Anchors Away

For my 14th birthday I was surprised with going on a cruise with just my mom and I. I had to fly to Miami and stayed in a hotel right on the beach. When we got to the hotel we went and walked on the beach. The sand was so hot and the edge of the ocean was full of seaweed. After that we spent the rest of the afternoon sleeping because we had to be up really early in the morning.

Then the next day we boarded the ship early. Once we got on the ship we looked around to see what was on it. The things that were on it were a shopping area/ eating places, on the top deck was 4 pools and mini golf, there was an arcade, water slides, and a water wave pool. There was also a basketball court on the top deck.

We got lunch and we went swimming  on the top deck of the ship. After a few hours our room was ready and we went to see what it looked like. In our room we had a balcony. After we saw our room and unpacked everything  we watched from our balcony  the ship took off. When the ship took off you could feel the vibration of the motor. When we took off you could see little fish swim away from underneath the ship. Once the ship took off  we got ready for dinner and for every meal except breakfast I had chicken strips and fries. At our first dinner I watched from my chair Miami get smaller and smaller. It was so pretty because when we took off it was becoming night and the sunsets were so beautiful the whole week.  

After eating and watching the ship take off my mom told me that people hide ducks around the ship so we spent the next hour after dinner finding rubber ducks and hiding them for others to find. I brought back so many and hid so many as well. After looking for the ducks and hiding them we went to look at all the shops. My mom also heard about how everyday you could
collect charms  and make a bracelet out of them.

The first day we got the actual bracelet part and 5 charms the next day and the day after we didn’t get them because we forgot about it, but the lady who was giving them out gave us the ones for those days and the day we went there. 

The next morning we woke up in the Bahamas. There was also one other ship besides ours docked at the island.   When we woke up we got ready for the day ahead and ate breakfast. By the time we got done eating breakfast we looked out the window and saw their private island CoCo Cay.

When we got to the island we looked at getting my hair braided but it was too hot and too expensive.  We went to our room to put on swimsuits and wait for the announcement ordering us to get off the ship and explore the island. When we got off the ship we went to get our stuff to go snorkeling. While snorkeling I saw big conch shells, little cute fish, seaweed, and lots of other shells. The water was so blue and clear you wouldn’t believe it. 

We went shopping around the island and when we got too hot we went to the pool on the lagoon. After we were cooled off we took a tram around the island and we talked to the driver and he was super nice. The driver told us that they would stay on the island for 3 months at a time. He also said that for hurricanes they would still stay on the island. There was also a level 5 hurricane coming our way. My mom was watching it the whole time and was going to get there 2 days after we were back home. Once we got back to the ship we went and laid down.

After we laid down for a while we went back out on the island and snorkeled again. We didn’t snorkel for long because it was high tied for the second round and was too deep for me and the waves kept hitting my face.  After we got back on the ship my mom and I watched the ship take off from the private island. While we took off the sunset was so beautiful. We went and cleaned up for dinner and headed down to dinner. After dinner we went to the arcade and got ducks from the duck machine and hid them around the ship. We also looked for ducks and found new places for some while hiding our ducks.  

Before going to bed, we would stand on the balcony to look out onto the ocean.  We did see other ships and we would try and guess what ones the ships were. At night you could still see how blue the water was. We would also sit out on the balcony and listen to the waves. We would watch on our tv how fast we were going. The first night we were going 5 knots. The second night we were going 7 knots. Finally last night we were going 25 knots.  We would also go to the 5th level where all the shops and restaurants were and fill our cups with some kind of drink before bed or whenever we needed a drink unless we went to a restaurant or somewhere that had drinks. We had a drink package and we could get any drink we wanted. That also meant we could go to Starbucks and get any kind of drink we wanted any time of day.  

Also every night there would be a band playing on the 5th level. When we went to get off and on the ship the people did not speak English they spoke Spanish. My mom tried to help this one family that could not speak or understand English. 

The next day we arrived in Nassau, Bahamas and took a faerie to Blue Lagoon Island. On the island we had a pass to swim with dolphins. The dolphins were so well trained and so smart. I got to hug, kiss, dance, and was pushed across the lagoon by the dolphin. After we got to swim with the dolphins we went and looked at the shops on the lagoon. We went swimming in the ocean part of the lagoon. When I was swimming in the ocean I had goggles and I was looking for shells. I was also seeing if I could touch the deeper part of that area. Once we were done swimming we went to get back on the fairies and we saw a little crab while waiting to get on the faerie. On our way back the drivers of the faerie were playing music and people were dancing. 

We got to see famous peoples houses along the ocean. One of the celebrity’s houses I saw was Beyonce’s house. When we arrived at the drop off station they said we need our ids or passports.  When we got there my mom didn’t have hers and they were going to let me go through all by myself. But luckily my mom had a picture of her passport from when she went to Australia. When she found it she was so relieved because the security guard wouldn’t let my mom enter with me and was going to let me go to the ship alone then she remembered she had that picture. 

After  that all happened we went to our room and got all cleaned up to go to dinner and rest. After dinner we went to the top deck and played mini golf. We also went to a game show about finishing the lyrics.  When they asked for contestants I pounded at my mom and said “ she wants to do it! ” When they heard me say it they said “ ok get up here! ” When we got done with the game show we went to get a milkshake and to go to the arcade. We also swam in the top deck pool a lot and watched movies in the pool.  We also met these very nice ladies on our flight from Atlanta to Miami and we ran into them multiple times on the cruise. 

