“Dark Paradise”

The final season of Bates Motel got underway with a bit of a time jump. I just talked about time jumps in the Battlestar Galactica season 2 finale write up. This is another year jump.

Norman is running his hotel with ghost Norma hanging around making him breakfast. Ghost Norma is quite the helpful hand… baking, laundry, killing hitmen and helping to dispose of the body. Not sure how the physics of any of that happens.

The funniest moment in the show was when Ghost Norma grabbed Norman by the ear and dragged him up to the house to show him the body of the man she killed. All I could picture was Norman with his head tilted to the side, with no one actually pulling on his ear, but he acting as if someone was. If only someone could have seen that.

Dylan and Emma had a baby girl. Awwwww…. I did not remember that from the first time I saw this series and I thought that was great. Of course, Caleb showed up looking for some kind of connection. This story was very nicely handled and showed some emotion. Its funny that a teenage rapist who got his sister pregnant is not the worst one in the family.

One would think that after having a baby, Dylan might have reached out to his mother or brother…even once maybe. Didn’t Emma have a good relationship with both of them. Keeping them isolated does feel a bit convoluted, though I understand they would be building toward something.

Romero is beating the hell out of that punching bag in prison. He had parole denied and he apparently hired the guy that tried to kill Norman. I think Romero is meant to be seen as the bad guy, but I still feel like I understand his rage toward Norman.

They introduced a new female potential victim for Norman. Maybe she will be okay since she reminds Norman of Norma. Or maybe not. Females do not have a good track record around Norman.

Nine episodes remaining for this rewatch. I really have enjoyed revisiting this show. Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga have been on the top of their game every week.

“Lay Down Your Burdens- Part 2”

Part two of this season finale was rocking. And so much happened, effectively resetting the series for season three and beyond.

Legitimately, there was so much here. The election happened and President Roslin rigged it. As shocking as that was, she wound up getting caught and she decided to make things right, which made Gaius Baltar president of the colonies.

That led to a settlement on New Caprica.

Number six exploded the nuclear bomb that was smuggled on to Cloud Nine, destroying everything.

Starbuck returned from Caprica with the soldiers she had gone to retrieve. That whole thing was strange and I thought for awhile that Starbuck had been replaced with a Cylon and that this was not her. There were some hints that seemed out of character for her, but the end of the episode seemed to not support that theory. I still think something weird is going on because that return from Caprica was so anticlimactic.

Dean Stockwell (two of them actually) turned out to be a Cylon and sent out the air vent (I assume. It was a presidential order).

Then we had a time jump of a year. Shows like this doing a time jump is always complicated, but so many of our characters received a serious reboot during this year. I wonder if season three will include flashbacks to this time frame. Certainly, we will see the conflict between Starbuck and Apollo that seemed to have damaged their relationship and maybe even Apollo and Dualla’s relationship too.

The Cylons arrive at the end of the episode, taking control of New Caprica, after Baltar surrendered to them. The army of Cylon robots marched through the streets as the scattered crew, including Starbuck, swore to keep fighting.

We get a glimpse of the baby given birth by Sharon that had been “killed.” The half human, half Cylon baby seemed to be very happy.

Mad God (2021)

The October 13 of 13

What a trip.

I went searching for a film to wrap up the October 13, which to be fair has been a touch underwhelming so far. I was really hoping to find something epic to end out the thirteen.

Well, I found something original for sure.

On AMC + on Prime, I found a stop-motion film called Mad God and it looked interesting. That would be an understatement for this.

According to IMDB, “Equipped with a gas mask and a crumbling map, the Assassin, an iron-clad humanoid, descends into a rusty, peril-laden underworld of grime, blood, and unsettling monstrosities. As the stealthy invader meanders through the labyrinthine post-apocalyptic wasteland on a mysterious mission, going deeper and deeper in the nightmarish realm, the Assassin gradually reaches his final destination: the heart of this grotesque tower of torture. But what cruel, vindictive deity allows fear and suffering to take its most complete creation further and further into despair? Only a Mad God would revel in humankind’s ordeal.”

That synopsis from IMDB is well done, but to be honest, the story is not anywhere near as straightforward as that description. I would venture to say that this film has a very limited narrative structure. The story seems secondary to the goals of this film.

Mad God has amazing, masterful stop-motion animation that creates an atmosphere unlike few movies that I have ever seen. It is frightening at times, disturbing at others. It imbues this nightmare realm with such darkness and alarming imagery that you can help but be taken aback from the visual daze.

