramos. Cover art by Paco Medina & Edgar Delgado. The Dragon’s Challenge tournament begins with Daredevil and Spider-Boy teaming up to try and prevent Bullseye & Spider-Girl from winning. We get a Spider-Girl origin and Hulkette is hanging around until Spider-Boy loses so she can get her own revenge.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #3. “Pathfinder” Written by Jed MacKay and art by Domenico Carbone. Davide Paratore did the cover art. The Midnight Mission is killed in this issue. What? The house died? This sends Moon Knight into an anger, but it feels very odd having killed off the Midnight Mission. Not sure why this was done as it felt like a great setting. I guess we’ll have to see.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #1. Written by Frank Tieri and art by Michael Sta. Maria. Adam Kubert and Laura Martin did the cover art. A flashback story about Sabretooth and the Ravencroft asylum. Bloody and violent, this is an interesting mini series.

Well, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. We were able to pick up all of the books from Comic World this week thanks to Todd and Pat getting the books out when the books came in late. It’s another big week of books.

Books this week:

X-Men: Magneto- Testament #1-5. Written by Greg Pak and art by Carmine Di Giandomenico. I saw an interview with Greg Pak on YouTube’s Comic Book Club and they spoke about this mini-series from 2008. It told the story of young Magneto from the concentration camps. It is a horrible situation with a beautiful story and art. It is a masterpiece of a mini series.

Hornsby & Halo #1. Storytellers Peter J. Tomasi and Peter Snejbjerg. An interesting new series from the Ghost Machine imprint. One was an angel child and one was a devil child. They were placed in homes with humans, the angel in a tougher family , the devil with a loving, caring family. This is an intriguing new series that seems like a lot of fun, yet another good series from Ghost Machine.

Namor #5. “The Orphan on the Throne.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Paul Davidson & Alex Lins. Alexander Lozano did the cover art. Namor continues to learn lessons about his war nature with both flashbacks and current day problems.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5. “The Law of the Foot” Written by Jason Aaron and penciled by Darick Robertson. Cover art by Javier Fernandez. This new TMNT series introduces us to Casey Jones and Hieronymus Hale. This issue focuses on these two characters and the final panel in this issue was shocking. This continues to be one of the best new books of the year.

Immortal Thor #18. “To Be Continued” Written by Al Ewing and art by Jan Bazaldua. Alex Ross did the cover art. Thor tries to reclaim his reputation on earth by leading his son, the Enchantress and Lady Sif to face off with Mister Hyde, Cobra, Grey Gargoyle and the Radioactive Man.

Hellverine #1. Written by Benjamin Percy and art by Raffaele Ienco. Kendrick “Kunkka” Lim did the cover art. I am not a big fan of this character. It just feels like a rip off. I will say that I thought this story was really better than I thought it would be. I do not think that I will be picking this one up, but it was better than I thought.

Juvenile #1. Written, illustrated and cover art by Jesus Orellana. I really enjoyed this new Image Comics book. They do a great job of building this new world and what is happening as well as introducing the main characters of these young people taking these drugs. This is an excellent new book.

Tin Can Society #4. Written by Peter Warren and art by Francesco Mobili. Cover art by Francesco Mobili & Chris Chuckry. The mystery continues to chug along. I will say that I found this issue to be the weakest so far, so I hope it reclaims some of the strength of the previous books.

FML #1-2. Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and art by David Lopez. This Dark Horse book is really creative and fascinating. A group of new young characters who are metal kids who wind up facing with a lot of bizarre threats. These are some of the fascinating new characters and I enjoyed all of their introductions.

Warm Fusion #1. Written by Scott Hoffman and art and cover art by Alberto Ponticelli. Warm Fusion is the new noir, sci-fi thriller from DSTLRY. Jarrod Hannover is the detective investigating a serial killer out there killing hookers and escorts in a world that “has been devastated by crime, ongoing storms, radiation from a terrorist incident in Times Square and the genetic mutations caused by a life-saving ‘cure‘”

Spectregraph #1-3. Written by James Tynion IV and art by Christian Ward. Some of these DSTLRY books can be hard to find. When I saw that Spectregraph#4 was coming out soon, I went to eBay and ordered the first three. These were great. Of course, I am a big fan of James Tynion IV and this is yet another great story. A mysterious house that has attracted a group of wealthy men who want to buy it leads to the realtor getting trapped inside. This is a really great story and I can’t wait to see the fourth and final issue of the series.

Captain America #16. “End at the Beginning.” Written by J. Michael Straczynski and art by Carlos Magno. Taurin Clarke did the cover art. The Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man team up comes to an end in what seems to be the final issue of this creative team’s run. I am not sure if this is the last Captain America book for awhile. They advertise the new Sam Wilson Captain America book at the end of the issue. I hope we still have a Steve Rogers book to enjoy too.

Challengers of the Unknown #1. “The Secret Life of Ace Morgan.” Written by Christopher Cantwell and art by Sean Izarkse. Cover art was by Mike Dedoroto Jr. and Jao Candla. The Challengers of the Unknown are part of the new Justice League as the do-it-all crew among the Watchtower. There is an interesting mystery going on.

Daredevil #16. “Introductory Rites” Part Sixteen. Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Aaron Kuder. Cover art by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, and Richard Isanove. Daredevil is out having problems with the demons still… now with the next sin taking over Foggy. Daredevil is going through it.

Fantastic Four #27. “Way, Shape or Form.” Written by Ryan North and art by Steven Cummings. Joshua Cassara & Dean White did the cover art. Nicki Masters-Grimm is the heart of this books as the Grimm kids take on the Mole Man. Ryan North FF books have been really great and this book can live an issue with the kids and a limited amount of the actual FF.

Spectacular Spider-Men #10. “Elementary, My Dear Spider-Men…” Written by Greg Weisman and art by Andres Genolet & Emilio Laiso. Peter and Miles fight the two Electros, but we focus on the new hero, Elementary.