The next day we were back in Miami and we had to be off the boat at 8 am. We got an uber and went to the airport early to try and get an earlier flight out. We spent the entire day in the delta sky lounge. We tried to get on 3 different flights other than our original flight. Our fight also got delayed 3 different times. When we got on our flight we sat next to this really nice lady and she was going to Argentina and was bringing caviar with her. Me and my mom got to sit first class on all 4 of our flights because of my moms delta points. In first class we got lots of yummy snacks and drinks. Our layover was in Atlanta and we got to our gate just as they were starting to board. The reason why we were getting there when they were starting to board was because the flight from Miami to Atlanta was on the other side of the airport. We got on the plane and my mom and I fell asleep the whole flight and woke up 30 minutes before landing.  In the 30 minutes I was awake we went through a lightning storm and it looked so cool. There was a lot of turbulence but it wasn’t too bad.  When we landed the lights were so bright and came on so quick and I wasn’t prepared at all. After we got off the plane we went to baggage claim and stood there for a long time. When we got our luggage we went to the bathroom and then we went to our car. By the time we got home it was 12 am and I was so tired that I went straight to bed. After waiting for a week we got all the pictures from all the tourers and other stuff we did on the cruise. Overall I would recommend going on a cruise with family and friends or just by yourself. Don’t hesitate to go if you ever get to go on one. It was the best thing ever and I would definitely go on one again. Don’t be scared of going on one. It isn’t that scary at all, in fact it was amazing. You get to see and do all these amazing opportunities. The staff is so nice and they kept the cruise very clean and not dirty at all. The food was also delicious. I think I would like to try more things than I did but it was still so fun. One thing that I didn’t like was that I couldn’t use my phone because there was no internet. The only thing you could do on your phone was text, call, and take pictures.  I am also so grateful that I got to go and love my mom. She surprised me and I had so much fun.

My mom has always tried to do more experiences than presents. The reason she does this is because memories are more important than things. She has taken my sister on trips like this but she likes more sports than I do so she got to go to the sweet 16 in Seattle for her 14th birthday in 2023 as well and got to meet Monika Czinano. She also has been taking us on Christmas breaks for our presents since 2017. It has always been different places except we went to Daytona beach twice. We went to Galveston Texas which we had to leave a day early and drove from Galveston to Des Moines because our flight was cancelled because of an ice storm and my mom didn’t want to be stuck in Texas. We have also been to St. Pete Beach. We also went to Hilton Head Beach which is where I got to hold alligators. When we were in St. Pete  we walked 2 miles down the beach from a restaurant to our hotel. In Daytona we got to see manatees and I got to hold a jellyfish. At night we would also walk along the beach and we saw little and big jelly fish along the water that were washed up on the beach. We would also look for shells and my sister and I would give them to friends, teachers, and family members. We would drive on the beach in Daytona. We also saw a lot of peers and they were cool. 

Overall I would recommend going on a cruise with family and friends or just by yourself. Don’t hesitate to go if you ever get to go on one. It was the best thing ever and I would definitely go on one again. Don’t be scared of going on one. It isn’t that scary at all, in fact it was amazing. Unicorn Park

Unicorn Park 

Today I was on my way to find Unicorn Park. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep the night before. When I was on my way to find Unicorn Park, I had to stop at the store to buy marshmallows, donuts, and sprinkles. 

After I left the store I accidentally ate the marshmallows and donuts. So I went to another store and they were out of marshmallows and donuts, so I went to another one and they had a whole bunch and I got some for the unicorns and myself so I wouldn’t eat them all before I found Unicorn Park. 

Then I finally found Unicorn Park! I was so happy when I saw the unicorns! After I was done jumping up and down I went to give them my marshmallows and the donuts and they loved them. After I fed them the marshmallows and donuts, I set up camp, since I was planning on staying there for a week enjoying life without any worries. That night I was eating with the unicorns and the other creatures that were in the park such as bunnies, unicorns, goats,  and friendly little bears. We heard a weird noise coming from the entrance of the park. So we went to see what the noise was and more people came to find the park just like how I was looking for Unicorn Park.   When I saw the other people coming I was so excited because I had more people to make friends with! After a week it was time to head back home. I was so sad to leave that I am planning to come back next month. A month later I am heading back and staying for two weeks along with the people I met the first time.

Sunday Morning Sidewalk #36

“Rewind 1921”

After a short respite on a Friday morning last week, we are back on Sunday morning, BABY!

I went to SiouxperCon last week in South Dakota, which meant that I had to miss a Sunday morning. Instead, I did the Sunday Morning Sidewalk #35 on a Friday morning.

Back on Sunday, I watched the penultimate episode of Lovecraft Country, “Rewind 1921.”

Time travel is always tough, but this trip back to the Tulsa race massacre of 1921 was impeccably done. It brought us back around to a scene from the first episode that featured Jackie Robinson and made it make sense with what our current story is.

Atticus, Leti and Montrose travel through the portal to 1921, thanks to the returning Hippolyta, in search of the Book of Names, in order to save Diana. What they find is horror and loss in a brutal manner as the Tulsa race massacre was in full nightmare.

Montrose, especially, had to go through his own personal anguish, as they witnessed his father beating him with a switch. Montrose went to see the death of a boy that he had had feelings for and, all the while, Montrose knew that he could not do anything to change what happened.

To find out that it was Atticus all along who showed up and saved Montrose and George (aka Jackie Robinson) was one of those wild time travel things that brings everything full circle.

It was an emotional, powerful, painful episode looking back at how these characters were affected by this tragic event in American history.

Leti went through it as well, as she found the Book of Names as the house burned down around her, including Dora’s grandmother, who had given her the book just before horrifically burning to death in front of her.

The episode ended with our heroes clearly affected, but back in their own timeline.

I have a feeling that next week’s finale is not going to provide the satisfactory conclusion I hope as I had heard the show left off on a cliffhanger and it has never been renewed. I hope it is a cliffhanger that is designed to create something new and not one to continue this story moving forward.

Daily Countdown: TV Shows #100

This is the first post for the new Daily Countdown on EYG. We will be counting down a list with a new post every day until we reach #1.

As I stated yesterday, the TV Show list is our first countdown. I had made a list of shows that I wanted to consider during the history of TV and I had to cut quite a few great shows.

Here are the list of shows I cut from the list: Perfect Strangers, The A-Team, Three’s Company, Malcolm in the Middle, Desperate Housewives, Doctor Who, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Animaniacs, White Lotus, One Piece (live action), The Wonder Years, Silo, Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched, The Carol Burnett Show, Family Ties, Revenge, Land of the Lost, Gilligan’s Island, The Andy Griffith Show, Home Improvement, Poker Face, Baywatch, Unsolved Mysteries, Mindhunter, The Studio, Get Smart, Orphan Black, Dexter, Bosom Buddies, and Man from Atlantis.

Quite a eclectic list, huh?

