“The Twin Thing”

This week is Luke’s episode.

That is what I figured since each episode so far has focused on one of the Crain children. I did not know that Luke and Nellie were actually twins.

Luke has been in the background a lot so far. We knew about him being in recovery for an addiction and stealing from his siblings, but that is about it.

I have to say, this was the first time I thought of Steve as a dick. But watching him at the dinner when Luke brought Joey to his brother’s.

I wasn’t sure of the time frame until we get the scene between Luke and Steve when Luke was stealing his brother’s camera.

I have found Luke to be my favorite character of the show so far. The final line of the episode gave me chills as Luke, because of a twin thing, says that it wasn’t suicide. He could feel it.

It was also very spooky with the bowler hat man following Luke into adulthood, and outside of Hill House. Is it a wonder that Luke became an addict? The scene where the bowler hat man came right up to Luke and it turned into Nellie’s face, leading into the car’s headlights was just amazing. The fact that Luke was so cold and that his legs and arms were stiffening up told us how connected he was to his sister.

I really liked this episode and I felt the most connection to Luke of all of the children so far. His scenes in the Hill House were some of the creepiest of the series so far, with that one where Luke was under the bed being right up there.

I am anxious to see what the show will give us now that Luke knows his twin committed suicide (or did she?).

Sunday Morning Sidewalk #26

Spoilers

Week twenty-six of the Sunday Morning Sidewalk takes a bit of a turn as we start our first documentary series, a two-part show originally on A & E (which I watched on Disney +) featuring the EYG Hall of Fame rock band known as KISS.

The first episode of the series was about an hour and a half and outlined the early days of the band and their struggle to rise to the top of the record business, all the while struggling with their personal turmoil and behavior.

The doc heavily featured new interviews from Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, but only had archival footage or interviews with band members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley. There was a disclaimer that appeared in the documentary stating that Ace and Peter refused to participate in KISStory and did not agree with the presentation. That really triggered my curiosity. I knew that there had been issues between the band for years, especially with Ace and Peter, and I wanted to know why they refused to participate. Online, what I could find was that Ace and Peter refused because the amount of money offered was insultingly low and that they wanted final editing rights. I don’t know where that came from. Apparently, Peter Criss also refused to allow the song “Beth” to be used in the doc so that was in my head the entire time they were discussing the success of that song and how it helped propel the group upwards.

Peter and Ace were shown to have their own problems, specifically with alcohol and drugs, but I do not think it was done to the exclusion of the others. Gene spoke of his own issues, trying to put his ego aside while Paul spoke about plenty of his own troubles, including his anxiety over a birth defect he had with his ear. It did not feel like the doc piled on Ace and Peter. They definitely included how important they were to the band. Heck, even Gene and Paul admitted that the band’s sound did not come into focus until Ace came in to audition.

The feelings of the band were being made clear as they became more successful and started doing things like “KISS Meets the Phantom” or going more disco with “I Was Made for Loving You.” They addressed how some fans felt as if the group sold out as the success came fast. You could tell from the way Paul and Gene spoke about it that they felt much the same way, but they could not refuse it.

The clips from the Tom Snyder interview where Ace was clearly drunk were amazing. The looks on the faces of Gene and Paul were unmistakable and were painful to watch. The anger in their eyes was so obvious that anyone should have been able to see it.

The first episode ended with Ace’s announcement that he wanted to do solo work, and the band was definitely falling apart.

I truly would wish to have had more than just Paul and Gene’s voices in the doc, reflecting back on the history of this band. Peter and Ace’s absence 100% put a cloud over the documentary, even if it felt as if the doc did a good job of being balanced despite of their absence.

Next week will be part two of KISStory for the Sunday Morning Sidewalk and we’ll see where the band went from there.

Oil Planet

Oil planet.

Part 1.

I am making my own planet named oil planet.

It is a dark wet and not many people want to go there

to get some oil but they don’t want to get dirty

from all the oil. But one brave person named Easton.