Ultimate Spider-Man #12. Written by Jonathan Hickman and art by Marco Checchetto. Checchetto & Matthew Wilson did the cover art. Hey, the entire issue is a Christmas party at Peter & Mary Jane’s place. I find this to be a ballsy move for a book to be mostly just a dinner party. However, there is a surprise at the end that sets us up for more going forward (ahem…Kraven?).

TVA #1. Written by Katharyn Blair and art by Pere Perez. Cover art by Pepe Larraz & Marte Gracia. We get a lot of fun in this new book based on the TVA from the MCU Loki TV series. We get O.B., Mobius, B-15. They blend in some awesome multiverse characters such as Ghost Spider, Captain Carter, and a Gambit. By the way, Miss Minutes! It does seem weird that the story of Loki seems to be canon with this book, but I’m okay with that. I love these characters from Loki and I hope they turn out well.

Parliament of Rooks #1. “Spring.” Written by Abigail Jill Harding with Richard Starkings and art and cover art by Abigail Jill Harding (Silver Medalist). This was a great new horror book and the black and white section of this book is beautiful. I found this one was wonderful.

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #2. “The Case of the Runaway of the Ring” Written by Alex Segura and art by Cian Tormey. Tormey & Fajardo Jr. did the cover art. So much trouble on the Watchtower and Renee’s Question is at the center of it all.

Absolute Batman #3. “The 200 Part Three” Written by Scott Snyder and art by Nick Dragotta. Dragotta & Frank Martin did the cover art. Batman and Alfred are spending some time seeing if they want to connect. It looks like Black Mask is here and he is a total bad ass.

Standstill #5. Story by Lee Loughridge and art Alex Riegel. Cover art by Andrew Robinson. Colin and Ryker have a bunch of conflicts in this issue as they become a major trouble. I still love the way that they design this book with large panels and solid art work.

In Bloom #1. Written by Michael W. Conrad and art by John J. Pearson with art assists from Lola Bonato. John J. Pearson did the cover art. Another books that does a great job of setting up the new world that the book exists in. The weird Bloom virus being a positive thing was not what I expected as I first thought this would be a series like Sleeping Beauties, but it feels as if it will be more like Soylent Green. I’m in!

Jonny Quest #5. Written by Joe Casey and art by Sebastian Piriz. Chad Hardin did the cover art. Jonny’s trip into his future comes to a close here with a successful mission. They are back in 1964, ready to set up a new arc after a few month break. Jonny Quest was never my jam as a cartoon, but I did enjoy this first storyline so we will see if Dynamite can keep up the roll they seem to be on.

Plastic Man No More #4. Written by Christopher Cantwell and art by Alex Lims. Cover art by Alex Lims & Marcelo Maiolo (Bronze Medalist). I was actually kind of down on this conclusion to a series that I have enjoyed since issue one. Honestly, I was not a fan of the way the story came to an end and especially with the very last page of the book. Some of the Plastic Man body horror stuff took it to a level that I was not a fan of either. Kind of a disappointment as a final issue.

The Masked Macher #4. Written by David A. Goodman and art by Alex Andres. Another finale of a book that I did not love. The main reason for that was it is clearly left off on a cliffhanger and I am unsure if there will be more of this book in the future. I do love the talking bear. I will keep my judgment in check for now to see if this story actually does continue some day.

Psylocke #2. “Ladykiller” Written by Alyssa Wong and art by Vincenzo Carratù. Cover art was by Mahmud Asrar and Matthew Wilson. Psylocke heads off to try and track down a group of kidnapped mutant children and she finds some horror in her investigation. Psylocke has been decent so far in this series and the end of the issue sets up a solid path forward.

Sentinels #3. “Mud and Metal Mixing Good.” Written by Alex Paknadel and art by Justin Mason. Mason & Federico Blee did the cover art. The Sentinel team found themselves in conflict with Magneto. They do not fare well. However, something strange is going on as this did not seem to be the current Magneto that we know of in X-Men. This was a Magneto full of power. What is going on?

Deadpool #9. Written by Cody Ziglar and Alexis Quasarano and art by Andrea Di Vito. Taurin Clarke does the cover art. Ellie and Princess, with the Taskmaster, finally found a way to bring back Deadpool (Wade Wilson) to life and we get the Deadpool & daughter reunion.

Napalm Lullaby #7. Written by Rick Remender and art and cover art by Bengal. The book returns form hiatus with a weird and bizarre world that did not feel anything like what I remembered of the book when it ended. I found it engaging and I liked the answers at the end of the issue.

Big Guns Stupid Rednecks #2. Written by Austin Allen Hamblin and illustrated by Mariana Meira. Scott Twells did the cover B art. What do you get when you combine the world of the WWE, and Gladiator combat with Mojoworld? Big Guns Stupid Rednecks is the right answer. This is a wild comic with a bizarre set up but it is fun so far. Looks like we will be getting a brother vs. brother rematch soon.

Knights vs. Samurai #3. Written by David Dastmalchian and art by Fede Mele. Mirko Colak did the art. This issue really had me thinking that this was a combination of Shogun and House of the Dragon. I find the translation to be intriguing and a nice addition to this book.

The New Gods #1. “The Falling Sky Part 1” Written by Ram V and art by Jorge Fornés and Francesco Segala. Cover art was by Nimit Malavia. This was an interesting new DC book but I just wonder why Thor appears on this DC book’s cover. Todd was yelling at me when I asked about it being Thor, but there is simply no doubt that that character on the cover looks exactly like Thor and that no character looking like Thor appeared in the book. I looked.

Comics were delayed again this week. I did not expect them to be in on Friday so I had decided that I would go to Kraven the Hunter at a 4:20 PM show. Todd gave me a call as I was on the way to the movie with the news that the books had arrived Friday after all. I couldn’t turn around and head to Dubuque as I was on the way to the Quad Cities.