I should also state that there are some beloved shows that I have never seen so shows such as The Sopranos, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Game of Thrones, The Wire, OZ and so on will not be on my list despite their universal popularity.

With that said, here we go with the first post of the Daily Countdown: TV Shows.

The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams

Starring Dan Haggerty as Grizzly Adams, Denver Pyle as Mad Jack, Don Shanks as Nakoma, and Bozo as Ben the Grizzly Bear.

They call me Mad Jack. And if there’s anybody in these mountains that knows the real story of James Adams, that’d be me. So I’m putting it down in writing, just the way it happened, in hopes of settin’ the record straight. My friend Adams was accused of a crime he didn’t commit. So he escaped into the mountains, leaving behind the only life that he ever knew. Now that wilderness out there ain’t no place for a greenhorn, and his chances of survivin’ were mighty slim. Weren’t no time at all ‘for he was beaten down, ragged and nearly starved. Long about then, he come upon a grizzly bear cub, all alone and helpless. Now Adams knew that little critter couldn’t survive without his help, so he started right down that cliff, riskin’ his own life… to save it. Heh Heh Heh heh heh. Now that cub took to Adams right off, and that was when he discovered that he had … a special kind of way with animals. They’d just come right up to him like he was a natural part of the wilderness. But that bear cub, he was extra special. As he growed, he became the best friend Adams ever had and, together, they became a legend.

This voice over opening by Denver Pyle was one of the most memorable part of the show Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, which was a syndicated show that was based on a movie from 1974 with the same title. The show ran for two seasons and had only 37 episodes, which was a lot fewer than I thought.

I remember watching this every Sunday morning. It was always so enjoyable and so hearty. I loved Mad Jack. I loved Mad Jack’s burro Number Seven. Adams and Jack’s relationship was great. It felt like a group of heroes living in the wilderness.

What a greenhorn.

And number 100 is The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.

Sunday Morning Sidewalk #28

“Sundown”

Oh, I am in!

What a kick off to the next show for the Sunday Morning Sidewalk. The only problem is I now have to wait until next Sunday to watch the next episode.

Lovecraft Country was a series that was on HBO, a horror, historical fantasy, drama that centered around the writings of author H.P. Lovecraft.

Starring Jurnee Smollett, Courtney B. Vance and Jonathan Majors, the show had one heck of a debut episode.

Majors played Atticus “Tic” Freeman, a young man who had served in the Korean War. He returned to his home in Chicago when he found out that his father had gone missing.

Going by his uncle George Freeman’s home, Atticus shared a letter that his father had sent him about Ardham, Massachusetts. With a little investiagtion, Atticus discovered this city was in the middle of Devon County, which was an area where H.P. Lovecraft had supposedly set many of his horror tales.

George writes for a black guide book (much like the movie Green Book) so Atticus, George and Letitia “Leti” Lewis, an old friend who was hitching a ride to her brother’s home, took off to this county.

They stopped for some food, only to be chased away by gun toting yokels who did not want black people eating in their diner. This was a tense and anxiety-filled scene as the locals shot at them with rifles. It is amazing that such hatred exists in the United States that there are people who think this kind of behavior was ever okay.

A mysterious silver sedan caused the yokel’s car to flip over and a enigmatic white woman came out from the car. Atticus had heard that his father had left Chicago in a silver sedan, so everything seemed to be tying together.

In Devon County, the trio was in the woods looking for an access road, when the racist sheriff came upon them. He told them that they were in a sundown county where any blacks out after sundown would be considered dangerous and he would have to do something about it. What followed was a real tense, horrific scene where Atticus desperately tried to get their car across the county line before the sun went down, unable to speed because the sheriff followed behind, waiting to pull them over for any infraction.

Making the county line, they came to a police roadblock, realizing that the race to the border was irrelevant. As they were face down and about to be lynched, monsters came from the woods and began attacking the cops. These creatures were shoggoths, monsters found in Lovecraft work.

In the end, Atticus, George and Leti found themselves at a mansion in the woods, where they are greeted kindly by a white at the door.

The scene with the shoggoths and the cops was really intense and bloody. You had no idea what was going to happen, although it was awesome to see that racist piece of crap sheriff get his during the scene.

The episode started with a dream Atticus was having involving UFOs, monsters and what looked like Cthulhu. Of course, there was also Jackie Robinson(?). I was in immediately. I love the air of mystery and the unexpected nature of the show. I can’t wait to see where this goes from here.

Building the horrors of segregation into a story with J.P. Lovecraft’s work at the center is ironic, considering Lovecraft was known to be a racist himself. Tying that all together creates a powerful dynamic that will help drive this story, hopefully through the rest of the series. There are plenty of secrets floating around (who was that that Atticus called in South Korea?) and these add such a great color to the plot.

Next Sunday can’t get here soon enough. I was a little nervous about committing to Lovecraft Country for the Sunday Morning Sidewalk as there were ten episodes, which will encompass over two months to finish. At this point, I am thrilled with the choice.

Going to Venus

Part 1

 I went to space it was a delight but when I got there it was a fright 

I landed on venus plucked some grapes ate them up and maybe some tape

I went to explore and was very adored 

I saw some kids playing with toys and made me think of little boys 

They were playing with a seesaw and it made me beatbox 

My partner antonio tried to go to romio 

These words can’t describe the delight but a one word could be fright 

Antonio and I saw some things it was very weird 

He wanted to go to jupiter but if he went he’d get stupider we stayed on venus and he became the meanest 

My grace was taken just like brace taken off I no longer want to be here but I won’t be sent off

On venus here I am to this day and i’m starting to want to stay i’ve seen some things it was pretty scary but antonio started looking hairy 

Antonio said come on brad go find your dad 


Part 2 

These weird people came to my planet and I know they aint it 

I need to find away for them to stay before the vanish away 

They won’t be here much longer so we need to make venus stronger 

You may pay to live another day 

I will steal your rocket key for you to find peace 

Me as an alien I’ve found a way to make these ugly people stay 

I went on the rocket took some food chewed it up like pizza hut 

It would be crude to not be nude 

I plucked some grapes and planting tape

I needed some help so I went to yelp 

I saw this guy named Mr. Fuss and he definitely wasn’t a bus 

He came off the rocket but antonio had to block him

These people were walking around and exploring but 

that one astronaut was adoring 

These people are weird and they need to stay i wouldn’t want them to vanish away

They are starting to like my planet venus it is i like it to don’t be rude i’ll tell you to 

This weird man named antonio looked very hairy 

There’s a code blue and I’m a slug alien too!

