The film that I had listed as the best animated movie of 2013 was not released in theaters. Instead, it was a home release that featured an adaptation of the 2011 DC Comics crossover event Flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert.

This film was considered unnecessary by a lot of people. Toy Story 3 ended with such a perfect conclusion with Andy giving his toys away and going off to college that many people thought they should have left it well enough. Then, the put out this fun and exciting follow up, expanding the Toy Story world even more. Maybe you shouldn’t doubt Toy Story as this is now the second outing to make the Top 100.

The Simpsons Movie brought the iconic TV characters to the big screen for a huge movie. What was ironic was that The Simpsons Movie is in my Top 100 Animated Movies, but The Simpsons did not make my Top 100 TV Shows list.

Here is one of those films that I had no anticipation for and did not to expect to love it as much as I did. However, sure enough, I loved this. John Cena was great as the voice of Ferdinand. Based on a 1936 book called The Story of Ferdinand, this even received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

This film received way more hate than it deserved. It came out during a “down” time for Pixar, but this film was a typically excellent Pixar outing, no matter what the haters said.

“Hayao Miyazaki returns to head up the next Studio Ghibli film and this is one of the studio’s most popular and well-known films. Princess Mononoke is one of the first films people cite when speaking about the animation giant and it is well deserved. The film is truly a grandiose, fantasy epic that spirals through the forests of Japan.” -from my review on the site.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio

I considered a couple of Pinocchio movies for this list, and, in the end, I decided upon only one. I let the iconic Disney film sit on the outside of the Top 100 and included the masterful creation from Guillermo Del Toro. This film ended up winning the Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature in 2023.

Amazing as it seems to me now, I had never seen Mulan until 2019. The main reason I went to finally watch the film was because the live action that Disney was coming out with and I thought I should see the original before the live-action, and I loved it. The voice of Mulan was one of my favorite actresses from Agents of Shield, Ming-Na Wen.

Toy Story 5 is the most recent of the films on this list. While Hoppers and Minions and Monsters might make a future list of Top 100 Animated Movies, Toy Story 5 had to make this one. I am a big fan of the Toy Story franchise, and the latest film works in many different ways. Having Jessie being the main focus of the story was a good choice.