The sound effects and score are very effective keeping you uneasy as the images build a surreal experience of monstrous creatures and violent despair.

Written and directed by stop-motion guru Phil Tippett, this passion project takes you deep into the mind of the director. And what a bizarre and warped experience it was. I usually prefer more of a story, and that is just short here, but this is an experience that I would not have passed on. I am conflicted on how I feel after watching this, which, I suppose, is a desired result.

Grotesquerie S1 E9

“Episode 9”

An intense episode that, once again, really throws my understanding of what is going on into a confused state… and I loved that.

It felt as if Lois was on a crusade to put things to rest before she moved down to Florida. She saw Marshall and gave him divorce papers (and he was downright cruel at this point), she saw her daughter for one final slap, and she continued dream therapy.

It was here where things started to go weird once more. It was suggested that Lois’s dream, specifically about the Burnside family, which had no connection to her own life, was Lois seeing the future.

Of course, Megan was arriving at a murder scene exactly like the Burnside murder in reality. Right down to the mystery contents of the boiling pot on the stove, which feels as if it is a secret that we will be getting in the finale.

Reality? Hm, I wonder.

When Lois met Megan at the hotel, Lois had her cut her arm so she could see her blood. That was supposed to be how Lois proved to herself that this was real… and then the most surreal thing happened, with Megan’s abusive boyfriend showing up and attacking her. Lois held a gun on him but he did not stop. He tormented Lois about being the dream woman and that she knew she couldn’t kill him. He went so far as to put the barrel of the gun Lois held into his own mouth.

And then she shot him.

That was an awesome moment. A-hole got what he deserved. However, I worry for Lois.

Still, I am not convinced that everything here is real life. The background TVs kept talking about the fires that were spreading, much like the final sections of Lois’s dreams, and I feel there may be something “biblical” going down.

Conclave

The process of electing a new Pope is full of secrecy. That means you can tell whatever story you want about it, as this new film starring Ralph Fiennes opens wide this weekend.

This movie is based on a 2016 novel by Robert Harris. It is directed by Edward Berger, who directed the Oscar nominated All Quiet on the Western Front.

According to IMDB, “Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope’s wake–secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church.“

Ralph Fiennes was sensational once again as Cardinal Lawrence. He has such an understated performance that he fits into this story beautifully. He anchors the film with his work.

There are other great performances including Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, Lucian Msamati and Sergio Castellitto.

There is a twist at the end of the movie that came after it seemed as if the film was over and I am not sure if it was necessary. No spoilers, of course, but this feels as if this was done to create division among viewers. I have no issues with the ending outside that I am just not sure it was important to the story.

I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the script and the film looked beautiful. Great performances scattered throughout the film. I assume this will have a huge presence at the Oscars. This was very solid.

Venom: The Last Dance

The final film in the trilogy featuring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the man who would become Venom, was released this weekend. I have never been a big fan of the previous Venom movies, but I have enjoyed the character some so I was curious to see what Sony was going to present for us.

The first three minutes of this film was a huge exposition dump involving the scary villain known as Knull, who was being played by Andy Serkis. The problem, this reminded me of the opening to 2011’s Green Lantern with Parallax, which I thought completely failed to start off that movie. I was laughing at Parallax during that opening and the fact that this reminded me of that was a bad sign to start this movie.

Sadly, the film continued to be a mess after this beginning. It went back to the post credit scene from No Way Out, with Eddie in the bar, drunk and getting pulled back to his own universe.

Knull sent some monstrous symbiote hunters to earth in search of Venom, who was now some kind of McGuffin, and they were after him. The monsters had zero personality and was fairly boring.

The best part of all of these Venom movies are the relationship between the symbiote and Tom Hardy. Hardy is great as Eddie Brock and some of the best scenes of the film are when Eddie meets up with a hippie family with the father played by Rhys Ifans. I think more with this family on the road would have made this more enjoyable. However, what the family wound up doing did not make a lot of sense as the film moved on.

I did love the soundtrack to the film, with banger after banger throughout the movie.

Why did we need to introduce Knull in this movie. He was not used, and if this is the final Venom movie, why do we introduce Knull at all and not use him? I feel as if Sony wanted Knull to be their Thanos, but they brought him around too late if that is the case.

This movie is not horrendous, but it is just not very good. Tom Hardy is the strength, but the story around him is not good and the dialogue is weak. The other symbiotes have the “Michael Bay Transformers disease” as none of them have personality or any way to distinguish them.