My Trip to Uranus

Part one

I am an astronaut headed off to uranus.

I was excited for us.

We went on a rocket ship

For our very long trip.

Braelynn and me 

Had some tea.

But we hit asteroids
They looked like they were on steroids.

They spilled our tea 

So we were gonna flee.

We wanted to go home

But I fell asleep and dreamt of a gnome.

I woke up and looked outside and saw a star

The star was very far.

The oxygen was low

And the wind started to blow.

We saw the asteroids again 

So I locked my dog in a pen.

We had to sacrifice our dog

Because he was an oxygen hog.

He breathed very heavy

He belonged in a chevy.

My friend Braelynn 

Likes to spin.

Her brother Koda 

Wants a soda.

But we were out

And he started to pout.

We had hotdogs

We ate them like hogs.

Braelynn had a friend named Bailey

She brushed her hair daily.

She smelled like aroma

It smelled so good I almost went into a coma.

We could see the planet

So I put on a jacket.

I looked out my window

And saw a black widow.

We landed on the big blue planet

And we jumped out like a rabbit.

Part Two     

What is that big thing 

It landed on Uranus with a ting.

We are mad

We think they are bad.

They hopped out on to our dirt

I think their name is burt.

One said their name is Braelynn

We ate her as she started to spin.

The other one cried 

So we fried

Her up.

And the last one threw up.

We are spidermen

We do not have women.

The one tries to shoot us 

On our planet uranus.

She jumped into her big thing

With a ting.

We tried to catch them

We stood still like a stem.

They flew away

Like they were in may.

I stood right under the big thing 

That said ting.

There was a bright light 

And I went night night.

The Scary Adventures

The Scary Adventures

Part one:

I am an Astronaut headed off to Uranus. 

Uranus looks like a big blueberry. 

My trip is very scary!

My oxygen stopped working. 

But then it came back,

which is good because I about had a heart attack.  

I then saw an asteroid. 

After I saw a bus

and on it was Mr. Fuss.

My trip is very scary! 

The window started cracking,

but why did my computer start hacking?

My friend was along but I don’t know why.  

His name is Miguel,

and has a twin sister named Michelle.

My trip is very scary!

Turns out Michelle had mice,

and they gave me all her lice! 

I am just about to Uranus. 

I am about to land,

in the soft sand.              

I’m so excited.

I started smiling out my window.

Then I saw a black widow.

We landed safe and sound. 

I hope I have fun 

in the sun

My trip is very scary!

Part 2:

What is this big thing landing on Uranus?

We need to attack once they land,

so they dont ruin our sand!

Us spideys need to think of a plan!

Lets shoot them with our spidey web.

Hopefully they don’t show their biceps. 

Nothing to be scared of,

They look like wimps.

But they better not steal my shrimp.

What are these things? 

We need to attack!

Hopefully we give them a heart attack. 

Spidey on three! 

One, Two, Three… Spidey!

These people are not very tidey. 

They are coming after us!

It’s fine they look like a wimp.

But they better not steal my shrimp.

We got them trapped, 

but it wasn’t for long.

They started singing a song. 

Their singing is so bad.

Oh no they got out of the web,

and they showed their biceps! 

They started running after something.

It was my shrimp!

Turns out they are not wimps!

Sunday Morning Sidewalk #6

“Bastogne”

As we start the second half of the season, the soldiers of Easy Company are in bad shape. The defense of the Belgium city of Bastogne was part of the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the most important moments of the war.

One of the key parts to this episode was the focus on the character Eugene Roe, the medic with the group. The horrors he had to endure in an attempt to keep the soldiers of his company in one piece was devastating. I was always a fan of the TV show MASH, but this took the realism to an all new level with the injuries and the blood. It truly gave a portrait of a man trying to hold his own self together to do what he could for the wounded.

Eugene met up with a nurse in the town of Bastogne, Renee. They connected over their efforts to save people and their wartime moments were the sole peace in this episode. Sadly, I knew what was destined to happen here, as Renee appeared to have died in a German bombing run on Bastogne (although no body was found).

Eugene went through the mental wringer in this episode, but the final moments with him seemed to indicate that he was going to make it through. He had slowly been starting to become like a zombie, but the final moment in a foxhole with Heffron, who he calls by his nickname “Babe” which was significant because Eugene did not use the nicknames before.

One of the more haunting moments of the episode came when there was a lull in fighting and the Germans could be heard singing “Silent Night” in German from out of their locations in the woods. Since it was Christmastime, this little bit of singing humanized the Germans, reminding us that they were just people fighting for their side, even if the Nazi Party was completely evil.

Another brutally powerful episode of this mini-series. Just four more weeks to go for this series in the Sunday Morning Sidewalk.

The White Lotus S2 E1

“Ciao”

I started the second season of The White Lotus on HBO MAX and we found ourselves in Italy. I discovered that the White Lotus is a franchise across the globe. And, just like last season, we started off with a dead body. Actually, several of them in an apparent drowning.

Once again, the show started off in present day and then flashed back a week in the past to show how they got there.

We get a whole new crew of guests arriving on the boat. Well, not completely new as Jennifer Coolidge resumed her role as Tanya McQuoid, who was meeting her husband, Greg Hunt, who was also reprising his role from season one, at the hotel. Tanya does not seem happy with her life.

Audrey Plaza joined the cast this season. She is always great so I am excited to see where her character goes.

Much of this episode was spent just slowly getting to know this group of people. The hook at the beginning with the bunch of dead bodies definitely is a strong start. We’ll see how things go from here.

A day late, but not a dollar short (Todd took away my four dollars, but that is a long story). So I did not have to go to Comic World twice this week, I waited for Thursday instead of Wednesday. It also helped that there was some snow in the weather. I definitely made the correct decision.

“Sometimes a Great Notion”

“A Disquiet Follows My Soul”

So much is happening.

