Silo S3 E10

“Troy”

During this awesome season finale, my first thought was… I don’t know the time frame happening in this show. I originally thought that the Juliette timeline was really a long way into the future. But… now…

We saw Victor, who was the doctor who helped Daniel back in the flashback timeline, watching the events of Silo 18. Turned out that Victor was the voice of the Algorithm. We see Daniel wake up from a cryogenic sleep, only to be called Troy and not remember anything about his past. We see Daniel’s sister Charlotte, now called Susan, and neither Troy or Susan recognized each other.

I have to say, the people looking generally the same age in the present timeline threw me for a loop. I was not expecting it. I assume they all have some time in cryo to account for it, but it took me a good deal of time trying to decipher the answer.

Big swerve. Camille helped the rebels in silo 18 as she delayed the failsafe just long enough for the crew to cap the pipe that would have delivered the poisonous gas into silo 18. I did not see Camille’s turn coming at all.

Another big swerve. After the failed failsafe attempt, Victor ordered Troy awakened. Before that could happen, Victor ends his own life with a handgun he had hidden in his desk. He left a message for Troy, answering a question Troy had been asking… about a woman he had been seeing in visions as he is awaken. Victor told him her name was Helen.

I did not mention that we saw the massacre of the people of silo 17, and that Troy was the person who ordered the deaths. In one of the hardest scenes of the series, we saw the poison released after the people had left their silo and how the drones would mow them down with weapons.

After all the drama, Juliette led a small group of people including Camille to the door. It was here when Troy spoke using the Algorithm voice and offered Juliette a deal. There would be no further failsafe attempts if the people of silo 18 promise to not try to contact other silos. Juliette accepted, but it was part of her rouse. Juliette has a better idea, something that the people of silo 1 would not expect. Juliette wanted to have an all out assault on silo 1.

So many questions still up in the air. I believe the creators of the show hinted at a connection between Troy/Daniel and Juliette. Could she be the descendent of Daniel and Helen’s baby?

I love how everyone in silo 18 now seems to be working together instead of against each other. About damn time.

I do think an actual timeline of events would help picture all that there is. It seemed as if the massacre that Troy led in this finale was the same one that Solo (Steve Zahn) experienced as a child.

We learned that season four will be the final season of the show and that we do not have to wait long for Silo to return. It showed us clips from season four at the end of the episode and told us that it would release in the summer of 2027. We are under a year away from the final season. I found this season of Silo to be filled with surprises and fantastic character work. Even when it was frustratingly slow at times, it always felt like they had a destination in mind, and the end of season three paid off dramatically.

“Farewell”

Holy Shit.

I knew something was going to happen, but I did not expect there to be a mushroom cloud.

And now I wonder… did the people behind the creation of the silos… know the bomb was going to be dropped. I even considered myself… did they set off the explosion themselves? Otherwise, it sure feels like a ton of coincidence happening here.

The penultimate episode of season three was explosive in many ways besides the huge nuclear bomb that goes off at the end.

How does Bernard survive this time? Could it be that we finally saw the end of the road for Tim Robbins? Bernard, who turned himself in as part of the plan, is sent out of the silo to clean, without a suit. We see his nose start to bleed and he slumped next to the tree. I have no idea how he could have survived. I have a feeling Bernard is now gone.

Bernard’s cleaning was meant to be a distraction as bombs were going off in the silo in an attempt to pinch off the poison. We left the episode as Camille was running out of the cafeteria in an attempt to prevent the revolt.

I wondered last week what was next for Daniel and Helen. I did not know they were together and then Helen was pregnant. When the bomb went off, Daniel was pulled into silo 1 and Helen was taken into silo 17. Could Helen give birth to a baby that is a descendent of someone we know?

The Algorithm is being set up to being a real person and not a machine. I think there is a good chance that that voice is Daniel… though I have no idea how that would happen.

This was a great episode and it sets up next week’s season 3 finale beautifully.

Silo S3 E8

“Gray Goo”

I am not sure where the flashbacks go from here. With everything about the silos laid out, the rejection by Helen and Daniel of the offer by Stensen and Thurman feels like a conclusion. Maybe there is more here than what I can tell, but right now, I am not sure what that will be.

