TV or Movie: DTF St. Louis (Netflix mini-series)

Actor: David Harbour

Time of Death: March 1, 2026; Episode 1 “Cornhole“

Cause of Death: Overdose on pills leading to heart attack

As I am researching the information for this post, I am being very cautious, because I have not yet finished DTF St. Louis, which I am watching for the Sunday Morning Sidewalk. I am, at this time, only through four episodes, but I have seen enough to place Floyd Smernitch on my list of deaths. Floyd is one of the best characters I have seen on a TV show for awhile and he is played with such humanity by David Harbour, who won an Emmy for the role. As Jason Bateman, who played Floyd’s friend Clark, said, Floyd was “wonderful.”

Cigarette Smoking Man (X-Files)

TV or Movie: The X-Files

Actor: William B. Davis

Time of Death: ?? Season 11 finale, “My Struggle IV”

Cause of Death: gunshot

The question would be… which death are we talking about. I believe I can recall about three times CSM (real character name-Carl Gerhard Busch Spender) bit the big one. It sure seemed as if he was gone after the building he was hiding in was destroyed by black helicopters. BUT NO! Old Smokie came back for the revival. However, Fox Mulder shot him several times after CSM had shot and apparently killed Mulder’s son. The body fell into the water and was swept away so… was he dead?

There has been no character that I wanted Mulder to shoot in the head more than CSM. I do not know how many times I yelled at the TV screen for Mulder to shoot him in the head at a moment when Mulder had CSM at gunpoint and seemingly helpless. It just never happened.

President James Garfield (Death By Lightning)

Tv or Movie: Death By Lightning (Netflix mini series)

Actor: Michael Shannon

Time of Death: November 6, 2025

Cause of Death: severe sepsis (blood poisoning), internal hemorrhage, and heart failure, 79 days after being shot.

James Garfield was elected president of the United States in 1880 and then was shot by Charles Guiteau in July. Garfield lived until his death in September. Even with the gunshot wound, it took some medical malpractice with Garfield’s treatment that led to his death. The historical drama on Netflix was told through both grfield and Guiteau’s perspective and was a wonderful slice of politics of the time. Michael Shannon gave us a leader that transcended politics, something we desperately need in today’s world.

Nico, member of the Flag Smashers

TV or Movie: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Actor: Noah Mills

Time of Death: S1 E4 “The Whole World is Watching“

Cause of Death: Bludgeoned by Captain America’s shield

In one of most shocking and disturbing scenes in the entirety of the MCU, John Walker, who had just been named as the replacement for Steve Rogers as Captain America, used the edge of the shield to murder Nico, who was a member of the terrorist group The Flag Smashers. Just before this violent death, Flag Smasher leader Karli had accidentally killed Walker’s partner, Lemar Hoskins (Battlestar). This triggered the violent outburst from John Walker, who had just dosed himself up with the Super Soldier Serum. The sight of the blood at the bottom of Cap’s shield and th knowledge that he had probably decapitated the man was a brutal moment of the series.

Sazz Pataki (Only Murders in the Building)

TV or Movie: Only Murders in the Building

Actor: Jane Lynch

Time of Death: Only Murders in the Building S3 E10 “Opening Night“

Cause of Death: shot in the chest with a sniper rifle

Sazz Pataki was the stunt double for Charles Haden Savage for years. When Sazz was a murdered as the cliffhanger at the end of season three, it was a sad day because Sazz had been one of the most beloved recurring characters on the show. It also opened up one of the most emotional mysteries for the gang since Sazz was such a close friend to Charles. Jane Lynch appeared throughout season four as a delusion for Charles, as he processed his own grief as well as trying to solve the murder.

Sebastian (The Sheep Detectives)

TV or Movie: The Sheep Detectives

Actor: Bryan Cranston

Time of Death: May 8, 2026

Cause of Death: injuries sustained while fighting off vicious German Shepherds

Who would guess that a black Castlemilk Moorit ram would make the Top 100 TV & Movie list? Well, the film The Sheep Detectives was defying all kinds of expectations. It is one of my favorite movies of 2026, and I actual had tears falling form my eyes when Sebastian met his end fighting off a pack of dogs to save Lilly and Mopple. If he’d only had turned into a cloud.

Zoe Barnes (House of Cards)

TV or Movie: House of Cards

Actor: Kate Mara

Time of Death: House of Cards S2 E1 “Chapter 14”

Cause of Death: Pushed in front of oncoming subway train

This was an unbelievable shock in the season two premiere of Netflix’s House of Cards. Zoe Barnes was one of the top characters in season one, if not the main protagonists. Season two kicked off with Frank Underwood basically throwing her in front of a subway train. It took the streaming show to a completely different level.

A Cairo swordsman (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

TV or Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Time of Death: June 12, 1981

Actor: Terry Richards

Cause of Death: Gunshot

The story behind this death is as legendary as the scene itself. Harrison Ford was reportedly feeling sick on this day of shooting and did not want to go through the big sword fight that had been written. Ford went to Steven Spielberg and pitched an idea. The swordman would show up, spin his sword around, and Indy would take out his gun and shoot him. It is not only one of the best scenes of all-time, it told us so much about the character of Indiana Jones. We’ve seen lenghty sword fights before, but this left us with an impression unlike any other scene could.

Ginny Weedon and other Freezer Victims (Picket Fences)

TV or Movie: Picket Fences

Actor: Zelda Rubinstein; Richard Masur

Time of Death: Season 3, Episode 5, titled “Cold Spell” (aired October 28, 1994); (Season 3, Episode 11), titled “Freezer Burn,” which originally aired on January 6, 1995

Cause of Death: frozen in freezer

On Picket Fences, the beloved operator at the Rome Sheriff’s department, Ginny, was found dead in her freezer. A season later, the town investigated a possible serial killer who shoved his victims into a freezer. The running gag continued later in the series as recently elected mayor, Ed Lawson, was killed by his wife and his body was hidden in a freezer.

The dark, comedic tone of Picket Fences worked very well with this bizarre reoccuring incident.

Blain Cooper (Predator)

TV or Movie: Predator (1987)

Actor: Jesse Ventura

Time of Death: June 12, 1987

Cause of Death: the Jungle Hunter shoots him through the back and chest with a plasma energy weapon (shoulder cannon), leaving a massive, fatal hole in his torso

“I ain’t got time to bleed”

We kick off our brand new Daily Countdown with Jesse “The Body” Ventura, a former pro wrestler who, at the time, was a commentator in the WWE. In fact, the main reason I went to see Predator, the new film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was because of Jesse Ventura. I was sad that he was one of the first to go in the film, but he was one of the most memorable characters with people quoting him to this day.