However, Saturday was going to bring us some icy weather and I was not sure when I could get to the shop. I made a decision. After I would get done with Kraven, I would leave Cinemark and drive to Comic World to get the comics that night. I left the theater at about 6:47 PM and wound up at Comic World before 8 PM. I made good time, with only a minimal amount of speeding.

As I said, there was ice coming today and I had nowhere I planned to go in the morning and I was able to sit down and read the comics. It was a nice morning and I made it through the week’s books.

Here are this week’s books:

Grommets #3-6. I picked up these books from eBay and I have really enjoyed the series. It took a darker turn as our young skateboarding heroes wound up at a party that got out of control. The series has taken time to dive into these kids feeling and desires and I have found it to be very compelling so far. There is only one more issue to go and I am excited to finish this series off.

Space Ghost #8. Written by David Pepose and art by Jonathan Lau. Cover B art was by Jae Lee & June Chung. General Metallus is here, with his Thanos-like plans bringing a terrible memory back to Space Ghost. Sadly, Space Ghost got his butt handed to him.

Storm #3. “Impending Doom” Written by Murewa Ayodele and art by Lucas Werneck. Cover art was by Mateus Manhanini. Storm is dying, but Doctor Voodoo helps her with some magic. But magic has a cost and she cannot use her powers for seven days. So she decides to sleep with Wolverine. Um… oh, yeah, and Dr. Doom comes calling.

Dazzler #4. “Homecoming” Written by Jason Loo and art by Rafael Loureiro. Cover art was by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Dazzler’s world tour is coming to an end with a concert in New York City! We discover the person behind the sabotage of her shows before and guest stars NYX help her wrap thing up. This is the final issue of this Dazzler series which was fun, if lgithweight.

Batman: Dark Patterns #1. “We are the Wounded Part One.” Written by Dan Watters and art and cover art by Hayden Sherman. A new Batman series which tells a story from a past time in the Caped Crusader’s life. Alfred is still there and James Gordon was only a Lieutenant. It included a weird and wild villain that I had never seen before involved in some kind of serial killing. I am worried that I have been picking up more DC books than I have before. I already get a ton of comics a month. However, this issue was solid.

The Terminator #3. “Apocalypse Then: Part Two.” Written by Declan Shalvey and art by David O’Sullivan. Cover C art by Cat Staggs (Bronze Medalist). The story from Vietnam concludes as the Terminator chased Duggan across the land and even into a helicopter.

Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1. Written by Deniz Camp and art by Jonas Scharf. Cover art was done by Rafael Albuquerque. We follow Nick Fury and we meet the members of the Council. They all do not seem to have the best of intentions. There is a couple pages at the end of the book featuring a prologue of Ultimate Wolverine.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1. Written by Christos Gage and art by Eric Gapstur. Leonardo Romero did the cover art. This is the prequel series for the upcoming Disney + animated series of the web head. This is meant to be a very young, just gaining his powers Peter Parker. There were some differences to the origin, laid out here, that may alter the character.

Incredible Hulk#20. “Wolves of the Old World” Part One. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and art by Danny Earles. Cover art was done by Nic Klein. Werewolves are everywhere and Hulk and Charlie are having to deal with them. Jack Russell is here too.

The Infinity Watch #1. Written by Derek Landy and penciled by Ruairi Coleman. Cover art was by Salvador Larroca and GURU-eFX. The Infinity Stone Bearers come together to form their own team, but things do not go well immediately. I wonder if the shocking final page sets us up for what this series has up its sleeve. Love having Coulson in the book though.

Uncanny X-Men #7. “No Walls Can Hold Us” Written by Gail Simone and penciled by David Marquez & Edgar Salazar. Cover art by David Marquez & Matthew Wilson (Gold Medalist). Rogue’s team of X-Men are heading into Graymalkin after their two team members but Cyclops really wants them to hold off. What this lead to? That’s right… big mutant fight!

Laura Kinney: Wolverine #1. “All the Places You Will Go.” Written by Erica Schultz and art by Giada Belviso. Cover is the Variant Cover Logo issue. New series featuring Laura Kinney was a great start. I enjoyed this first issue with Laura. The issue does a fantastic job of giving us insight into the character of Laura and what drives her. This was a great start.

Amazing Spider-Man #63. “Tick Tick Tick.” Written by Justina Ireland and art by Gleb Melnikov. Cover art was by Ed McGuinness & Marcio Menyz. The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man rolls on as the constant fight as the Champion is getting to Peter Parker. He actually yelled at Aunt May. The Scions of Cyttorak have been watching him, trying to figure out what makes him tick.

The City Beneath Her Feet #1. Written by James Tynion IV and art and cover art by Elsa Charretier. This is a love story… as we are told at the very beginning in a fourth wall break… but not that kind of love story. This was a bizarre story that was quiet entertaining and unexpected. I am a big fan of James Tynion IV and the writing of this was great. Elsa Charretier’s work is very much similar to her work on Love Everlasting.

Scarlet Witch #7. Written by Steve Orlando and art by Lorenzo Tammetta. Cover art was done by Russell Dauterman (Silver Medalist). Wanda, Amaranth, Tommy and Billy go to New Salem to try and save the town from a curse. Turns out that there is a tie to Agatha Harkness in the town.

Minor Arcana #4. Written, illustrated and cover art by Jeff Lemire. Theresa takes her mom for her cancer appointment, and sparks fly. She then winds up back in the magical realm after doing another tarot card reading. She realizes that it is tied to her deceased grandpa. Mainor Arcana is a fascinating book and Jeff Lemire is always great in his creativity.

X-Factor #5. “Prisoners of the Fun Room” Written by Mark Russell and art by Bob Quinn. Cover art was by Greg land & Frank D’Armata. X-Factor has to fight off the terrorists led by Darkstar known as X-Term. This series has shown to be a very deadly one as another of the team winds up dead in this issue.

Phoenix #6. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Marco Renna. Yasmine Putri did the cover art. Phoenix teams up with Nova, but she is having a crisis of faith, doubting that her arrival in space was the right move to make. Oh, and Thanos.

