2019 EYG Stan Lee Movie Cameo Award

Stan Lee

SPOILERS INSIDE HERE

This will be a difficult year for this award as it is the final time that Stan Lee will be up for the award named for him.  No one had such a career as a cameo actor as Stan the Man.  As a three-time winner of this award, Stan has a legacy unmatched by anyone.

Previous winners:  Stan Lee (three times), John Cena, Chris Evans, Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman

This year’s runner’s up:  Starting off, in It Chapter Two, the author of the original book, Stephen King made a cameo in the sequel.  It was a strange one though.  Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart made surprise cameos in Hobbs & Shaw.  Finally, and sad to say, Stan Lee’s final two cameos, in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, came up just short of the award this year.  I struggled with this because I wanted to give it to him one final time, but the fact is that the two cameos that I have tied for the win this year were more impactful and important than either of Stan’s cameos.  RIP Stan.  We love you.

This year’s winners… (Tie)

J.K. Simmons (Spider-man: Far From Home).

Image result for jk simmons as jjj farfr om home

Nobody saw this one coming and it was one of the best moments of the year.  Not to mention that his cameo completely turned the movie on its head and changed the film from a happy ending into a shocking finale.  No one could play JJJ like J.K. Simmons and thankfully, in the MCU, we do not have to have anyone try.

SPOILERS AGAIN

and….

Harrison Ford (Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker)

Image result for harrison ford in rise of skywalker

If you wanted to give Kylo Ren a chance for redemption, you needed to hear from his father, Han Solo.  Kylo’s killing of Han was one of those things that were impossible to return from, but if you could gain forgiveness from Han himself, Ben might have a chance to be accepted.  Sure, it was just a memory in Ben’s head, but we got to see Harrison Ford once more as his iconic character and that is worth everything.

“I Am Groot” Voice Acting Award 2019

iamgroot

The “I Am Groot” Voice Acting Award goes to the best voice actor/motion capture performance of the year.  This has been becoming more and more important to the film industry and it is not seen as just animation any longer.

In the short time we have been presenting this award, we have given this to the characters Moana, Caesar, Thanos, and Genie.

It was a tough choice this year.

Previous Winners:  Auli’i Cravalho, Andy Serkis, Robin Williams (honorary), Josh Brolin

2019

#4.  Josh Brolin- Thanos (Avengers: Endgame).  Infinity War was Thanos’s movie.  Here he was still epic, but in a different way.  Brolin is still fantastic.

#3.  Tom Hanks- Woody (Toy Story 4).  The fourth installment of the Toy Story franchise was Woody’s story, and his ultimate fate.  It may not have been as great as the previous Toy Story movies, but that did not detract from Hanks’ top of the line performance.

#2.  J.K. Simmons-Klaus (Klaus).  Klaus was a surprise at Netflix, but it is one of the best animated films of the year.  That is thanks, in part, to a great job from J.K. Simmons in the title role.

And the “I Am Groot” Voice Over Award winner for 2019 is….

#1.  Ryan Reynolds- Pikachu (Detective Pikachu).  This film may not have been hugely successful, but a big part of what made this movie awesome was Ryan Reynolds and his witty banter.  He made this movie worth seeing.

The Anna Devane Kick Ass Female of 2019

KickAssFemale

Next up on the Year in Review is the Anna Devane Kick Ass Female Award, in honor of one of my favorite characters from General Hospital, WSB super spy Anna Devane.  I loved everything about Anna and the fact that she was a kick ass spy was just part of the package.

So this year’s group of females who can kick my butt is a strong one.  There are some returning favorites here as well as some brand new entries.

Previous winners:  Rey (Star Wars), Mockingbird (Marvel Comics), Wonder Woman (DCEU), The Shirewolves

Image result for valkyrie marvel cinematic universe endgame#10.  Valkyrie (Avengers: Endgame).  Tessa Thompson plays a small role in the film, but she winds up as King of Asgard.  Not bad.  Looking forward to more from her.

Image result for Aero Marvel Comics#9.  Aero (Marvel Comics).  New hero in Marvel’s Agents of Atlas, Aero is a Chinese hero who can control the winds.  She is a fun new character expanding the Marvel Universe.

Image result for linda hamilton dark fate#8.  Sarah Connors (Terminator: Dark Fate).  Linda Hamilton returned to the Terminator franchise and, while the film appeared to have flopped, Sarah Connors showed how tough she still was.

Image result for eleven stranger things 3#7.  Eleven (Stranger Things 3).  Millie Bobby Brown continued to make this character one of the best parts of the Netflix series.  Her relationship with Mike was pushed a bit this year, but when she needed to crush some Russians, she was ready to fling that car.

Image result for season 6 Agent May#6.  Agent Melinda May (Agents of Shield).  It was a tough year for May.  She lost Coulson.  Someone came back who looked just like him and she had to kill him at least once.  May continues to be the best agent on that show.

Image result for florence pugh fighting with family#5.  Saraya aka “Paige” (Fighting With My Family).  She would become the professional wrestler Paige in the WWE, but watching how she came to arrive in this biopic was extremely entertaining.  Florence Pugh had a huge year and this kicked it off.

