EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

May 14

We have another week of medalists. Diamond brought us most of the books this week (though not last week’s yet).

Bronze Medalist

I Was a Fashion School Serial Killer #2

Cover art by Daniel Hillyard & Michelle Madsen

I love the bloody hand raised in the air with the green background. This was extremely satisfying as it created some real question about the story.

Silver Medalist

Spectacular Spider-Men #15

Cover art by Mark Bagley & Edgar Delgado

This is a great cover with shots of so many awesome poses by Spider-Man, Miles, Thing, Wasp, Torch and others. They are looking out at us, welcoming us to this book in just the greatest fourth wall breaking manner.

Gold Medalist

Silverhawks #4

Cover art by Mark Spears

Mark Spears missed out on a winning cover last week as I did not get the cover of Space Quest #1 that he did. Spears is back on top this week with this beautiful art for Silverhawks.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

May 8

Here we are on Thursday, not Wednesday. Why is that?

Diamond.

Curse you Diamond. Once again, the Diamond order does not arrive when it was supposed to arrive. It also did not arrive today yet. That means that there are no Marvel or other company’s books in the race for the cover of the week this week.

Medal Winners this Week:

Bronze Medalist

Don’t Run With Scissors #1

Cover art by Stefano Cardoselli

This is one of the most interesting covers of the week. This cover makes me curious about what is going on here and the color scheme for the cover is sensational. I also love the X’s through the title card. Keenspot has a history of great covers with Mark Spears, and this is yet another one.

Silver Medalist

Los Monstruos #1

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Marcos Martin

I was looking at the variant covers for this book and I saw this C cover and I loved it. It had such an old school noir feel to it. I was intrigued by this book already and this cover only amplified that.

Gold Medalist

Two-Face #6

Cover art by Baldemar Rivas

The final issue of the Two-Face mini series saved the best for last. This is a great cover with a horrific image on Harvey Dent’s face and the iconic coin in his hand. The white background remains as one of my favorite background in comics.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

April 30

Hey, Diamond came through this week. However, there is still no Marvel books in the top 3 meal winners this week. There is one book that I got that was supposed to be out next week, which was strange. It is actually on the Midtown Comics list for May 7th. Still, it is on this list.

Bronze Medalist

You’ll Do Bad Things

Cover art by Tyler Boss

What a beautifully sinister cover. The long hands and blood with the red imagery behind the man just makes this stand out even more.

Silver Medalist

Mark Spears Monsters #4

Cover art by Mark Spears

This is the book that was supposed to be out next week, but showed up at Comic World today. This is a wonderful cover featuring Dracula. So details. So excellent. Mark Spears has been the star of the comic covers so far in 2025.

Gold Medalist

Something is Killing the Children #41

Variant Virgin Cover art by Anwita Citriya

What a spectacular virgin cover. The Blood across the beautiful face with those eerie green eyes. This is so gorgeous.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

April 23

So Diamond stuck it to us again this week, so no Marvel books this week. But it is a pretty decent week for DC and Image so we do have some choices.\

Bronze Medalist

Universal Monsters: The Mummy #2

Cover art by Faith Eric Hicks & Lee Loughridge

Love this design of the mummy in the background with the earth colors all around it. These Universal Monsters books have been solid with covers.

Silver Medalist

Dust to Dust #5

Cover art by J.G. Jones

Dust to Dust has has had some excellent covers too. JG Jones is a very solid artist and the realistic cover. Part of the standout of this book has been the coloring of the covers.

Gold Medalist

Out of Alcatraz #2

Cover art by Tyler Crook

This cover is a beautifully designed book. A theme of this week books would be coloring as the orange color on the cream background. Looks great, really stands out among the other books.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

April 16

It has not happened this way recently, but this week’s comic covers of the week are all Marvel.

Bronze Medalist

X-Factor #9

Cover art by Greg Land & D’Armata

Angel does not look happy. He is very frightening in this Archangel form. It looks awesome.

Silver Medalist

Superior Avengers #1

Variant cover B

Cover art by Joshua Cassara

Great cover with Dr. Doom and the white background. I love the picture on the wall too… if that is what it is. It is a very nice mixture and a cool variant.

Gold Medalist

Godzilla vs. Hulk #1

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Lee Garbett

I do love this style of these Godzilla covers vs. the Marvel characters. The fight poster-like style really gives this a great image of what the book will be.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

April 9

I had a personal day and spent the afternoon at Comic World. It is always a fun and relaxing time spending time with the books this week as well as friends and other customers.

It is a lighter week overall at this point, but I was able to pick out our top three medalists again. One of them has been fairly recurring through the year so far.