The drama inside the silo is picking up actively. Juliette has been arrested and placed in the same cell as Sims.

The episode gives us answers about what happened to Lukas and Kennedy on their attempt to go to Silo 17. Lukas was shot and Kennedy helped him to get to the silo.

Steve Zahn was back and he was spectacular in this episode. I have missed Jimmy and Zahn’s portrayal of this character and it is great that he was back. The information of his mother’s fate was painfully displayed across Zahn’s face and eyes.

Sheriff Paul has found the killer of Orla Kent. It was her boyfriend to keep her quiet about the smuggling from critical supply.

Everything is building toward the end of the season. I am not sure what the flashback story is going to be moving forward, but the present day story is on fire.

Silo S3 E7

“Radio”

Lukas and Kennedy went out of the silo and attempted to go to Silo 17. They did not make it. However, the surprise was that they were apparently shot. At the end of the episode, it sounded as if Lukas and Kennedy survived and reported that he had the kids that he went to retrieve. That still makes me question the entire thing. It sure sounded like bullets (probably from drones) when Lukas and Kennedy lost contact.

Because of this apparent failure of this mission, there was an attempt to blow up judicial in a way to try and stop the poison gas. Juliette struggled with the decision as she realized that whatever plan she decided upon would lead to death for hundreds of people.

Everything got called off when we discovered that Lukas and Kennedy were not dead (or so we think).

There was some big developments between Sims and Camille as they had a huge conflict about Sims’s actions. Camille is feeling the pressures of leading the IT. The Algorithm seemed to be manipulating her too.

Then we see the creation of the silos from the flashback time. We discovered that billionaire Per Stensen is behind the construction of the silos in Georgia.

Things are getting wilder as the the season is on its way to a conclusion.

“The Drive”

This episode felt like it was setting up the bigger things moving forward.

Juliette getting the Algorithm to approve two people to go to the other silo and retrieve the children. Of course, Juliette wants someone to go to plug off the gas. She agrees to resume taking the memory drugs if they can bring the children back.

This whole things feels as if both of them are lying to adjust their own plans.

We spent a chunk of time with the idea that Knox and Shirley would be the people sent to the other silo, but it did not look like they are heading out, which made their entire conversation moot.

We get some good work from Camille this week. She is really our main antagonist and she has shown more depth than one would expect. When she coldly told the Algorithm she had already placed the Vitamin D in the water supply, it was chilling.

The past story with the controlled car uses the time to learn more about Helen and passing the time until they arrived with Senator Rosalind Thurman asking them if they want to save the world.

Again, this feels as if it were all done to set up the rest of the season, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I hope this will lead to a real banger of a second half of the season.

Silo S3 E5

“Memory”

This was a big episode, focusing heavily on the shocking cliffhanger that they gave us last week, the very much alive Bernard.

The biggest part of the episode was the flashbacks to show us how Bernard survived the fire and how he wound up not being incinerated. Of course, the man behind Bernard’s survival was Sims.

This is the first time in three seasons that I did not see Sims as the villain. Same with Bernard. Both men were given material to show how much they were forced to do what they did. That did not excuse their choices, but it helps to understand the levels that they were at.

And, as the episode’s title implies, the show was also about memory and the reclaiming of the memory by Juliette. By the end of the episode, Juliette had gotten her memories back of the other silo and the information she learned about the Safeguard. Thanks to the Pez Dispenser.

Rebecca Ferguson continues to be excellent as Juliette, playing her confusion and the slow return of her memory beautifully.

Meanwhile, a new danger is uncovered by Sheriff Billings, and it sounds really bad. Light bulbs are being stolen and they are down to just about two years supply remaining, which means, soon, they will be unable to grow their food.

We only get a little time at the very end of the episode for a flashback to the before times, but it is a big one as Daniel and Helen are driving and the car suddenly takes control and is driving itself.

Great episode this week that really built on the shock from the last scene last week. Silo has been a touch slow at times this year, struggling to get its story going. That is not a factor any more.