He was scared to go but he still went.

NASA gave him a spaceship that can go anywhere.

And so he said his goodbyes and there he went.

He was half way and he was about to lose his oxygen tank.

His tank was gone now he was in full panicked mode

and now he had to get his 2nd  tank out but it

was now where to be found.

So now he was about to die

 And got the last tank.

Thank god it was where it should be and now he has a little bit of oxygen.

Now he was close to getting to the oil planet to

get some oil but then his spaceship exploded but luckily the

presser from the cab was too much so it was the only thing that

was okay.

But now he was about to land but then…

Part 2.

He saw some unimaginable things: people that aren’t people,

animals that aren’t animals.

They were like monsters but not monsters.

But the people that were up there were clown looking people.

So Easton got out of the ship and they all walked up

to him and said hello earthling.

And Easton said hello back but

they did not respond, they just gave him some oil and

walked back to their homes.

He did not know what just happened

but he is happy that they have left.

Now he had to get his oil and

leave so he did just that and got all the oil

he needed but the rocketship was gone.

He had to walk to the clowns and they had

it but they were trying to start it so he got

in with them and helped start it and they all went back to earth.

Football

Football

Coach screamed “go go  subs” . It was at the NFL Chiefs camp I was drafted and the 5 pick in the draft. I ran in and I was a QB, “Down set hiiik” I snapped the ball one of the D line break thru i scrambled to the right side of the field them i let it go it went flying

 Zip

I flew past everybody straight to Jim Hardy (one of our WRs). But at the last second, an interception that was my first day at the training camp, my first snap. I screamed in rage.

That night when I was about to leave the camp when the coach called me over I knew I was done for. He said “follow me we need to talk…”

When I arrived at the office he “said take  a seat”.

“Ok I know you are trying your best but we might have to cut you if you don’t lock in.”

I sat there for a minute or two before I broke the silence.

“ I really am trying to do my best but I…”

” DON’T CARE” said the coach “ YOU WILL GET CUT, FIGURE IT OUT.” he told me. I went into my car and drove out.

When I was driving home I was muttering to myself the whole time about how stuipd that

dream of mine was. To be in the NFL. I saw a gas station and decided to stop and get a snack and some gas. When I went in, I heard a lot of screams. I walked in and I said “What’s wrong?” That’s when I saw him, a short guy, 5 foot 6, mask, with a glock. I started panicking.

He said, “Go to the ground with your hands behind your back.”

 I went to the ground.

He said, “Give me your money.”

I said “no,”

He pointed the gun at me as I rolled out of the way. He fired again and missed his shot. I jumped up on him and he fell to the ground. I grabbed his gun and threw it to the side. Just as the cops came in and arrested the guy, they said thank you but next time not do that again.

I got into my car and drove home. I wasn’t really thinking about the chance of being cut off the Chiefs roster. I was just thinking about how I almost died. I was so busy thinking about that that I zoned out and wasn’t paying attention to the road. “BOOM” everything went black.

I woke up in the hospital and I screamed, “What is going on?”

The nurse came over and said, “You were hit by a deer while on the road.”

“Ok, I need to go to football practice. How long has it been?”

“About that… you might want to talk to your coach.”

I thought to myself, “Oh no, I got cut, didn’t I? Then the coach walked in with a worried look.

He said, “Tim we got a problem”

“What” I said.

 “Well it’s been 5 months.”

“ FIVE MONTHS!” I screamed. I looked outside and I saw it was fall outside.

“And even worse” said the coach.

 “What could be possibly worse?”

 “Jones has been injured”

 “ Oh crap”

“Yep,” said the coach, “we need you to play and you’ve been in a coma for 5 months.”

The next day I went to practice and everybody was depressed. I knew what they were thinking, “We are cooked.”

When the coach said “starters,” he didn’t sound happy. I went out very nervously. I snapped the ball. I was very rusty and I almost dropped it. I scrambled down to the 10 yard line for a first down. This was my chance to prove myself. Down, set, “hike” . I snapped the ball and I saw an opening. I let it fly, straight dot to his chest

“ Touchdown,” said the coach, smiling.