Welcome back to the EYG Comic Cavalcade.

We are doing another Comic Cavalcade because in issue #127, I only had a handful of issues to do. I have covered the delivery issue with Comic World enough, but I received a call on Friday saying everything was in. I was very excited and went to buy it that night.

The books were Marvel and Independent and I had a light weekend of movies, so this gave me an opportunity to finish these up and do another post.

Thanks to Todd and Pat from Comic World for their work getting these available for selling. I am sure there would be stores that would just say they can wait until next week.

There was also the eBay update. I got Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #6 delivered to me the other day. I have just a handful of Peter Porker books remaining to pick up.

Books from this new order…and beyond:

Grommets #1-2. Written by Rick Remender and Brian Posehn. The art is done by Brett Parson. This was another eBay pick up. I had seen someone on Bluesky (love this new platform, btw) raving about this comic (sorry, I do not remember whom it was). I was curious about it so I picked up the issues on eBay. This is a very intriguing book, and very different than what I was expecting. Definitely skateboarding is vital to the story. I did like these characters, though I am not sure what I was expecting. I have more issues coming from eBay soon, so I do look forward to continuing with it.

Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction #1. Written by Ryan North and art by Javier Garrón. Javier Garrón & Edgar Delgado did the cover art. This one-shot was actually really enjoyable. Looking back, I see Ryan North as the writer, who I love from the recent FF run. I can see he can write Wolverine and Deadpool too. This was a hoot of an issue.

Wolverine #4. “Lost and Found“. Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Martin Coccolo. Martin Coccolo & Bryan Valenza did the cover art. Wolverine is working with the new Wendigo to try and help the young kid manage his curse. However, Constrictor gets in the way. And something weird is going on with the adamantium. I am a big fan of this new Wendigo and I hope it continues on.

Blade: Red Band #2. Written by Bryan Hill and art by C.F. Villa. Cover art was done by C.F. Villa and Federico Blee. Blade is trying to deal with his life post Blood Hunt and he is on a mission where he encounters Elena. Some good Blade action in this book (though I once again do not think this necessarily rises to the level of Red Band).

Werewolf by Night: Red Band #5. Written by Jason Loo and penciled by Sergio Davila. E.M. Gist did the cover art. Jack Russell has been cast out of the Savage land and he has come across the one and only Bruce Banner in a huge coincidence. Red Hood and his band probably does not want to make him angry because they won’t like it when he’s angry. I got a kick out of it though.

The Exorcism at 1600 Penn #2. Written by Hannah Rose May and art and cover art by Vanesa Del Ray (Bronze Medalist). The president of the United States’ daughter has a problem. She is sick (or is she?) and her brother believes it is his fault. What can he do about it and will his religious leaders believe him? I have enjoyed this series so far very much. I like the POV of the President involved in this story. It is different than what we are used to. Different is always epic.

All-New Venom #1. Written by Al Ewing and art by Carlos Gomez. Cover art (Gold foil) by Iban Coello (Silver Medalist). Cover A art by Adam Kubert. I really loved this new take on Venom. I have not read Venom in years, but this was intriguing. Who is the new Venom? Is it Madame Masque, Luke Cage, Rick Jones or Robbie Robertson? Weird group of suspects. I’m not sure if I have an inkling yet, but I do hope they do not just reveal it too soon. If I had to guess, at this point, I would guess Luke Cage. My fourth place is Madame Masque (which probably means it is her). Third is Robbie and second is Rick Jones, but that order can change at any point. I just think it is a fascinating idea to give the symbiote to the NY Mayor. We’ll see where it goes.

Red Before Black #3. Written by Stephanie Phillips and illustrated and cover art by Goran Sudžuka. Val and Leo are out on an adventure… well, that is after Val recovered. Leo thought she was dead. This series has a Thelma and Louise vibe to it… and Winston, a baby alligator. I hate alligators.

NYX #6. Written by Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly and penciled by Michael Shelfer. Cover art was done by Sara Pichelli & Federico Blee. Kamala and her friends are out on the town on their way to a Dazzler concert. She wanted a happy outing with her friends. Mojo had some different thoughts on that matter… and, let’s face it, a Dazzler concert is an invite for trouble (have you seen the Dazzler mini series? What did Kamala expect?)

Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #8. “Haunted” Part 8. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Paolo Villanelli. Mark Brooks did the cover art. Ghost Spider is on the trail of the Black Tarantula, fighting the clock against a verdict in the case against a corrupt judge. Along the way, Gwen battles Mister Fear. Luke Cage guest starred in this issue too.

The Ultimates #7. Written by Deniz Camp and art by Juan Frigeri. Dike Ruan & Neeraj Menon did the cover art. Hank Pym and Jim Hammond are out to see Tony Stark’s memorial. Lots of other things are going down with the world in seemingly crisis mode. However, the last page revealed the not-so-shocking reveal about the truth surrounding Stark. This feels like a building issue that may be leading to something bigger.

Hello Darkness #5. Another issue of the Boom! Studios hit horror anthology including another short with Erica Slaughter (kind of). Hello Darkness has been a nice book featuring some interesting comic horror, but I will say that I have enjoyed the James Tynion IV stories the most.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #27. “Webs of Wakanda Part One.” Written by Cody Ziglar and art by Daniele Di Nicuolo. Federico Vicentini & Erick Arciniega did the cover art. Miles is on his way to Wakanda with T’Challa in the hopes of finding some kind of answer with his vampirism.

Holiday Tales to Astonish #1. Cover art by Luciano Vecchio. Three Christmas stories featuring the Fantastic Four, the Uncanny X-Men and the Spectacular Spider-Men and creator including Gerry Duggan, Phil Noto, Daniel Kibblesmith, Pat Olliffe, Gene Yang, and Dylan Burnett. All three stories were fun, but my personal favorite was the present stealing Dr. Doom in the FF.