“Whatever You Do, Don’t Go Home”

Gasp.

I literally sat up in my chair and stared in a shocked silence as Juliette pushed aside the curtain and saw Bernard lying in bed, badly burned…but ALIVE!

Did not see that coming at all.

What a great cliffhanger for the tag at the end of episode 4. After we spent the episode with Juliette escaping from people trying to kill her (that scene in the doctor’s office where the nurse ended up helping her was intense), to drop this bomb at the end was just so unexpected.

Big things happening in the flashbacks section too as Daniel and Helen were approached and an offer was made to them to get them to drop what they were doing with the investigation into the Iraq mission. This was just after Daniel tried to get a friend Sam to dig into it more. He initially refused, but could not let it go and, apparently, found something major… that we don’t learn about this week.

Back in the silo, we learn that Orla Kent was not a victim of the rat gases, but was, instead, murdered and had her body dropped in the mine. Sheriff Billings seemed to be on this case. I am not sure what side he is coming down upon, but I have a feeling he could eventually become an ally.

The reappearance of Bernard injected this storyline with a burst of energy. I was kind of glad Bernard (played the the awesome Tim Robbins) was dead, because he deserved it, but with him back, I have no idea where things go from here. Who knows that Bernard is not dead and was not incinerated as we were told earlier in the season.

So many questions…

“A Dark Web”

Juliette is becoming a bigger problem than The Algorithm wants and it has made a suggestion to Camille that it has gotten to a moment where she can kill Juliette and make her into a hero.

And make her dead.

This Algorithm was nasty and dangerous. It kept making threats about purging the whole silo to get Camille to do what it wanted.

It was nice to see that Lukas Kyle was alive, though I always expected him to be that way. He was able to avoid capture still thanks to some of the Outsiders.

We get to see Camille in a bit of different light in this episode as she pushed back against the Algorithm, and we learn motives for her. Of course, she also ordered the gas bombing to get rid of “rats” without letting the people know.

In the past, Daniel and Helen are in search of a supposed recording of the last few minutes of the flight Daniel’s sister was involved in during the Iraq mission. Helen had been fired from her job because she was digging too deeply. When they went back to try and get the tape from the hacker, they found the warehouse is ransacked.

The story is starting to pick up. I am curious to see more of the back story and how it plays into the present day.

“It’s All Good”

Silo continues to be a fascinating show.

Two timelines underway. Present day sees Juliette taking some steps to try and recover her memory, including secretly spitting out the “vitamins” she is given at the end of the day. We also hear from the Algorithm that there is a plan to place vitamin D in the water supply, and that the Algorithm is worried that Juliette, which currently acts as a calming trait to the people of the silo, will someday outlive her usefulness.

In the past, we focus more on Daniel and his sister Charlotte. Reporter Helen used her sneakiness to get Charlotte alone so she could ask her some questions. More of the mission to Turkmenistan was revealed as we learn it was not really about nuclear sites.

Juliette went to the cafeteria and saw the same constellation she saw previously with Lukas Kyle.

The whole water supply storyline feels like a classic villain plot. I would assume that the Algorithm wants to keep the memories of the people of the silo in check as well, to maintain the balance that it wanted.

Camille has stepped right into the shoes of the antagonist of this series, taking Bernard’s spot without missing a beat. There are so many threads hanging in the present day that she is keeping tied that it really feels like things could unravel at any moment.

I hope we can get this shell of a person that is currently Juliette and get back the powerhouse that she was prior to the events of her return.

Silo is some great sci-fi storytelling on Apple TV +.

Silo S3 E1

“Who Are You?”

Apple TV +’s sci-fi series Silo has returned and started its third season. The show stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette, who has returned from her “cleaning” without her memory and, apparently, has been elected (appointed???) Mayor of Silo 18.

Juliette is being treated like a savior, a messiah, a hero by the others in the Silo.

We left season two with Juliette and Bernard trapped inside the incinerator. Juliette does not remember anything prior to the incinerator, and she was told that she was saved by the insulation in her suit. She is told Bernard was not as lucky and he died from the exposure to the flames and the poison.