In Revelations, there is a tense showdown between the Cylons and the Humans. D’anna wants the four of the five Cylons brought to them and Lee wants the Cylons to release their hostages.

The four were revealed to everyone and it led to some major frustration for Adama.

Starbuck, on a tip from Tyrol and Anders, figured out that a specific Viper had a destination programmed into it and she guessed that it was to earth.

The Galactica and the Cylons, in an alliance, found earth only to discover that it was a nuclear wasteland.

In Sometimes a Great Notion, the crew explored the ruined earth.

They discovered that the 13 Tribe was a tribe of Cylons.

Starbuck recovered her own corpse in her own ship, crashed on the earth. What does that mean? What does that make Kara who is living right now? She burned her corpse.

Roslin and Adama both wound up in a downward spiral from the failure of earth. Adama boozing it up and Roslin rejecting her medical care.

Adama, drunk and angry, stormed to Tigh’s room and tried to get him to kill him. It was a tense scene that felt out of place. Adama has been fairly inconsistent during this time. Not sure how this worked.

Dualla goes out and has a great date night with Lee and then kills herself with a gunshot to the head. Wha????

Then we find out that Ellen Tigh was the fifth Cylon. That revelation was fairly flat for me.

Finally, in “A Disquiet Follows My Soul,” more craziness with Adama and Roslin. They end up in bed together at the end of the episode. Hopefully a good Frack will straighten these two up because they are really needed to get back into their roles.

Tom Zarek is back to his machinations and he is teaming up with the angry and vengeful Gaeta. This was after Gaeta had a bitter throwdown with Kara, with neither of them holding back.

Tyrol’s son has a kidney problem and Tyrol rushed him to the doctor. This was where he learned that the little boy was not his son. Cally was unsure who the father was and, after the wedding, it was not Tyrol. I’m not sure why that was done, unless it was just to screw with Tyrol more.

Turns out the father was Hot Dog and Tyrol beat him up at Baltar’s speech that was so much negative and darkness.

Darkness is a good description for these last two episodes.

As I look through the window, I see tall pine trees rushing past my view. Through a clearing of foliage, I see a clear water lake, looking almost like a mirror, reflecting the mountains and the cool blue sky almost hidden behind the trees. My friend and I had been on a journey around the country and were passing by Washington so we decided to visit Canada for the Whistler mountains, as they inhabited a famous mountain bike park.

“We’re leaving Seattle right now, just a few more minutes.” Parker said, clearly tired from driving for so long. “We are passing by Everett right now.  Fifty-seven minutes till we’re at Bellingham, then we’ll find a hotel somewhere around there”  

Once we were there, we decided to stay at some place called ‘Hotel Leo.’  Above the front door, there were almost convincing gold colored letters that read ‘The Leopard’. 

Stepping in, I realized why this place was worth the cost. The walls were painted a relaxing coyote brown, the floors were cool, tan and grey tiles. 

“Come on Jake, let’s get checked in and go upstairs, I want to go to bed.” Parker let out as he moped his way around me. 

“Tomorrow I’ll drive again, so that you don’t have to deal with navigating into Canada, then I’ll get us to North Vancouver so we can stop at another hotel and drop off our stuff before we head out for Whistler.” I said enthusiastically. At this point Parker had gone up to the front desk and grabbed our keys.

“I got us in, let’s go.” Parker say’s with a yawn, His face almost covered by his usual grey sweatshirt, along with some jeans. As we were walking to the elevator, we passed an all white statue, elevated by black cushioned leather seats. 

“Come on Jake.”  Parker spoke as I hurriedly jogged to the elevator. The elevator looked like any other elevator, but only on the inside. The outside doors were covered with wood that had unique designs engraved into it. 

“Which floor?” I asked once I was inside, turning toward the buttons while still trying to juggle my luggage on my back.

“Number three.” I shifted so that I could reach the buttons and press the three. I leaned up against the side of the elevator as the doors shut behind us. 

After a few seconds I asked Parker “So, do you want to grab breakfast somewhere in the morning or wait till we’re there to eat?” I said when the doors finally opened to our floor, Parker immediately started to shuffle out the elevator.

“When we’re there.” Parker spoke. Walking toward what I assumed to be the way to our room. In the hotel room, there was a small kitchen area, maybe able to space two people, complete with an oven, sink, stove, and some cabinets. Opening the cabinets I saw a toaster ready to be plugged in. In another cabinet, there were a couple glasses and fragile looking bowls. Off to the side of the kitchen there was a small table probably able to fit three people, if you really wanted to. There were two sets of black plates with tea cups placed on top. Over in the bedroom side of the room, there were two blank white beds. Facing them was a small tv on a short wood stand. 

“G’night” Parker said, skulking into the room and belly flopping into the farthest bed. I shut the door, locking it of course, and noticed the bathroom right where the door must’ve been when it was open. I walked over to my bed and got in, relaxing and waiting for the morning.

I woke up to Parker shouting “Let’s go!” and “Come on, we’re late!”. I looked at the digital clock next to me to see it read 11:27 AM. 

“Oh, shoot!” I started too. “Weren’t we supposed to leave at seven? Did your alarms not go off?”

“Must not have, I don’t know. I got woken up by the room service outside the door.” Parker said frustrated. Once Parker and I got out the door we had to get fast food and bolt. Chowing it down like our life depended on it when we were getting in the van. Me in the front seat, Parker in the back checking the map. 

“ We’ve got another hour and a half, we will probably arrive at around one twenty.” Parker spoke, picking up a fry from the bag. I got the van started and was blasting the heat because of the cold of Canada.

Once there, we decided to stay at the Whistler Cascade Lodge. We were pre-checked in and ran up to our room, navigating through the college-like building. We could only hope they would let us in due to how late we were. After dropping our stuff in the room, we went out to meet with kids we remembered from school for the rest of the day. 

Waking up in the morning we noticed a very thin sheet of snow on the ground. Deciding to ignore it, we got dressed and set off for the bike park. When we got to the bike park and met with some friends, we went on a few trails that weren’t blocked due to the snow like ‘Upper EZ does It’, and ‘World Cup Single Track’.