Bronze Medalist

Phoenix #10

Cover art by Yasmine Putri

The flames surrounding Jean Grey in space as she encircles the earth make this a beautifully powerful image. I love how the space behind her becomes her new costume. Strong start.

Silver Medalist

Return of the Living Dead #3

Cover art by Mark Spears

Mark Spears has been a master of monsters over the last year or so and these zombies are extremely scary and beautifully rendered. The green and purple make such a compelling contrast on the cover that you forget about this frightening creature on its way to eat your brains.

Gold Medalist

Absolute Batman #7

Cover art by Nick Dragotta

This Batman cover really stands out with the icicles dangling from the title and the dark background with the blue indicating coldness. Oh, there is some red in the corner of the page. Blood maybe? Batman is down looking at it and we see him investigating. Love this cover.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

April 2

A quick happy heavenly birthday to my friend Frank. We always joked about Frank’s birthday being the fallout from April Fools Day. I wish we could make that joke to him now.

Anyway, here are this week’s medalists.

Bronze Medalist

Justice League: The Atom Project #4

Variant cover B

Cover Art by Mark Spears

Mark Spears appeared again as a medalist, this time with a DC Comics book with the Atoms. This was a neat cover with the cool background.

Silver Medalist

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #7

Cover art by Davide Paratore

What a dramatic cover this is with 8-Ball looking quite suspicious. The excellent poses and the blood across Moon Knight makes this truly exceptional.

Gold Medalist

Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell #1

Cover art by Steve McNiven

This is a beautiful design on this cover. You have old man Matt Murdock up from, standing in a graveyard with snow everywhere. The specter of Daredevil in the background. Again it is the white background, which is always a favorite.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

Part Two

Yes, because of Diamond, we have split the EYG Comic Covers of the Week have a second post including three more medalists.

Bronze Medalist

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4

Cover art by Leonardo Romero

Cool blue cover. Not sure what is happening, but I am extremely curious about it.

Vampirella #1

Variant Cover C

Cover art by Mark Spears

Mark Spears is back on the list with a beautiful Vampirella cover. I do not usually pick up Vampirella and the eerie cover helped make me want to pick this up.

Feral #11

Variant Cover

Cover art by Trish Forstner & Allen Passalaqua

This is an awesome movie homage. Feral has been doing horror movie homages on their variant, but I’m not sure which one this is. It is really great. There is a scary tone from this cover.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

March 26

Curse you, Diamond.

So …. no Marvel or any of the independent books this week. Diamond continues to have an inconsistent delivery schedule that makes it tougher for me. I was expecting a large number of books this week and now it has been split up into two groups.

Oh well…

Bronze Medalist

Universal Monsters: The Mummy #1

Cover art by Faith Erin Hicks & Lee Loughridge

I love these Universal Monsters books and this cover is straightforward and nicely designed. I love the straps in the background.

Silver Medalist

The Kids #1

Cover art by Dalibor Talajic

A Garth Ennis book from Image has a frightening looking cover. It really sets a tone for what this book will be offering… something that the title does not do.

Gold Medalist

Absolute Wonder Woman #6

Cover art by Hayden Sherman & Jordie Bellaire

What a stunning cover this is. The red color and the black background works amazingly.. or should I say, wonderfully? This was a definite standout of the week.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

March 19

It is NEW COMIC BOOK DAY and it is time for the Favorite Comic Covers of the Week.

Another week with no Marvels in the medalists. There are a lot of good comics out there.

Bronze Medalist

Out of Alcatraz #1

Cover art by Tyler Crook

I love this cover. It has such a retro feel to it, with the background and the shadow of the runner out of the title. This feels so original.

Silver Medalist

The Deviant #9

Cover art by Joshua Hixson

It has been awhile since issue #8 and this finale of the series provided a mystery about who the killer was. This is an awesome cover that really portrays that mystery with the blacked out face.

Gold Medalist

Saga #72

Cover art by Fiona Staples

How cute is this. That was my first thought when I was flipping through the pile of new books this week. It was excellent.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

March 13

It is time for the EYG Comic Covers of the Week. To be fair, this week did not have the number of contenders as last week did, but there were a few solid choices outside the medalist. One of them was actually released last week.

Bronze Medalist

Darkwing Duck #1

Variant Cover B art by Mark Bagley

Darkwing Duck has his own Dynamite book and he has a classic Spider-Man artist handling a variant cover. This cover has some epic Darkwing Duck action in front of a cityscape. The big full moon and the bolts of electricity help make this stand out.