However, we see a flashback of Sims actually smothering Bernard with plastic after he had survived the incinerator.

We get a bunch of things like this, certainly implying that Sims and his wife Camille are manipulating people, including Juliette.

Juliette found a capsule in her soup that contained a message. The message stated, “Want to know the truth? Leave your bowl upside down. Go to the marketplace.” 

We had learned that Juliette was being drugged by Camille and that The Algorithm is worried that Juliette’s real memories are returning.

The show had a series of flashbacks, connected to the pair of characters that we saw in Washington, D.C. at the end of season two. This was pre-collapse times and one of the characters was Congressman Daniel Keene, who is concerned about his sister Charlotte Keene, who is scheduled to fly a mission to bomb Iran in response to the “dirty bomb” mentioned last year.

Charlotte is shown in a plane that entered a cloud that was not supposed to be there which led to a bizarre crash. Charlotte is rescued but she has suffered a brain injury and she does not recognize Daniel when he comes to see her.

These flashbacks give me definitive LOST vibes, especially the vibes of season four when we saw the Oceanic Six in present day time.

Intriguing start with a whole bunch of new mysteries to sink your teeth into. This is released every Friday night on Apple TV +.

Silo S2 E10

“Into the Fire”

The ending of Silo season two made me think of the ending of LOST season 3, where Jack said “We have to go back!” That moment was such a mind-f that no one was expecting it. That is how I felt when suddenly, the end of Silo seemed to be in a different time before the silos were built.

It led to us seeing where the Pez dispenser came from. It was such an unexpected twist that it was wild.

Both sides of the storyline this year came together in some great scenes.

  • I was right about Walker and the others setting up Bernard, although, I have to admit, mid way through the episode, I was not sure if I was right. Loved the scene between Walker and Bernard that confirmed the plan.
  • Juliette coming over the hill as the whole of silo 18 was preparing for force their way outside was as dramatic as it could be. It was one of the best moments of the show.
  • Again, it may just be me, but Juliette writing “Not Safe. Don’t come out” and showing it on screen as she did reminded me of “Not Penny’s Boat” by Charlie on LOST. Yeah, I know I have LOST on the brain.
  • The Algorithm is strange. It said that Camille could stay but Sims and his son had to leave. Why? Solo kept saying that his mom did not come back when they went to deal with the Safeguard. Is this tied together?
  • The scene where Juliette let Audrey have it for her treatment of Eater, whom we learn has a named- Hope. This was awesome because I have thought Audrey has had something shoved up her butt since the minute we met her.

Last week I believe I stated that ep. 9 was my favorite of the season. That is no longer accurate as episode 10 was just completely awesome from the beginning to the weird flashback at the end. The fire that seemingly consumed Juliette and Bernard, the rebellion’s ‘end’, and everything else.

Silo has done a tremendous job of providing specific details and answers to mysteries while keeping plenty of them active to keep the audience guessing. Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Robbins were outstanding all season long with a special shout out to Steve Zahn’s Solo who may have been the best character we have met so far. Zahn’s performance was special and his bond with Juliette was incredible.

Season three looks to have a ton of surprises in store, and I cannot wait to see where this sci-fi series takes me. Apple TV + has yet another epic series on its hands.

“The Safeguard”

Wow. This was an intense episode of Silo. It was easily my favorite episode of season two so far. Everything is coming together into major events setting up for the season finale next week.

If I am being honest, some of this season has not caught my attention. I have always been in on everything Juliette is doing, but a lot of the political stuff from the original silo has gone over my head. However, as things ratchet up, every scenes has grown in intensity.

Silo had a LOST moment too as Juliette comes across the Others. Okay, that is not their names, but she found this handful of young adults as she was searching for Solo. The inclusion of these characters brought a anxiety level that ramped things up. Rick and Audrey are angry and spiteful… at least Audrey is. She is very much like kill first and figure it out later. We see how she was behind a lot of the missteps that happened to Juliette earlier in the series (another LOST like trope that saw the same scene from different POV).