Will there be more Venom movies? Who knows. Will Knull be involved with Kraven the Hunter? Doubt it. None of the Sony Spider-universe films seem to fit this concept. The final Venom movie is just not that good.

Grotesquerie S1 E8

“Episode 8”

With the World Series kicking off tonight, I did not have the chance to watch both episodes of Grotesquerie tonight. So I decide just to watch episode 8 and I will catch up with number nine this weekend before the season finale next week.

We start into the new world time when Lois awakes from her coma and has to deal with this dream that she remembers everything about. Apparently, she also spoke to the doctor about everything in the dream, something that she does not remember doing.

It seems like everyone that Lois cast in a different role in her dream knows about it and seems to resent her for it. Lois does consistently say that she can’t be blamed for her subconscious, but I am not sure she believes it.

I’m not 100% sure things are as they seem yet. There is a dream-like state to this part of the story and I would not be surprised if the last two episodes make yet another switch.

Shrinking S2 E3

“Psychological Something-ism” 

Shrinking continues to be one of the best shows on Apple TV +. This cast is just extremely strong with Jason Segal, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams are fantastic. There are a bunch of exceptional secondary characters that worked great in this episode.

  • Jimmy and Brian’s friendship is explored as they reach a turning point.
  • Alice is still haunted by the idea of the man who killed her mom being in town.
  • Paul is looking for a new doctor and still worried about being a weight for Julie.
  • Gaby remains mad at Jimmy.
  • Grace gets out of jail… and goes back to her husband.
  • Thinking she was doing a good thing, Liz sold her part of the food truck to Sean’s father… and Sean was really mad.

We had a fun scene with Harrison Ford and Ted McGinley, which is an odd pairing, but it was really fun.

Shrinking has some of the best writing on television and the cast delivers this beautifully.

Little Evil (2017)

The October 12 of 13

Who would have guessed that one of the better films I saw during the October 13 this year would be a Netflix film from 2017?

Gary (Adam Scott) recently married Sam (Evangeline Lilly), who has had several failed marriages. The biggest reason? Her son Lucas (Owen Atlas) is the Anti-Christ and he has a tendency to bury them alive.

Gary does not know what to do. Does he try and connect with the six-year old or does he kill the boy?

This is a surprisingly funny film with some excellent horror elements to it. The old evil child has been done countless times in movies, but this has a different flavor to it. It is the Omen mixed with This is the End.

Adam Scott does a great job of providing the anchor to this ridiculous story. You never feel that this is over-the-top because he grounds it for us with his performance. Even when you think that there is no reasonable person who would stick this out, Scott is believable.

There is a unexpectedly deep cast here too with Evangeline Lilly as Lucas’s mother and we get appearances from Clancy Brown, Sally Field, Donald Faison, Tyler Labine, and Brad Williams.

The final act of the film does go a bit off the rails, but I had already been charmed by the film, particularly by Adam Scott and the weaker end did not hurt the film much.

This is a fun film for families during the spooky season even though some of the religious iconography may be too much at times.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #121

I had a sick day from school today which gave me the opportunity to get my books from NEW COMIC BOOK DAY yesterday, read. It was great just resting and reading during the day. I feel better right now, so I want to get the EYG Comic Cavalcade out.

I have gotten a bunch of back issues this week, specifically some early Amazing Spider-Mans. The earliest was Amazing Spider-Man #47 with Kraven the Hunter. I also picked up Daredevil #52 and Avengers #19. Neither are in fabulous shape, but they are both decent enough considering they are both 1960s books.

Other New Books:

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #3. “The Heart of a Lover.” Written, drawn and cover art by Michael Walsh. This issue’s focus was around Elizabeth, who was the fiancé of Henry Frankenstein. The Monster was going to be destroyed, but got free and continued his rampage. This has been another top comic from the the Universal Monsters run.

The Tin Can Society #2. Written by Peter Warren and Francesco Mobili. The cover art was done by Francesco Mobili & Chris Chuckry. I really like this series and I have been impressed how well the writers have introduced the characters within. Many comics struggle to introduce a large cast of all new characters, but this book has been great at it so far.

The Masked Macher #2. Written by David A. Goodman and art by Alex Andres. He is the Masked Macher (which means ‘Big Shot’) and he is wrestling a bear. Oh, by the way… that bear can talk. Didn’t see that coming.