X-Men #8. “Raid on Graymalkin Part 1“. Written by Jed MacKay and penciled by Ryan Stegman. Cover art was done by Stegman, JP Mayer and Marte Gracia. The beginning of a big crossover between the X-Men and the Uncanny X-Men series, as the teams head to Graymalkin (the former estate of Charles Xavier) to try and retrieve their team members. I liked some of the character work with the Beast in this issue. Things look grave moving forward.

Avengers #21. “Avengers vs. X-Men.” Written by Jed MacKay and art by Valero Schiti. Cover art was done by Valero Schiti and Federico Blee. Yes, it is the X-Men vs. the Avengers… in a softball game! It turns out like kissing your sister… a tie! Who knew that Glob was such a great cook? Glob turns out to be the X-Men’s Jarvis. Oh, and Quentin Quire is a dick. We knew that already. The cover is a bit of a mislead… okay, more than a bit.

Avengers Assemble #4. Written by Steve Orlando and art by Valentina Pinti. Cover art was by Leinil Francis Yu & Romulo Fajardo Jr. The Aveng.e.r.s head to Latveria to try and prevent Victorious from doing too much damage trying to get into the dome around the country. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers gets turned into another animal. How many times does that poor guy have to get transformed?

The Art of Something is Killing the Children Companion. Cover art by Werther Dell’Edera (Gold Medalist). This is an art book compiling some of the awesome art of the epic Boom! Studios series. There are some of the greatest artists in comics today providing their work on Erica Slaughter and the excellent series. From Peach Momoko to Guillem March, some of the most beautiful work is on display in this book. It is stunning and any fan of the series and of just astounding comic art should pick this companion up.

Well, there was a bit of an unhappy situation this week. When I went to Comic World on NEW COMIC BOOK DAY, I sadly discovered that a huge part of their shipment had not been delivered. Nothing that came from Diamond was available, so there was no Marvel, Image, Boom, Dark Horse or so on. The only books that were there were DC Comics (and one from IPI).

I have only recently began to pick up a few DC books otherwise, I might not have had anything.

I am dreading the pile of books next week. I had over forty a few weeks ago, and I think it might be pushing that number or more next week.

This past Friday was Black Friday and I went to Comic World to partake in their Black Friday special of “Buy one back issue, get one free.” I was excited and I picked up a whole bunch of cool stuff. In particular, I got a large run of Defenders Vol 1 books. The earliest was #5, and then a bunch in the teens (#15-18), twenties and thirties (#20-22, #25-28, #32, #34-35). I also picked up several Peter Porker issues. I had number 1-5, but then I added #7, 8-11, #15. It was a lot of fun and I am very appreciative for Comic World.

I have been busy on eBay this week too. I picked up West Coast Avengers #35, 33, 30,29,28,27, 26, 25, 23 that arrived today. I had a gap in my West Coast Avengers collection and this gave me a chance to fill it out a little. I completed my DP 7 comics too with issues #15-17. DP7 was easily the best comic of the New Universe. BY FAR!

This week’s books:

Dark Shadows #1-4. By David Campiti, Scott Rockwell & E. Silas Smith. Another special series that I picked up at eBay. I actually won this in an auction on the site and got a pretty good deal, if I say so myself. The Dark Shadows TV show is given the Innovation comic treatment and it is a beautifully looking series. It will go nicely in my collection with the Innovation Psycho book. I am intrigued by these Innovation books from the 1990s and I will be looking into what other choices they may have available.

Absolute Superman #2. “Sun of Nothing.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Rafa Sandoval. Cover art by Sandoval & Ulises Arreola (Gold Medalist). The Absolute Superman continues to be very different and interesting, as Jason Aaron is, once again, awesome. Last issue I complained about “Agent” Lois Lane, but this issue seems to be tickling the journalism itch in Lois, and I kind of like it. I am enjoying this new take on the Man of Steel and I am excited to see where they are going to take me.

Two-Face #1. “Face vs. Face” Written by Christian Ward and art by Fabia Veras. Cover art by Baldemar Rivas (Silver Medalist). I did not intend to get this issue and I only picked it up because I had such a small week of books. Yet I really enjoyed this story of Harvey Dent and a courtroom of darkness. This issue got me hooked and I will be picking up issue two as well.

Creature Commandos #3. “The Deadening.” Written by David Dastmalchian and art by Jesus Hervas. Cover art was by Tirso. This is issue #3 of 6 and I am really not interested at this point. Any intrigue I had was washed away and I am only buying this as a completionist. I am looking forward to the new Creature Commando animated series on HBO Max, which I will probably be watching tonight. This, however, is a dud for me.

Sherlock Holmes: The Dark Detective, Claws of the Chimera #2. By Christopher Sequeira, Philip Cornell & Dave Elsey. Dave Elsey did the cover art (Bronze Medalist). I do like the new take on Sherlock Holmes so far. I must say that I hate the writing in the text boxes. It is just too small… it is making me feel old. The dialogue in the word balloons are fine, but those text boxes I have to squint and look really close at.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all get as much turkey as you possibly can and spend the day with the people who you care about.

Because of Thanksgiving break, I was able to head up to Comic World yesterday and spend part of the afternoon there. That meant I was able to get a head start on the reading of the books. Thankfully, it was not a massive 40+ book week as it was last week. I was then able to finish the rest of them last night which meant we get a holiday version of the Comic Cavalcade.

I did a new banner for the next stretch of issues. The special one for #125 was cool, but I did this one right after that.

This week’s books:

The Big Burn #2. Written by Joe Henderson and art and cover art by Lee Garbett. I think this might be my current favorite of the DSTLRY books. They come out so inconsistently that it feels as if they are forgotten. Not this one. The idea of pulling off a heist to try and get your soul back after selling it to Satan is such an original idea and I love the characters involved. This is truly a great books so far.