Juliette tried to figure out the combination to the vault for Rick and Audrey. Audrey had told her that she would kill Solo when her baby cried again because the baby was hungry. This all led to the reveal of Solo’s backstory and the tragic events that led up to him being stuck in that vault on his own. The whole scene of Juliette trying to convince Solo to give her the combination was effective and suspenseful.

Lukas winding up in front of the giant AI was amazing too. What is the Safeguard? I don’t know, but I think it is safe to assume that it is a way to protect the secrets by destroying the silo. We know there are 51 other silos out there and, according to the AI, only three other people had ever gotten the instructions it was going to give to Lukas.

What side is Sims and his wife going to end up on? I don’t know but all I know is that Bernard needs to face some justice. He is such a horrible character at this point, just concerned with his own power. Unless, that is, there is something that the show has not shown us yet, which is absolutely possible. I think Bernard is going to get his because of Knox. I think Know knows that Walker is the “traitor” and that he was setting up Bernard with a fake story. Maybe I am wrong about that, but the way he spoke to Walker about the possible traitor, it really seemed as if he had figured out the truth.

The finale looks to be a huge episode. This one was easily my favorite of the year so far as every story grasped my attention and made me anxious.

“The Book of Quinn”

Apple TV +’s sci-fi series Silo is marching along this season with plenty of tense and anxiety-filled moments.

My favorite section is those including Rebecca Ferguson. She is an awesome actress and her character, Juliette, is one bad ass. Just this episode, she gets shot by an arrow, pulls it out, treats the wound, while suffering from the bends, and continues on in her search for the person who took Solo. She needs her suit back to make it back to her own silo and only Solo knows where it is.

At the end, though, Juliette comes across three others, one of which had that bow trained back on her for a second time.

Bernard is a real dirtbag. His quest for power is just non-stop as he manipulates poor Walker into becoming his snitch. He placed her former spouse’s life in danger in order to blackmail her. He truly is an epically horrible man. He is also going to be taking advantage of Lukas until he gets the message translated. Sims told Lukas that Bernard will dump him immediately after he gets what he needed from him, and I believe that fully.

More details on the mysterious and apparently awful Salvador Quinn are revealed as Lukas found the book that he was looking for, a copy of the Pact.

Two more episodes remain in season two of Silo and I see big things preparing to happen.

Silo S2 E7

“The Dive”

Juliette goes diving again and winds up in trouble. Solo convinced her to fix the water pump before she left his silo because, and rightfully so, he believes that once she leaves she most likely will never come back.

He explained about swimming to her and also about the bends. It’s a fascinating world where someone has to be explained what swimming is. Plus, you know that his comments about the bends were going to lead to something.

While she is down in the water, her oxygen goes off and the connection to the bell she would ring is severed too, forcing her to ascend in a rapid manner. When she gets up there, Solo is nowhere to be seen and there is blood around the area.

Is there someone else in this silo? Always thought so. This all but confirms it.

Bernard continues to flail in his attempts to keep everything together, but more and more things are going against him. This includes Sims, whose wife has been whispering in his ear. Sims and Bernard have a tense convo where lines sure seem to be laid down.

The food poisoner is revealed too. The level’s head cook who had told them about the poison in the first place. Her mother is above the blockade and they were using this as a way of pressuring her to do their bidding.

Lucas is making progress with the code too as it is a numerical code from a book- Bernard believes it is from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Silo S2 E6

“Barricades”

Silo streamed its sixth episode the other day and things continue to be happening. This episode spent most of the time in our original silo, with only a few minutes at the end of the episode with Juliette and Solo.

Sheriff Billings takes a stand after finally getting to be able to talk to Shirley, Knox and Walker. He showed himself that he was willing to follow the law and not worry about whose side he is on. He also seemed to discover that his shakes from the Syndrome were gone despite not taking his herbs for days. What does this mean for the people of the silo? Is it just one more lie that has been used to maintain the status quo?

Bernard is feeling like he is losing control of things as the revolt below him in the silo has been picking up steam and his attempt to starve them out has failed. He realized that he has lost the sheriff, who is going to follow the law and not just blindly follow what he says.

Things are going to go crazy when Juliette is able to return to her original silo. It’s coming…