We hit trails with table tops and berms, even ramps and platforms made from pure wood. The wood was slightly slippery which meant less traction, but more speed. Meaning we would be able to reach the tops of the ramps easier.

“Guys, a double black diamond just opened up, Lower Joyride. Wanna go hit it?” One of the guys spoke up, off to the side of the group. 

“If you all are up for the challenge,” The front person said, he must have been from around here.

The group of course agreed to it all, except I was a little worried that my old hard tail bike would be able to complete this trail in-tact.

We made our way toward the section of the Whistler that had all the black diamonds and more experienced bikers area. My bike kept shaking and taking most of the blow of these trails through the rough terrain we went across to get to there. I knew the park would close in about an hour and a half so we had to take the trails as they were the fastest way around, of course not when going uphill, but for the most part it was a straight shot around part of the mountain.

 We finally arrived at the trail’s head. It read in bold black and yellow text, “BEWARE, EXPERT TRAIL, ONE WAY OUT.” Meaning, if we start, we have to finish. Which seemed more menacing then the lead biker put off. 

“Are you all ready? Let’s start then.” The lead biker spoke, already descending into the trail.

“Alright then.” Parker and I almost said in sync, letting out a laugh. 

“Oh, shoot, let’s go.” I said, realising the group had started following the lead. I set on my goggles and swallowed big, hoping my bike will keep up with the roughness of the trail. 

We speed down the trail, nearly sliding off the trail at some points but still gaining speed. 

“Guy’s look! Slow down and check this out!” We hear up ahead. I almost immediately slam the brakes down to my handlebars, trying to slow down with such immense speed. I finally come to a stop behind Parker, appearing to be the last one of the group to reach this mystery checkpoint. 

“There’s an unmarked part of the trail, it must be new!” The leader shouted enthusiastically. “And I think you should go, since you were the last down the trail, it’s only fair.” I turned my head from the trees surrounding us to the leader, who was lifting his finger in my direction. 

“Come’on, you let us lead you down that part of the trail, now you lead us.” You could almost tell there was a grin under his helmet, face completely covered by hid mask and goggles. 

I shook my head no, trying to get out of this mess. 

“I was just talking to my friend and got distra-” I tried to let out when the lead started chanting.

“Just go lead! Just go lead! Just go lead!” Over a few seconds the group started to join in, I’m pretty sure half were cheering me on and trying to encourage me, while the other half were just trying to be jerks. “LEAD! LEAD! LEAD! LEAD!” The group started to close around me and almost herd me to the mystery trail. Just as if I was a sheep and they were a pack of dogs.

I was suddenly shoved from the side and suddenly started on the trail. My bike was vibrating and bouncing around from the unfinished dirt and loose rock trail. I gained speed and started gliding on the trail, unable to find any traction. Suddenly my front tire jumped into the air, and slammed back down, making a metallic noise. 

I tried to look behind me and noticed the sound was my bike chain, hanging from the gear shifter, then suddenly flew off. I looked back ahead just in time to notice a sharp berm. I quickly struggled to fix my position on my bike before I went into the berm. I noticed the berm was really, breakneck sharp, causing me to feel as if I was being pushed into the ground. 

As I reached the end of the turn the trail began to suddenly drop into a very steep decline. I had to pull myself up to not go head over handles and frontflip off the bike. At the end of the decline, I had too much speed, noticing the ramp up onto an old, wooden platform. I took flight when I got slingshotted off the wooden ramp. 

I looked below mid air to see a broken, splintering wooden ramp. My eyes hurt from the intense speed. I notice ground covered in sticks and rocks growing nearer.  And a split second later I was on the ground.

I tried to lift my head only to be hit with a massive, blaring headache. I tried to get up only to be hit with a surge of pain, not being able to move my legs. I tried to grab for my phone and didn’t feel its weight in my pocket. I shout for help but no one responds, I’m stuck here. I find a small rock, but big enough to support my head. I try to move it under but only to feel that same throbbing ache. 

I finally manage to lift my head far enough to fit the rock under, just enough to raise my head and see the rest of my body. I gaze at my legs to find my bike folded on top of my legs. My pants were red in some spots, and my left foot was twisted. 

I set my head back down and groaned, in the background I faintly heard yelling, someone, most likely Parker was shouting. I couldn’t make anything out over the throbbing headache. 

In about half an hour, presumably, I woke up to being lifted into a thin bed. I try to look around and notice about five men wearing full orange uniforms. They lifted me into a loft with cords on all corners. 

I suddenly get hit with the sound of a heavy fan spinning fast. I gaze up to see an orange and red helicopter hovering right above. I suddenly lost consciousness again after starting to be lifted into the helicopter.Three months later I had fully recovered and had learnt I broke my left leg and ankle, while my right foot got shattered. I now stick to intermediate trails while biking, and am still friends with Parker and we continue our journey around the USA. My old bike was scrap and I set up a go-fund-me and was able to pay for a new, safer bike. Thank the lord for Canada’s free medical care, as all I had to cover was the bikes. I went to court with the ones who forced me down that trail, and won, getting around $12,000 and ended up buying a new van to travel in through-out the country. END.

The Camp Half-Blood Tournament

My name is Holly Victor, I’m 15, and my mom is Nike goddess of victory. My mother is not the easiest person or god to get along with,then again most gods aren’t. Oh my dad is a mortal which means he is only human. I was sitting in my cabin at Camp Half-Blood which is a camp for half bloods.

 I heard a noise outside my cabin and I looked out the window. There were campers outside like normal but they looked annoyed. I went out to see what was happening. 

“What happened?” I asked my sister, Laurel, who was standing on the deck in front of our cabin. 

“The dryads want the best volleyball players and the campers want us.” she said. I looked out to the crowd gathered around the cabin and they looked back at me. 

“ What do they want us for? I asked my sister.

“They want you more than me but still.” She said

“But why?”

“The dryads want to have a volleyball tournament against the campers.” 

I looked at her “oh,ok lets play.” 

She rolled her eyes “whatever, what team?”

“Duh, campers”

“Let us practise.”

The campers let us go to the court and Laurel and I stood in the middle of the court and picked the best players we knew.

“Lets have the Nike cabin and some of the Hermes cabin.” I said.