The Missionary #1. Written by Ryan Stegman and art by Jason Howard. Cover B art by Ryan Stegman. Another very strange story with another trip into Hell. I wonder if that is a general theme for DSTLRY moving forward. This was interesting and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

The Rocketfellers#1. Story and words by Peter J. Tomasi and story and art by Francis Manapul. Cover B art by Ivan Reis. A new book from the Ghost Machine imprint at Image, The Rocketfellers was a intriguing time travel type story with a family. There is a huge loss in the very beginning of the book that sets the stakes early. The Ghost Machine books have all been exceptional so far and I think this one could be in the same category.

West Coast Avengers #1. Written by Gerry Duggan and art by Danny Kim. Cover art was done by Ben Harvey (Bronze Medalist). I also picked up the variant issue (featuring Blue Bolt) with cover art by Todd Nauck. I was always a fan of the West Coast Avengers and so I was intrigued by the return of the title, especially with Ultron a member of the team. I’m not sure how that is going to turn out considering the end of the book. The last couple of pages gave me that Thunderbolts #1 vibe.

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #4. “The Eyes of a Monster“. Written, art and cover art by Michael Walsh (Silver Medalist). This is the final issue of this adaptation of Frankenstein. It was a very emotional end for the Monster and the story as a whole. This continued the path of these excellent Universal Monsters books from Image. Sounds as if the next book will be the Mummy.

Amazing Spider-Man #62. “Out of Space.” Written by Joe Kelly and penciled by Ed McGuinness. McGuiness & Marcio Menyz did the cover art. Spidey is being trained by astral plane Doctor Strange in magic to help him in his role as the earth’s new champion against the eight Scions of Cyttorak. Spidey recruited the Black Cat to do give some help, but she and Strange can only do so much.

Incredible Hulk #19. “City of Idols” Part Three. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and art by Nic Klein & Danny Earles. Cover art was by Nic Klein. This is listed as Legacy number 800 for the Hulk. I am curious what exactly they added in that Legacy number to get to it. Did they count the Hulk issues that were the She-Hulk? How about the Totally Awesome Hulk with Amadeus Cho? Anyway, there is also a group of backup stories including one with She-Hulk and one with Red Hulk.

Hyde Street #2. Creators were Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. Ivan Reis did the cover art too (Gold Medalist). Pip “Pranky” Peabody is the focus behind this issue, which has some disturbing moments in it. There is also a lot of fire. This Hyde Street series has been excellent so far, yet another example of the great work under Ghost Machine imprint.

Uncanny X-Men #6. “The Change in Ourselves.” Written by Gail Simone and art by Javier Garrón. David Marquez & Matthew Wilson were the cover artists. The new kids being taken care of by Rogue and the others have to deal with the new arrival, Becca Simon-Pinette and her issues. Oh, and Nightcrawler gets grabbed. Simone has been exceptional in this new X-series so far and I enjoy reading each of them.

Justice League Unlimited #1. Written by Mark Waid and art and cover art by Dan Mora. I have to say that this concept of the JL Unlimited was interesting to me after I read last week’s Question: All Along the Watchtower #1. It is based clearly on the Justice League animated series where they did the same idea. I am seemingly buying a few more DC books than I have before and this one definitely pushes the right buttons. It is fun not knowing whom may show up in the book.

Black Canary: Best of the Best #1. “Round One.” Written by Tom King and art and cover art by Ryan Sook. Speaking of buying more DC books, I like the idea of these lesser characters getting their own limited run. I am enjoying Plastic Man right now, Zatanna was a lot of fun and Black Canary feels like the next best example. Plus, Tom King is the writer and he has done some of my all-time favorite stories (particularly Vision). The whole Black Canary vs. Lady Shiva inside the squared circle is a cool idea.

Iron Man #2. “Move Fast and Break Things.” Written by Spencer Ackerman and art by Julius Ohta. Cover art was done by Yasmine Putri. Tony Stark is in trouble with his company once again as he is desperately trying to prevent a hostile takeover by AIM and ROXXON. Tony does not have access to his array of armor either, having to settle for a pieced together set.

Spider-Boy #13. “Late Entry” Written by Dan Slott and art by Paco Medina. Cover art was done by Paco Medina & Edgar Delgado. Spider-Boy and Daredevil are on the road trying to catch up with Bullseye and Spider Girl. Who would guess that they would wind up in a special tournament… in Madripoor?

Bad Dreams in the Night. Written and art by Adam Ellis. This was a graphic novel that came out last week, but I just had too many books to pick it up then. I had Todd put it in my box and bought it this week. It is a series of short horror stories by Adam Ellis and they are tremendous. I loved this graphic novel as each of the stories had its own flair to it. It was a variety of tones and stories, and it had some distinctly creepy scenes. After each story, he had a little explanation of where the story came from and some of these were personal. I enjoyed this graphic novel very much.

Absolute Wonder Woman #2. “The Last Amazon Part 2.” Written by Kelly Thompson and art by Hayden Sherman. Cover B variant art was done by Joelle Jones. The absolute DC books continue with Diana meeting up with Steve Trevor and ending up facing off with a giant monster. This was a good book and I am pleased so far with the Absolute DC books.

Dead Eyes: The Empty Frames #2-3. Written by Gerry Duggan and art by John McCrea. Got caught up with this new Dead Eyes series. I do love this character, who does not feel like a traditional hero in any way. In fact, I would go on the record saying that Dead Eyes is anything but. This is very interesting as Dead Eyes returns to mess up his own life.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4. “Grit & a Stick.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Chris Burnham. Cover art by Rafael Albuquerque. Jason Aaron’s run on TMNT has been sensational. This issue, featuring Donatello, is close to the excellence of issue #1. Donatello goes through a bunch of trauma here and it sure seems as he may be losing his own grip on reality. He was speaking to a regular rat as if it were Splinter. These TMNT books from Aaron have been so good.

The Tin Can Society #3. Written by Peter Warren and art by Francesco Mobili. Mobili and Chris Chuckry did the art on the cover. This has been one of my favorite independent books since it was released. The investigation into Johnny’s death continues as we get some important info in a flashback.

