EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of 2/19

It is another week of NEW COMICS from Comic World. It was not quite as large of a week as last week, but there are some great books.

Here are this week’s medalists….

Bronze Medalist

The Six Fingers #1

Cover Art by Sumit Kumar, Lee Loughridge, & Tom Muller

One of the new Image Comics books that fall into the shared universe of Neo Novena. Last week there was The One Hand. Now we have this mystery. The cover is really creative.

Silver Medalist

Deer Editor #2

Cover art by Sami Kivelä

Look at this cover. You have a deer-man tied to a chair with someone dressed in a nice outfit. I love the color scheme with the black and red and slight blue tint. Nicely done from this Madcave book.

Gold Medalist

Bone Orchard: Tenement #9

Cover Art by Andrea Sorrentino

Just look at that beautifully creepy cover. Worms and an apple. I love the color scheme too… and it looks very much like the gold medal that it was just awarded.

This was the second time Andrea Sorrentino placed on the medal stand (previously winning the silver medal for Tenement #8).

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of February 12

Three Marvel books in the medalists this week. There were some solid independent book covers too, but the finals are all excellent.

Bronze Medalist

Blade #8

Cover Art by Elena Casagrande & KJ Diaz

Blade is fighting against more than just vampires. How about some glowing green ghosts? This cover looks awesome with Blade standing like a bad ass.

Silver Medalist

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #2

Cover Art by David Finch

Khonshu is in the background as we get the mysterious new black suit ‘Moon Knight’ along with Hunter’s Moon. Great cover.

Gold Medalist

Fall of the House of X #2

Cover art by Pepe Larraz & Marte Gracia

Polaris in a green shine really stands out of the cover with the giant head of a sentinel (maybe?)

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of February 5

It is NEW COMIC BOOK DAY and that means we have the new winner of the EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week. Once again, I narrowed it down to about six choices before I decided on the medal winners.

Here we go…

Bronze Medalist

The Cull #5

Cover Art by Mattia De Iulis

The final issue of the five-issue mini series from Image.

Silver Medalist

Fantastic Four #17

Cover Art by Alex Ross

Another great cover by Alex Ross, but what really is what earned the silver medal was the cameo in the upper right hand corner of the cover from Indiana Jones himself! I was surprised when I saw him there. It also looks like Short Round’s hat there.

Gold Medalist

Star Wars: Mace Windu #1

Cover Art by Mateus Manhanini

Here is how I know this is the cover of the week. I do not collect any Star Wars titles. I like Star Wars but I am not interested in reading them. I saw this issue on the wall at Comic World and I saw the cover and I was immediately attracted to it.

I kept looking at it and finally moved over to look at it closer. I saw it was written by Marc Bernardin so that helped even more. The cover brought me in and helped me decide to buy this #1.

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

Week of January 29-Feb. 2

It is time once again to pick our medalists for the favorite covers of the week. I had narrowed the comics this week down to six contenders. That was better than last week, even with this being the fifth week of January.

Bronze Medal

Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Gang War #2

Cover Art by David Aja

Deadly Hands: Gang War #1 was a winner of this award last month and this time the cover makes the podium at the bronze level.

Silver Medal

Spine-Tingling Spider-Man #4

Cover Art by Juan Ferreyra

Another series that was a former winner of this award, Spine-Tingling has had some of the best covers of the year so far.

Gold Medal

Avengers Inc. #5

Cover Art by Daniel Acuña

The final issue of Avengers Inc. has one of the most interesting and beautifully designed covers. There is a raw feel to the art that really works for the series.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of January 22nd

I have made an adjustment to the Favorite Comic Cover of the Week. Starting this week, I will place a Top 3, giving a Bronze, a Silver and a Gold Medal for my favorite cover of the week.

BRONZE MEDAL WINNER

Boom! Studios

Slow Burn #4

Cover Art: Matt Taylor

Another great use of color gold and silver.

SILVER MEDAL WINNER

Image Comics

Bone Orchard: Tenement #8

Cover Art: Andrea Sorrentino

Love the design of the maze ahead of the face on the cover. The colors are a great blend too.

GOLD MEDAL WINNER

Marvel Comics

Resurrection of Magneto #1

Cover Art: Stefano Caselli & Jesus Aburtov

Variant Cover

Virgin Cover

This is an absolutely beautiful cover, using the negative space to show the red Magneto suit. This is the cover B of the new mini series from Marvel Comics.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of January 17th

This week’s EYG Comic Cover of the Week comes from an EYG Hall of Fame legend. Someone who specializes in doing amazing covers. Covers that are always painting quality, and this is the first time that this EYG Hall of Famer has won the cover of the week.

Fantastic Four #16

Cover art by Alex Ross

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of January 10th

This week’s comic cover of the week is also my favorite issue of the week because it is one of the most creative and original comic I have seen in a long time.

Swan Song #6

Cover art by Martin Morazzo

This is the final issue of this six-issue mini-series.

The cover itself, as well as the issue, is a parody of Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends poetry book and was a crossover with Ice Cream Man.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

Week of January 1st

I had three choices this week I had a tough decision on my hands.

Ghostlore #7

Boom! Studios

Cover Art by Reiko Murakami and Vincenzo Riccardi

Issue title: ”Babe at the Threshold

This week I have added two runners-up because both of these were close to actually taking the crown, and to be hones, I may look at them tomorrow and think that I made the wrong choice. Those runners-up were Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 (by David Finch) and Captain America #5 ( by Taurin Clarke).

And a special this week… Back-issue cover of the week.

I purchased several back issues today and my favorite cover of those were the following:

Deathlok #29

Cover art by Kevin Kobasic and Greg Adams

EYG Favorite Comic Book Cover of the Week

December

Comic Cover of the Week

Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1

This week’s cover of the week is part of the Gang War, the most recent Spider-Man storyline.

The cover art is by David Aja.

I love the aesthetic of this cover. The red, orange and black colors on the cover stand out beautifully. The images of Shang Chi and Spider-Man are unique and attractive.

EYG Favorite Comic Cover of the Week

We are starting a new weekly post this week. I have said a couple of times during the EYG Comic Cavalcade posts which cover I think is the best one of the week. So I thought that would be a cool weekly post instead of just leaving it in the Cavalcade.

By the way, this is my personal opinion of the favorite cover. I mean no offense to anyone but if you disagree, that is your right.

So…

2023

December

This week’s Favorite Cover comes from Image Comics.

The Deviant #2

It is the Cover A version

The cover art was done by Joushua Hixson

We get a shot of a Christmas tree with an old man staring down at a drink. The sinister Santa in the window behind. The black surrounding around the image on the cover really does a great job of creating a tone for this excellent book, written by James Tynion IV.