“ Which members of the Hermes cabin do you want?” a camper asked 

I point to the people I want and my sister agrees with me.

“Lets go meet the dryads.” 

We go meet the dryads that will represent them.

One comes up to us 

“Lets set the rules, shall we.” she says

We go to the forest, the campers welding celestial bronze weapons. 

“Ok we’re here, what do you want for rules.” the dryads which I learned to be Bluebell.

“There will be no cheating, no having others cheat for your team that goes for both teams.” I said looking at the Hermes cabin players. They looked at me sheepishly. 

“ Ok those will be the rules.” says Bluebell. “ You must go before you get hungry.” 

“ Yes, lets go everyone.” my sister says. 

We leave the clearing and go to the dining pavilion. I see Chiron and go up to him.

“ What is a good time to use the volleyball court?” I ask. 

“Ah, yes I was wondering when you would ask that. Let me think. I think you could use it this weekend if you would allow the other campers and dryads to watch.” 

“ Of course they can.” I said smiling. I walked to my table for the Nike children and my sisters and brothers asked when we could do the tournament.

“Chiron said we could do it this weekend, so we’ll see when the dryads want to do it.” I said.They all nod and we go to the fire to give our mom part of the food, which we do every meal. 

Later, we went to the campfire which is magical. The flames take their color to the mood of the campers there. When we got there everyone was talking about the tournament. When we entered everyone looked at us, then started talking again as it had gone silent. We went to sit down at our seats and I called the hermes players over to talk. They came over to us and sat down.

“ We will go to the forest after breakfast to see when the dryads want to do the tournament,then we will start practice.” I said. They all nod and get up, but I call one named Alice back.

“Yeah?”

“If I catch your cabin cheating I will make sure you don’t play.” I said, glaring. She laughs

“Ok, we won’t.” I let her leave and I turned to talk to my boyfriend James, who is a son of Apollo. 

“Will you watch?”

“Of course I will. How could I not?” He said smiling and taking my hand. Chron calls for everyone to get to their cabins and the people who are left leave. At my cabin my siblings bombard me with questions.

“When do we start preparing the court?”

“When do we meet with dryads?”

“OK EVERYONE LETS LEAVE HER ALONE!” Everyone looked at my sister, who is the cabin counselor, 

“ We have a big day tomorrow as we have to practise. Lets get some good sleep. Lights out when everyone is in their bunks.”

The next morning I woke up to find I’m the first one awake so I used that to get ready in my orange Camp Half-Blood shirt and jean shorts with my hair up in a messy ponytail that I knew would send the Aphrodite cabin into fits. I sat on my bunk when the rest of my cabin woke up.

“Someone is up early.” Laurel says. “ Did you at least get a good night’s sleep?” 

“Yes, I did, Thank you very much.” I said. After the rest of my cabin gets ready Laurel calls for us to get in line so we can get out of the cabin to go eat. I waved to James, who was sitting at the Apollo table, and went to my table. After breakfast, I went and gathered the team. We went to the volleyball court and I left Laurel in charge so I could talk to Bluebell. After I got back I had the team start serving the ball to each other. We practised until lunch, I let the team take a break to eat. I stayed behind to practise more, when I heard someone call my name. I looked over my shoulder and saw James walking towards me. 

“Hey.” He said, waving “ Thought you might want something to eat.”

“Thanks.” I took the food and sat down on the grass and he sat with me.

“ You’re sweating so badly.” He said laughing. He put his hand on mine. I smiled at him and put my head on his shoulder.

“Hey lovebirds!” I look around to see Lacy, daughter of Aphrodite, coming round the benches. “You might want to get to the cabins before the harpies get you.” I looked up at the sky to see that it was almost dark out.

“Oh, yeah guess we should.” I said laughing “We do have a big day tomorrow.” I get up and head to my cabin just in time for my sister to say lights out. The next day I got up and headed to the bathroom to get ready for the game so I put on an old tank top and volleyball shorts. My sister came in and did the same as me. After that I had her braid my hair and I did the same to her hair. I went out to put on my knee pads and shoes. I let the rest of my cabin get ready for the game.

“ Make sure you have water to drink.” I say to the cabin “You need to make sure you have a good breakfast but make sure that it’s small.” They all nod and get in line. We get to the pavilion and sit down. I have a small granola bar which I give a bit to the gods. After I eat I wait for Chiron to get to the announcements. When he does the first thing he announces is that the volleyball tournament is today. Everyone starts cheering and yelling. Chiron has to stamp his hoof against the ground to quiet everyone down. He calls me and my sister to come up. We look at each other and head up.

“What’s up?”

“I want a fair game, understand.”

“ That is our rule.”

“Good, go get your team I will ref.” We go get our team and head to the Big House where we would get ready. If there were any injuries the Apollo cabin would be on standby. I hear the people sitting down around the court then hear the conch shell being blown, which signals it’s time to go out. I lead the way as I was chosen to be captain of the team. We make our way to the court and as we approach I see the dryads already there, even though it’s a longer walk to the court from the woods than from the house. 

“ LET THE GAMES BEGIN!” Chiron shouts. We begin by serving. It was going great until I heard a cry of pain. I looked around to see that Laurel was on the ground. I rushed over to her and asked what had happened. She was crying but managed to tell me that there was a root sticking out of the ground that she didn’t see. I looked around, confused because the only tree that was visible was Thalia’s tree which was on the hill. I looked at the dryads, who were looking away from the scene. I helped get my sister off the court and I asked a camper if they had seen anything. They said that they had seen one of the dryads use their magic. I went up to Chiron and told him what the camper saw.

“Oh! PENALTY ON THE DRYADS FOR USING MAGIC!”

“WHAT! WE DID NOTHING!” one said looking a little embarrassed 

  “Really are you sure?” I asked, looking at all of the dryads.

“Fine we did.” The crowd gasped and started to yell 

“CHEATERS!”
“YOU DON’T DESERVE TO WIN!”

  “SETTLE DOWN!” Chiron yelled. Everyone started to calm down and let            Chiron say what he had to say.

 “DRYADS ARE TO TAKE AWAY ONE PLAYER FOR TWO MINUTES!” 

“WHAT THAT’S NOT FAIR!” 