My other teammates were shocked alright Everybody said the coach practice is over we all went home the next day was the first game.

I woke up early in the morning and drove to  practice. We warmed up and drove to the Bronco stadium. We didn’t win since 2025 with Patrick Mahomes now in 2100 we had not been in a Super Bowl since then so when we arrived we warmed up then the announcer said let the game begin and I went on the field and said “hiiik”

Worst Car Crash in NASCAR

Worst Car Crash in NASCAR

By Trisha Payless

I saw the crowd roar in joy. I smile getting into my car. I look at my opponent. I heard a gunshot and the race was off. I was three laps in and I saw two cars on my side. I see them getting closer.

BOOM!

I was in the air. I saw the sky and then the ground over and over. The ground upside down. People yelling.

“MICK! MICK! SOMEBODY  HELP.” Ben yelled. Ben was my brother.

I heard the ambulance there, but I couldn’t see it. The race was stopped. They tried and tried to get me out, but they noticed I had a broken neck, arm, and leg. They did the Jaws of Life on the car to get me out. It took 40 – 50 seconds to get me out. They put a neck brace on my neck and put me on a bodyboard. They put me in the ambulance and took me to the hospital with my brother. Twenty minutes later my brother and I made it to the hospital.

They performed emergency surgeries. Six hours after I got done with my surgery, I was in a hospital bed with my wife by my side and my daughter on my other side.  Ben was standing at the end of my bed.

“Dad?” said Angel. She is his daughter.

“Yeah”

“ Are you going to be healed for my wedding?”

“ I don’t know but I hope I am.”

The next day I had to go do another surgery. I went in and my wife and Angel stayed in the room.  My wife was praying when I went in. Five hours later I got out and I was in my room asleep. My wife was holding my hand. Angel had her head on my shoulder.

Two weeks later I got out of the hospital. My wife was driving Angel and me home from the hospital. When we got home the TV was on and President Trump was speaking. I sat on the couch with my wife. It got later and my wife started to make dinner. I was sitting on the couch watching her cook.

“What are you making?” said Mick.

“Chicken tacos.”

“Okay.”

After dinner, my wife and I are sitting in bed. My wife is setting up an appointment for me. I fell asleep with her. The next day my neighbors were over and their little girl was coloring my cast on my arm. I smiled down at her remembering my daughter when she was little. I knew at that moment I was going to walk my daughter down the aisle.

Six weeks later I was in physical therapy and I was doing well. I was working really hard to get healed for my daughter’s wedding.  I worked every day. My arm was healed. I was still having trouble walking. I kept pushing through and never gave up. I had too much that I still wanted to do in my career, and I knew my daughter wanted me to keep going.

After my therapy session, I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife. When she got in the car we went to Taco Bell to get lunch. We got our food and went home. When we got home, she helped me in my wheelchair to the house. After I finished my food. I moved to the living room and sat on the couch turning on the TV.  My wife sat down with me. I put my arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to me. I was thankful to have her.

Three weeks before my daughter’s wedding, my wife went dress shopping today and I stayed at home with Ben and my daughter’s fiance. We were watching football. Five hours laters the girls came back from dress shopping.  I pulled my daughter into the other room.

“Princess I don’t think I can walk at your wedding I am so sorry”

“It is okay Dad, I understand.” she said, looking at the ground.

The wedding day came, and everyone was getting ready. My wife was by my side. I was shaking in my wheelchair. Everyone started to fill the seats. I sat there listening to the birds sing thinking how beautiful this day was. I waited at the end of the aisle. As my daughter approached, she knelt down to me.

“Do you want Uncle Ben to push you?”  she whispered.

I grabbed the arms of the wheelchair and slowly stood up.

“No I got it” I looked at her and smiled. “Let’s go,” I said softly.

With tears streaming down both of our faces, I walked my daughter down the aisle.