Mystique #2. “Brotherhood.” Written, drawn and cover art by Declan Shalvey. Mystique is out after Avalanche, her former Brotherhood of Evil Mutants partner. Meanwhile, we have a group of SHIELD agents, even two Nick Furys, running around in pursuit of her as well. There are a lot of things going on in this series and it is a fast read.

Dazzler #3. “Tokyo Escape.” Written by Jason Loo and art by Rafael Loureiro. Terry & Rachel Dotson did the cover art. After her last fiasco at her concert, Dazzler’s tour is in trouble. However, Lila Cheney and Dazzler head off for some fun in Tokyo to try and lighten the mood. That does not go well.

Feral #8. “The Cat House.” Written by Tony Fleecs and art by Trish Forstner & Tone Rodriguez. Cover art was by Trish Forstner and Tony Fleecs. Things turn real creepy as Elsie, Gigi and the kittens find Lord, but they are not pleased with the location. “The lady keeps us”… it is literally the crazy cat lady… what a creepy issue this was. Loved it.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #125

We have reached another milestone for EYG Comic Cavalcade. This is #125, which is always one of those major events for a comic book series. Truthfully, you do not see too many #125 issues any longer. Usually, these days, a series is rebooted well before it reaches #125, unless we are counting the “Legacy Numbering” which is a whole different can of worms. Anyway, I am pleased that we have reached #125 and look forward to the next milestone.

And, ironically, this week’s NEW COMIC BOOK DAY just inundated me with books. I got over forty issues this week just from the pull list, which, I believe, was the largest of all time. Whomp, was a load. It has a variety of books from across the spectrum of comic publishers and a huge plethora of characters and great storytelling. Having this number of books on issue #125 is fantastic.

Books this week:

Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho #1-3. Of course, then I start off the week with a mini series that I picked up off eBay and not in the pile of 40+ books. I finished my re-watch of Bates Motel, and while on Wikipedia researching, I found a series from a comic publisher called Innovation and it was a movie adaptation of the movie Psycho. I was able to pick this up on eBay and it is gorgeous. The art inside is beautiful painting work and this is truly a fantastic adaptation. The cover of #2 is one of my favorite covers in a long time.

You Never Heard of Me #1. Written by Iolanda Zanfardino and illustrated by Elisa Romboli. A new Dark Horse 5-issue mini series that follows a young teen who is given the power to see the best and the worst moments of other people’s lives. How this was set up was nicely done and it grabbed my attention immediately. Dark Horse has had some good stuff lately and this seems like a winner.

Ice Cream Man #42. “Horror House.” Written by W. Maxwell Prince and art by Martin Morazzo. Martin Morazzo & Chris O’Halloran did the cover art. Any book that starts off with a trigger warning is okay to me. Ice Cream Man is consistently one of the best horror anthologies on the market and this one takes some risks in it storytelling. It might be a divisive issue, but I found it extremely compelling.

Wolverine #3. “Hunters and Hunted” Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Martin Coccolo. Coccolo & Bryan Valenza did the cover art. Wolverine is back in the wilderness, being pursued by Department H, and trying to fight a Wendigo. Oh, and Wolverine is trying to help the kid who has been changed into that Wendigo. One of the most intriguing uses of the character of Wendigo in a long time.

Mark Spears Monsters #2. Written, cover art and art by Mark Spears. Another horror book that is absolutely on fire right now. The covers are sensational. I have cover E and it is beautiful. I will be getting cover A soon too. This is an entertaining series with classic monsters throughout, including Gill Man from the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Dracula. The art is stunning in this book.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #26. “Birds of a Feather Part Four.” Written by Cody Ziglar and art by Federico Vicentini. Vicentini & Neeraj Menon did the cover art. Miles and his new Wakandan costume kicked some Vulture butt here and Starling decided to put her grandpa in his place.

Living Hell #1. Written and drawn by Caitlin Yarsky. Another new Dark Horse book that was really enjoyable. The story does take an unexpected twist, flipping what you think was going on upside down. I found this one compelling as well.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #2. “Reborn.” Written by Jed MacKay and art by Alessandro Cappuccio. Davide Paratore did the cover art. Marc comes clean with Tigra. He has a piece of knowledge that he had been holding back because he was not sure how she would respond… Hank Pym is alive.

The Department of Truth #27. Written by James Tynion IV and art by Alison Sampson. Cover art was by Martin Simmonds. The story of Marilyn Monroe comes to a close in this issue. It goes to show how this series can take anything and make it an intriguing conspiracy.

Geiger #8. Written by Geoff Johns and art by Paul Pelletier. Cover art was by Gary Frank & Brad Anderson. The kids who helped out Geiger last issue takes him to their town, and Mr. Geiger finds that their father does not share some of the same ideas.

Jonny Quest #4. Written by Joe Casey and art by Sebastian Piriz. Cover art by Chad Hardin. Jonny Quest and his family, including the old version of Jonny, come face to face with Dr. Zin. The future story is coming to a close next issue.

Scarlet Witch #6. Written by Steve Orlando and art by Lorenzo Tammetta. Cover art was by Russell Dauterman. Agatha Harkness is back and she has brought Wanda a new student for Wanda to train. Why doesn’t Agatha just train the girl herself? Well, could it be that the girl is a bit of a handful? Or was it because the girl was being pursued by The Eliminator? Maybe both?

Avengers Assemble #3. Written by Steve Orlando and penciled by Marcelo Ferreira. Leinil Francis Yu & Romulo Fajardo Jr. did the cover art. She-Hulk leads a team of the Aveng.e.r.s. against the Nightstalkers, who are out to kill vampires, even those that haven’t done anything wrong.

Spider-Man: Reign II #5. Written, illustrated and cover art by Kaare Andrews. Spider-Man returned to his own time to face off with Kingpin and attempted to save the future (or present… depends on your POV). Big twist at the end of this series, which comes to a conclusion here.