“YEAH!” The dryads started yelling, but Bluebell stopped them.

“We do not take well to that but we will do it.” the dryads started to complain but Bluebell raised her hand 

“That or we will forfeit.”

“NO!” 

“FINE! Who do you want to take out?”

“Meliai.” one of the dryads walked off the court and sat down on the grass. The rest looked annoyed but they let it go. 

“ON WITH THE GAME!” We continued the game, which we got to serve first. The conch shell sounded and the game stopped. We waited to find out who was the winner. 

“THE WINNERS ARE THE CAMPERS!” The crowd went crazy and ran to give us hugs. I stood there stunned and looked at the dryads, who were looking upset. I walked over to them, getting looks from the campers, and held my hand out.

“Good job. Do you want to come celebrate with us?”

“Why? we didn’t win.” Bluebell said

“This was for fun so we all win.”

“That’s fair. We’re in” we smile at each other and walk back to the group.

“LET’S PARTY!” 

We went to the beach to party, which our camp director Mr.D took care of . I was standing in the ocean when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked behind me and saw James standing there. He put his hand in mine and I put my head on his shoulder. He moved his head to kiss me on the head but I moved my head at the same time so we kissed each other.  After we went back to the party

Something in the Woods

Something In the Woods

It’s September 15, 2022 and my family and I took a roadtrip to California. Our Family is a family of five so it gets pretty cramped on roadtrips. We live in West Virginia so a road trip to California is a long time. We leave for our trip tomorrow so I have to hurry and get packing and so does my family.

Melinda-mom: “On our way there we are stopping at  hotels on the way so we can get actual sleep because the ride is 2 days.”

Luke: “Why is the ride so long?”

Casyn: “Yeah this is going to take forever.”

David-dad “The ride will be over before you know it just play a game on your phone or go to sleep.”

When we finally all get time to pack we pack the car with all our things because we are staying there for three weeks and that’s a long time. We’re getting an AirBnb in california so we don’t have to stay in a small hotel room with a family of five. When we finally go to bed we all have to wake up at 6:30 and get ready for our trip and leave the house at 7:00. Before we leave the house we make sure we have everything such as our suitcases, phones, chargers, and etc. Then after we have checked everything we leave for California. My brothers and my sister are just on their phones which I understand because the car ride is going to be really boring. 

We’re only three hours in the trip and everyone is exhausted so we stop at a gas station to all take a break and get some food. My two brothers got slushies and hotdogs, my sister and I got soda and nachos. Theory had tables at the gas station so we could sit down and eat which was good because everyone didn’t want to go back in the hot cramped car. After we’re done eating we go back in the car and start driving again. Now we’re finally out of our state we are now in Kansas so we stop at a restaurant because it’s dinner time. The food we got was really good but now we have to go back in the car and start driving again. That’s our last stop until tomorrow. Now it’s time to go to bed so we stop at the hotel and  go to sleep but we have to go to bed early because now we’re leaving at 6:00. Once we went to bed we were in the car for 10 hours so we were finally half way through our trip. This time we didn’t stop anywhere and kept driving. We stopped at a gas station to get more food because we were all starving. Once we ate we got back in the car.

Another 10 hours go by and we only have 13 hours left to our trip. Everyone is so excited to get to California. Another 5 hours went by and we were so eager to get there that we were planning and thinking about all the fine things we were going to do when we got there. 

While we were in the car we all decided to play a game. We vote on play ISpy. Casyn: This game isn’t fair. So we all decided to stop playing.

We’re now in Nevada which is so close to California. Then a few more hours passed and we were finally in California and were all so excited. Once we get to our hotel we plan all of the fun things we’re going to do. Tomorrow we’re going on a hike in the woods and were so excited. Once it’s finally time to go to sleep I wake up in the middle of the night and hear strange noises. I just think it’s my mind messing with me so I go to bed but they keep on getting louder and louder and I get up out of bed and just drink some water and go to bed. The noises finally stop so I can sleep. The next morning we all got up and I didn’t say anything about the noises because it didn’t matter. Once we’re all done eating breakfast and getting ready we go for our hike in the woods.

We are finally leaving for the woods and were so excited to go hiking and explore. Were hiking for a good hour but Casyn asks to go to the bathroom so we find a rest stop and wait for him. 10 minutes pass and Casyn still isn’t done but that’s pretty normal for him so we think nothing of it. While we’re eating we all have a snack because we’re all very hungry. While we were eating it’s been 30 minutes and no sign of Casyn were all so worried so my dad goes and checks the bathroom. He comes out and he says Casyn isn’t in there. 

Were all so worried so we all went searching for him but no one could find him. We search for one hour then one hour turns into two and two into three and we can’t find Casyn. So we call the police and they arrive in an hour because we’re far in the woods. They arrive for an hour and report back to us. They give us terrible news. They tell us that there’s no sign of Casyn and he’s no nowhere to be found. So we continue hiking because we believe we can find Casyn but we hear weird noises and some sound like Casyn saying “help me”. So we all start getting freaked out but we keep searching. Then we see a black figure and we get so scared. 

But the black figure wont stop us from finding Casyn so we kept searching then we realized my other brother was gone. We were paying so much attention to finding Casyn that my brother disappeared. So now we’re disappointed and worried but then something grabs my leg and starts dragging me and it’s this black figure and we all get scared so we call the police and they get too scared and don’t know what to do. But we see Casyn and Drew behind the monster. We run towards them and grab them and run away from the woods as far as possible. We never go hiking again in California but we still have our whole vacation left so we keep doing things as planned. The next morning we wake up and decide to explore Los Angeles. But we keep hearing voices and we see the black figure again. It was like it was following us so we got scared and went back to our hotel and hid. But when we look out the window it’s there again so we’re all so scared and don’t know what to do.  We all decide to go to bed after a long day but then we all hear weird noises like scratching and tapping sounds. We all decide on getting a new hotel tomorrow in Beverly Hills. The next morning we wake up and get to our hotel and we enjoy the rest of our vacation. Until we feel like someone is watching us all the time. Once our vacation is done we drive home and we don’t say anything the whole ride because we still have that creepy feeling. We get used to the feeling and just continue with our lives.
