“The Drive”
This episode felt like it was setting up the bigger things moving forward.
Juliette getting the Algorithm to approve two people to go to the other silo and retrieve the children. Of course, Juliette wants someone to go to plug off the gas. She agrees to resume taking the memory drugs if they can bring the children back.
This whole things feels as if both of them are lying to adjust their own plans.
We spent a chunk of time with the idea that Knox and Shirley would be the people sent to the other silo, but it did not look like they are heading out, which made their entire conversation moot.
We get some good work from Camille this week. She is really our main antagonist and she has shown more depth than one would expect. When she coldly told the Algorithm she had already placed the Vitamin D in the water supply, it was chilling.
The past story with the controlled car uses the time to learn more about Helen and passing the time until they arrived with Senator Rosalind Thurman asking them if they want to save the world.
Again, this feels as if it were all done to set up the rest of the season, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I hope this will lead to a real banger of a second half of the season.

Yes, a transitory episode (literally so for those two stuck in the car) that felt like hitting the pause button to set things up for the last few episodes.
What I cannot understand though, regards the Vitamin D, is that if everyone forgets everything (who they are, who everyone else is) then wouldn’t that just start a mass panic from all the confused people? And what if the medical staff forgot their training, or the engineers all their skills? I can’t understand that as a solution. Its just dismantling the sense of order and routine that the Algorithm is allegedly fighting to maintain. I can fathom the sense in making troublesome individuals like Juliette forget, but doing it to the entire Silo population seems pretty nonsensical to me as a plot device.
And the subplot regards stolen lightbulbs also doesn’t make a lot of sense. I can’t see why that makes sense for anyone inside the Silo, what use could they possibly have for them, unless planning to hold everyone to ransom in two years when the supply runs out? The alternative is another Silo needing them, and stealing them from Silo 18, but that opens up another can of worms (how is the Algorithm unaware of interference from a rival Silo?).
Well, I’m likely over thinking things and reasons may be revealed in the next episode or two. Its quite fun though. Reminds me of the good old days watching Babylon 5 and the reboot of BSG and trying to figure the mysteries out.