Space Ghost #7. Written by David Pepose and art by Jonathan Lau. Cover art was by Francesco Mattina (Bronze Medalist). Blip is the focus of this issue as he suddenly has the ability to talk and think like humans.

Storm #2. “Death by Voodoo” Written by Murewa Ayodele and art by Lucas Werneck. Mateus Manhanini did the art for the cover. Storm is dying. And she is dying rapidly. As the clock counts down, Ororo looks for help from whoever she can, which leads her to Doctor Voodoo. I love the recent focus on Storm, both here in her own series and in the Avengers. Few deserve it more.

What If…? Minnie Became Captain Marvel #1. “The Awesome Origin of Minnie Captain Marvel” Written by Luca Barbieri and art by Giada Perissinotto. Cover art was by Perissinotto & Lucio Ruvidotti. The Disney Marvel mash ups continue with Mickey’s better half becoming Captain Marvel and doing battle with Peg Leg Scorpion. Scrooge McDuck makes an appearance too.

Daredevil #15. “Introductory Rites Part 15” Written by Saladin Ahmed and art by Luigi Zagaria. Cover art was done by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna and Richard Isanove (even though it is a misleading cover with Kingpin appearing on it, despite no Kingpin in the issue). Daredevil is lost, doubting his faith, and he searches for help from Father Javi.

Standstill #4. Written by Lee Loughridge and art and cover art by Andrew Robinson and Alex Riegel. More time shenanigans going down in this beautifully illustrated Image book. It is one of the more fascinating books each month.

Exceptional X-Men #3. Written by Eve L. Ewing and art by Carmen Carnero. Carnero & Nolan Woodard did the cover art. Kitty and Emma have a conflict over the proper manner in which to train the new kids, who end up picking super hero names. Iceman makes a cameo at the very end.

The Immortal Thor #17. “The Son of Thor” Written by Al Ewing and art by Jan Bazaldua. Cover art was done by Alex Ross (Silver Medalist). We finally discover what The Enchantress wants All-Father Thor to do for her. It is not bring back Iric. It’s another son of hers from a different timeline… a son she shared with Thor.

The Terminator #2. “Apocalypse Then: Part One.” Written and cover art by Declan Shalvey and interior art by David O’ Sullivan. The Terminator in Saigon. Hmm, interesting thought.

Ultimate Spider-Man #11. Written by Jonathan Hickman and guest artist David Messina. Marco Checchetto did the cover art. We get the first appearance of Ultimate Black Cat. Meanwhile, Mister Negative is causing some problems for Spidey and concerns for MJ. Can she handle the new lifestyle of her husband?

The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1. “Death on my Doorstep.” Written by Alex Segura and art by Cian Tormey. I have always enjoyed the DC character The Question, so I grabbed this issue #1 to check it out. Little did I know this was a new Question… who turned out to be former Gotham police officer Renee Montoya and she was given the job of running the JL Watchtower. Hmm… curious.

Kill All Immortals #4. Written by Zack Kaplan and art by Fico Ossio. Oliver Barrett did the cover art. Frey and Leif got away from Frey’s family and seemed to be on their way to publish the info that the immortals wanted protected. This final panel of this issue was shocking.

Lawful #5. Written by Greg Pak and illustrated by Diego Galindo. Qistina Khalidah did the cover art. Sung is forced to do something that he does not want to do in order to get his mother’s medicine. He is also nearly fully covered in scales from his breaking of the laws. Has Sung taken that step over the line that he will never be able to come back from?

House of Slaughter #27. Written by Sam Johns and illustrated by Letizia Cadonici. Cover art by Jorge Fornés and Werther Dell’Edera. Not sure I am into the new story arc “Azure.” I am having a difficult time following it. House of Slaughter has been a step down from Someone is Killing the Children since it debuted. Still looks great and I almost gave a medal to the cover.

Duck and Cover #3. Written by Scott Snyder and art and cover art by Rafael Albuquerque. Weird and wild stuff here. Krakens? Movies? Movie soundtracks that can blow up Krakens? This is a bizarre issue. Ended with yelling at a giant dog.

Masked Macher #3. Written by David A. Goodman and Alex Andres did the art. The Masked Macher makes an enemy of the Sheik, and Benny the bear is having personal troubles. MM convinced a gossip columnist that the MM was a more famous movie star. Another weird Dark Horse book.

Sentinels #2. “Let Me Take You Down.” Written by Alex Paknadel and art by Justin Mason. Mason & Federico Blee did the cover art. The Sentinels team heads after Sebastian Shaw, and things get tough. I liked this issue a little better than #1, and next issue features Magneto so maybe things will pick up even more.

Chasm: Curse of Kaine #4. Written by Steve Foxe and drawn by Andrea Broccardo. Mark Bagley & Rachelle Rosenberg did the cover art. This mini series comes to a conclusion with Chasm and Hallows’ Eve together and Kaine off on his own. We get a couple of throwdowns between the “brothers” here as this Spider-series was fairly fun.

Minor Arcana #3. Written, illustrated and cover art by Jeff Lemire. Theresa is feeling the guilt over her lying to the old woman about her husband. Will she get this guilt off her chest?

Phoenix #5. Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Alessandro Miracolo & Marco Renna. Yasmine Putri did the cover art. Eternity shows up to try and get Jean to fully embrace her Phoenix power. That’s not always a good thing. Certainly Gladiator doesn’t think so.

Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #7. “Haunted Part 7” Written by Stephanie Phillips and art by Von Randal. Mark Brooks did the cover art. Gwen takes on the Black Tarantula, but is there more there than just superhero/super villain.

Predator versus Black Panther #4. Written by Benjamin Percy and art by Chris Allen, Sean Damien Hill and Lee Ferguson. The final issue of this series sees Black Panther blow up the Predators but the vibranium (or as they call it the Godmetal) made it to their home planet. Predators with vibranium? Whoa.