Silver Medalist

Batman: Dark Patterns #4

Cover art by Hayden Sherman

Love this image of a ginormous Batman wrapping his cape around this building, red skies in the background and yet another big, full moon. This is very much of a visual image that speaks on the power of Batman.

Gold Medalist

Absolute Superman #5

Cover art by Rafa Sandoval & Ulises Arreola

It is another powerful image on the cover of a DC book that earns the gold medal. The flames and the explosions around Superman are just epic and his glowing red hands stand out of the fire. All surrounding the S-insignia. Amazing. Congrats to DC for a strong week of covers.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

March 5

I had a real hard time cutting this week’s covers down. My first time through, I had a possible ten covers in the race for the top three medal positions. It was really challenging to try and pick three. I failed at the task. I decided to have a tie for the bronze medal (second time ever). Interestingly enough, none of them are variant covers (there was a cool Peach Momoko NYX cover in the running, but…)

Bronze Medalists

1. Kill Train #2

Cover art by Skylar Patridge

AND

2. The Immortal Thor #21

Cover art by Alex Ross

Kill Train is an awesomely disturbing cover as our main protagonist is wiping the blood from the window of the train. Really cool imagery. Immortal Thor is from last year’s champion Alex Ross and has a great look at the Executioner facing off with Thor. Thor’s reflection in the axe. Oh, and there is Thanos standing in the background.

Silver Medalist

Dust to Dust #3

Cover art by JG Jones

Dust to Dust has had some of the best, most consistent covers of the year. This rattlesnake crawling around this skull is so beautiful.

Gold Medalist

Doctor Strange of Asgard #1

Cover art by Geoff Shaw and Arthur Hesli

Stephen Strange with his coat of many colors on the Rainbow Bridge. This is bright and shiny and jumps out from the pack on a really strong week.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

February 27

So, yesterday I said that the Diamond delivery had not arrived at Comic World and that I might have to do another EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week before next week. I did not expect it to be the next day. But that is where we are. I picked up nineteen books today so I think another group of medalists is on their way.

Bronze Medalist

TVA #3

Cover art by Pere Perez & GURU-eFX

Fun cover with some fun characters. Love Miss Minutes from Loki and Spider-Gwen is always great. Who’s hand is that, by the way?

Silver Medalist

Ripperland #2

Cover art by Alessandro Oliveri

Some wonderful imagery and color on this Dark Horse book. It gives that old-timey feel while still standing out among the books on the shelf.

Gold Medalist

Hello Darkness #8

Variant Cover B

Cover Art by Jenny Frison

Hello Darkness has a great cover every month. This variant cover is both awesome and kind of disturbing.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

February 26

Another condensed week this week as Diamond continues to mess with the delivery to Comic World. No Marvel and several of the independents are absent from this. It is yet to be seen if there will be another EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week this week.

Bronze Medalist

Behemoth #2

Cover art by Jay Martin

The Dark Horse book has a creepy vibe to it. Behemoth has been a cool book and this cover gives us the unexpectedness of some creature. Awesome look.

Silver Medalist

The Human Fly #3

Cover art by John Scherpenhuizen

This is a psychedelic cover with awesome colors and images of Human Fly stands out. Oh, and there is an actual fly on the cover.

Gold Medalist

Bug Wars #1

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Peach Momoko

I got this on eBay today and, since it would have placed had I got it a couple of weeks ago, I decided to include it. And a Gold Medal for Peach Momoko. This is a beautiful variant cover for a cool new series.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

February 19

Big week of books this week. Lots of choices for the medals and it was a real tough decision. I had five books that I had narrowed the list down to and I considered doing a tie for both the bronze and silver medals. However, I made a final decision on the books and found my final three.

Ironically, a book that I saw on the newsstand at Comic World and grabbed because I loved the cover, did not make the cut. It was a beautiful foil cover of Ultimate Black Panther#13. There was also Amazing Spider-Man #68 which nearly made the medals.

So here are the three medalist this week.

Bronze Medalist

Shazam #20

Variant Cover D

Cover art by Mark Spears

I do not collect Shazam, but the opportunity to buy this book fell into my lap (thanks Todd) and I couldn’t pass it up. Mark Spears has been a star this year so far.

Silver Medalist

Mystique #5

Cover Art by Declan Shalvey

The Mystique series has had some extremely intriguing and attractive covers, including this issue. With the skull on Mystique’s body, and a mask in her hand, this gives us a insight into the concept of Raven. This is an amazing cover.

Gold Medalist

House of Slaughter #30

Cover art by Jorge Fornes and Werther Dell’edera

I love this one. The contrasts with the black and blues on the cover are awesome. This is such a interesting cover that it beat some really great ones. It is simply a standout.