Werewolf By Night: Red Band #3. Written by Jason Loo and penciled by Sergio Davila. E.M. Gist did the cover art. Jack Russell has been losing control of his wolf form more recently, leading to a deadly problem for the people in his vicinity. He came up with a great idea… he would go to the Savage Land! Elsa Bloodstone went with him to help him. Of course, Ka-Zar was not as big of a fan of this idea. This has been my favorite issue of this series so far ( I do like me some Ka-Zar), but it continues to not feel as if it were much of a red band.

Zatanna: Bring Down the House #5. Written by Mariko Tamaki and drawn and cover art by Javier Rodriguez. This mini series drew to a close and I finally figured out a time frame for it. From the last page. I enjoyed the Zatanna series, but I was never sure where this was supposed to fall in continuity (if it were at all). It’s my own fault since I am not as familiar with the DC books as I am with Marvel.

Incredible Hulk #18. “City of Idols” Part Two. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and art by Nic Klein & Danny Earles. Variant cover B by Ryan Brown. The current run of the Incredible Hulk has been fine. This book is the same way. This is way better than when he was a spaceship, but it pales in comparison to the Immortal Hulk, which this feels as if they want to use that as a homage for this run. This is okay. Big issue #800 next month, if I am correct.

X-Factor #3. “Project Paperclip.” Written by Mark Russell and art by Bob Quinn. Greg Land, Jay Leister & Frank D’Armata did the cover art. Standout character in this issue… no doubt is Granny Smite. The immortal granny with a death wish. I loved her.

Scarlet Witch #5. Written by Steve Orlando and art by Lorenzo Tammetta. Russell Dauterman did the cover art. A fun single issue story featuring Wanda teaming up with Daredevil. It is a team-up that we have never seen before. Final page: Agatha!

The Exorcism at 1600 Penn #1. Written by Hannah Rose May and art by Vanesa Del Ray. Variant cover B art done by Jock (Gold Medalist). This is clearly a series that I was drawn to because of the great covers. I love the Jock cover, but the others were very attractive as well and so I picked this up because of them. The story was very fascinating too, although the actual exorcism part feels like a slow burn. I found the presidential stuff and the way that the president’s kids were affected to be very interesting. There is definitely something more coming with it too.

Standstill #3. Written by Lee Loughridge and art and cover art by Andrew Robinson. I am going to say, once again this week, that the layout of the panels in this comic makes this feel different than all the other books out there. There are some fun spy action in the book too, but it looks so original that it makes it a treat to read.

Void Rivals #13. Written by Robert Kirkman and art and cover art by Lorenzo De Felici. Darak goes face to face with his father and things do not go very well. And we get more from Pythona, who has some strange tie to Cobra-La.

X-Men #6. “Bark.” Written by Jed MacKay and penciled by Netho Diaz. Variant cover C art by Derrick Chew. Temper and Magik go to see a young girl whose mother was involved in a protest against the mutants… a young girl who may be a mutant herself.

Avengers #19. “A Desert, and a Temptation.” Written by Jed MacKay and art from Farid Karami. Valerio Schiti & Federico Blee were the cover artists. New Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, Doctor Doom, summons the Avengers for a chat and he asks them… why they are such wussies. Well, that may have been paraphrasing, but it is the gist.

Duck and Cover #2. Written by Scott Snyder and art and cover art by Rafael Albuquerque. This book is wild. It takes place squarely in the Cold War between the US and USSR, but what seems to have happened is just the beginning. This book has a B-movie/sci-fi feel to it, like it is a sci-fi film right out of the 1950. And it is a lot of fun so far.

Spirits of Vengeance #2. Written by Sabir Pirzada and penciled by Chris Campana. Josemaria Casanovas did the cover art. Johnny Blaze is struggling with his Ghost Rider persona, and a trip to Atlantis was never going to help him out.

Skin Police #1. Written by Jordan Thomas and art by Daniel Gete. Gete & Jason Wordie did the cover art. Picked this up because of a recommendation on Comics Heating Up, but it was really cold for me. I did not enjoy this issue much at all as it struggle to keep my attention. Not a huge fan of futuristic sci-fi stories in comic books.

The Bunnyman: Furry Nightmare #1. Written by Nick Bermel & Joe Brusha with art by Unai De Zarate. I do love Floyd, but I am not sure why they decided to leave Man Goat out of this book and replace him with the sidekick, Jack the Jackalope. Still, always fun with Bunnyman!

Spider-Boy #12. “The Devils’ Due” Written by Dan Slott and art by Paco Medina. Cover art was by Paco Medina & Rachelle Rosenberg. The second guest appearance of the week for Daredevil as he comes across Spider-Boy, who apparently he had trained at one point. We also get Bullseye and his own sidekick, Spider-Girl!

Hello Darkness #4. Once again, this is an anthology series with several horror shorts in it. There is a preview of the upcoming series, In Bloom in here. Variant cover art B was by Jenny Frison (Gold Medalist).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3. “The Way of the Ganges Mud Turtles.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Cliff Chiang. Cover art by Rafael Albuquerque (Bronze Medalist). We meet up with Leonardo as he is on the Ganges River trying to sync up with the Ganges turtles. Meanwhile, the ninjas are after him. These Jason Aaron TMNT books have been top quality so far and we have three of the solo turtles down with only Donatello to go.

DC Horror Presents #1. Two stories featuring the Deadly Dollhouse and Wonder Woman done by a series of creators including David Dastmalchian, Leah Kilpatrick, The Boulet Brothers, Cat Stagss, Butch Mapa, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Kristian Rossi.

Rook Exodus #6. Created by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok. The final issue of the first arc of the Rook Exodus storyline comes to a close with issue six. Rook is able to finally master his control over the birds, even without the helmet by understanding what he needed to know. We meet the bird named Poe here too.

Spider-Society #3. Written by Alex Segura and art by Ruairi Coleman. Pete Woods did the cover art. Things continue to look bad for the Spider-Society as they a getting crushed by the Sinister Squadron. However, Madama Web aka May Parker, and Green Goblin, aka Gwen Stacy, have a disagreement over power which may give our spider-heroes a sliver of a chance.

Iron Man #1. “Capital Strike.” Written by Spencer Ackerman and art by Julius Ohta. Cover art by Yasmine Putri. The new Iron Man series kicks off as Tony discovered that Roxxon Oil was in a hostile takeover of Stark Industries. Poor Tony, just got his company back only to lose it again, perhaps. Melinda May appears in this issue.

Dazzler #2. “Live in Studio”. Written b Jason Loo and art by Rafael Loureiro. Terry & Rachel Dotson did the cover art. Dazzler, hot off her controversial concert which included a fight with a super villain, goes to London to appear on a TV talk show that was absolutely NOT Graham Norton. More trouble for Ms. Blaire.

Absolute Wonder Woman #1. “The Last Amazon.” Written by Kelly Thompson and art by Hayden Sherman. Variant cover C art was by Wes Craig. The second of the new DC Absolute books with a very intriguing new back story for Diana. It seemed as if they took some of Diana’s new origins from the classic tales of Hercules, but who’s complaining. Decent book.

Yellowjackets S1 E8, E9, E10

I watched the final three episodes of Yellowjackets last night and I did not have the chance to do the write ups. I had not intended on watching the rest of season one, but it was so compelling that I couldn’t stop. I knew I would not have time to do the write up, but I did not let that stop me.

This show is just awesome… and bat-shit crazy.

When it started, I thought their big secret was that they did something that led to cannibalism. However, the reporter that Misty had kidnapped dropped that guess so casually that it was clear that there was way more than that going on.

Trying to go into the details of these three episodes is really a taxing issue. So many things went down and I am still not really sure what is going on. I love it.

When they were getting the area cleared for that airplane take off, I had more flashbacks to LOST- with the raft at the end of season one. The raft was more successful than the plane, which said something.

I was shocked when the crew crashed into Natalie’s place seconds before she kills herself and carts her off screaming.

Lottie Matthews looks to be behind the Travis murder and Natalie’s kidnapping. She was also one of the wilderness crazies. What is her deal? I am guessing season two will go into this more.

We saw Jackie’s death, freezing outside in the snow. In the present, Adam is stabbed to death by Shauna, and Misty comes in like a Mafia fixer. She said that it did not matter if they find the torso of Adam. All they need to get rid of is the head and hands. Cold.

Oh, Van survived. They discovered that she was alive as they were giving her the Viking funeral and burning her corpse. Thankfully, they were able to get her out of the fire before she caught on fire too much.

I loved this first season and now my challenge is to find the second season on streaming somewhere before season three drops.

Agatha All Along E7

“Death’s Hand in Mine”

God that was good.

This show has no right to be as epic as it is.

This episode is my favorite one so far. It is so expertly written that I was absolutely enthralled with every minute of it.

I was so glad when Lilia and Jennifer turned up alive and not dead in the mud. I celebrated their life although I held my breath as the implications of the episode looked to see one of their ends. Sadly, Lilia was falling at the end.

I love a good use of tarot cards and this was spectacular.

Patti LuPone gave us an amazing performance in this episode as Lilia bounced around time and we learned where every one of her blurts over the first six episodes came from and to what they referred. The lay out was so perfect that it all fell into a beautiful place, like a puzzle piece in a jigsaw puzzle.

The episode also confirmed the identity of Rio, as played by Audrey Plaza. She is Death, the corporal form of death. In the comics, they call her Lady Death and she has had affairs with Thanos and Deadpool. Here, they look to be dropping the Lady part and just calling her Death. Agatha saying that she liked the “bad boys” was hilarious.

Kathryn Hahn was hilarious throughout the episode, from her bickering with Billy to her smart remarks directed to the others in the coven.

The whole Disney costuming, from the Wicked Witch of the West (whom Agatha claimed was based on her…LOL) to Maleficent (with Billy’s cheekbones) were spot on.

I am really going to miss Lilia and the grand diva, Patti LuPone on this show. Agatha All Along has one more week with a double episode and this could legitimately find its way into the top five Marvel Disney + series of all time. Who would have thought that?

EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

What an amazing variant cover to this series that just came out of nowhere. I love the red and the black mixed with the demon-like creature and the Presidential seal. This Jock variant is extremely hot!

What an amazing cover. We have seen the close up on eyes before, but the skull reflection in the eye and the single tear running from the eye is just astounding. The title of the book down in the lower corner allows the art to dominate the cover. This is breath-taking.

“The Roads Diverge”

The saga of the Fey Wild continues with the group of heroes still split apart trying to find their way to the ruins, encountering conflict along the path.

Marlon got to the ruins first, and was forced into hiding in a tree shadow because of an exhaustion. In truth, Ja-Ron Young, the player whose character is Marlon, had real life interfere this week and had to leave early. I actually blurted out when the shadow engulfed the player and he disappeared in a cool editing trick.

A honest exchange between Bric and Victor was also a highlight of the week, as Bric spoke to Victor about his own guilt over being the reason that dragons have returned. Victor continues to be the conscience of the group and spoke, as only Victor could, to Bric.

This was not the most successful the group has been, most likely because they were split apart. DM David said that next week’s episode is the penultimate episode of the season, so things will pick up significantly moving forward. However, I have really enjoyed the character bits over the last few episodes as much as the combat.

“Escape from Planet Klongo”

After a down week for me last week, Only Murders in the Building had its penultimate episode of season four with an episode that included all of the best things that Only Murders does.

“Escape from Planet Klongo” gave us the following:

  • One of the classic Oliver and Charles arguments – this time over a Bachelor Party .
  • We got another murder- Glen Stubbins (this is the second… maybe even the third time Paul Rudd has been murdered on this show).
  • Only one major cameo – Ron Howard! Ron Howard was sensational here with Martin Short. Ron-Ron. Hilarious.
  • Project Ronkonkoma became the key point for the mystery. A movie directed by Ron Howard and one that Sazz’s protege messed up badly.
  • W.A.N.S: Whiskey, A-List Celebrities, Naughty Secret!
  • A wonderful interaction with Oliver and Charles that showed their friendship.
  • Charles and Oliver wind up as background actors as aliens- in mo-cap suits
  • A script discovered about Only Murders in the Building-The Movie, by Sazz Pataki.

And most importantly, we had a reveal. We discovered who the killer was thanks to a flashback from Ron Howard. It was Marshall, the writer of the movie. He also killed Glen Stubbins with a pillow, and he wound up alone in the apartment with Mabel.

Everything makes a lot of sense for Marshall, especially with how they showed us what happened with Sazz on Project Ronkonkoma. Sazz was writing a script that Marshall wanted to write. Then, Glen replaced him on the movie and he must have been the actual intended victim when the group of Olivers were shot a few weeks ago.

The cameras in the place must have been planted to figure out what Oliver, Charles and Mabel were like as characters. I’m not sure about the whole plot holes bit or the text messages, but I’m sure that will fall into place next week in the finale.

The limited use of cameos is in stark opposition from last week which was cameo overload. And… who knew that when you are around Ron Howard, you should never mention the fishin’ hole (from Andy Griffith). What could have happened at the fishin’ hole?

One more episode which should include a wedding (if they pull it off).

Great episode.