Image result for rey star wars#4.  Rey (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).  We are on the eve of the movie and this spot is truly ceremonial.  I can only assume that Rey is going to kick some ass.  It sure looks like she will in the promotional material.

Related image#3.  Black Widow (Avengers: Endgame).  Natasha sacrificed her life to make sure that the Avengers were able to fix the big mistake they made with Thanos.  Black Widow held the team together during the five years during the snap and she brought a ton of emotion.  She may be even higher next year as she gets her very own solo movie.

Image result for nancy pelosi clap#2. Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House).  I try to leave politics off of this web site, but I just cannot ignore how Nancy has brought her power down on Washington this year, holding off on impeachment until she just couldn’t hold off any longer.  She shakes off the insults from President Trump like a boss.  And she prays for him.  Nancy knows how to get under his orange skin.

And the winner of the Anna Devane Kick Ass Female of the Year…

Related image#1. Captain Marvel.  I know a lot of fanboys had problems with Brie Larson and with the movie from Marvel Studios, Captain Marvel.  Despite the controversy, Captain Marvel broke the billion dollar mark, something very few people would have guessed.  She also played a significant role in Avengers: Endgame without overshadowing the characters that we really wanted to see.  Captain Marvel deserves this placement for 2019.  Sorry to the haters.

World of WWE 2019

wwe

The WWE has had a bit of a down year this year, but also have reached new heights.  NXT has continued to be a jewel in the WWE crown.  There have been times when I was bored with Monday Night RAW, but I have mostly enjoyed the PPVs.  The FOX deal has been a huge money maker for the WWE, but it has not really increased the quality.

Still, there is a feeling that things are getting ready to turn the corner.

Matches of the Year.

#10.  Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks, Hell in a Cell.

#9.  The NXT Women’s War Games, Team Rhea vs. Team Shayna, NXT Takeover: War Games

#8.  Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano, NXT Takeover XXV

#7.  Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Hardy, Elimination Chamber.

#6.  Candice LaRue vs. Io Shirai, NXT Takeover:  Toronto

#5.  Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar, SummerSlam

#4.  Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano, NXT Takeover:  Phoenix

#3.  NXT Men’s War Games, Undisputed ERA vs. Team Ciampa, NXT Takeover: War Games

#2.  Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole, 2 out of 3 falls, NXT Takeover: New York

#1.  Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan, Wrestlemania 35.

There has been few matches this year that had as much of an emotional story as Kofi vs. Bryan at Wrestlemania as Kofi completed his life long dream of winning the WWE Championship.  This was an amazing story and one of the best pay offs in the WWE in years.

Image result for kofi vs daniel bryan wrestlemania

Image result for becky lynchWWE Wrestler of the YearBecky Lynch.  “The Man” has had a year unlike any other.  From defeating Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania in the main event to the main event of TLC, Lynch is a star.  Runners-Up:  Seth Rollins, Adam Cole, Kofi Kingston, Brock Lesnar, The Fiend.

WWE Tag Team of the YearNew Day.  One of the greatest teams in the WWE is ending 2019 as tag team champs once again, this time on Smackdown.  Get well soon, Xavier!  Runners-Up:  The Revival, The Viking Raiders, The Kabuki Warriors, Gallows & Anderson.

WWE Feud of the YearJohnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole.  These guys had three matches this year that could have made the top ten.  Runners-Up:  Kofi vs. Daniel Bryan, Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks

Image result for the fiend wweWWE Performer of the Year Bray Wyatt.  Wyatt has re-energized himself with the Firefly Fun House segments and the character of “The Fiend.”  He is the hottest thing in the WWE and continues to be one of the most interesting characters around.  Runners-Up:  Kofi Kingston, Daniel Bryan, Shayna Baszler, Adam Cole, Seth Rollins

Image result for shayna baszlerWWE Woman of the Year (Not Named Becky) Shayna Baszler.  The NXT Women’s Champion had been a force to reckon with in the yellow brand.  Shayna has placed her name down as a future superstar.  Runners-Up:  Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Sasha Banks, The Kabuki Warriors, Io Shirai.

Manager of the Year:  Paul Heyman.  Yes, I know he is an advocate, but there are few others who could be considered anywhere near his level.  Runners-Up:  Lana, Sami Zayn.

Face of the YearKofi Kingston.  Kofi and his partners in the New Day were the best faces of the year.  Kofi got the awesome storyline for the WWE title and, even though he had it end in an unhappy manner, he keeps with his job and works hard.  Runners-Up:  Ricochet, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns

Related imageHeel of the YearDaniel Bryan.  He has since turned face, but Daniel Bryan’s heel run this year was so great.  He spoke the truth and people hated him for it.  Runners-Up:  Adam Cole, Baron Corbin, Brock Lesnar, Sasha Banks, Shayna Baszler.

Best Heel Turn:  Dakota Kai.  Dakota Kai turned on her best friend in the middle of the NXT Women’s War Games Match.  It was a fantastic moment and a great heel turn is a lost art these days.  Runners-Up:  Seth Rollins, Bayley, Io Shirai, Finn Balor

Best AnnouncerMauro Ranallo.  I don’t care what anyone says, Mauro makes the NXT Takeovers better with his match calls.  Runners-Up:  Cory Graves, Samoa Joe

Biggest Waste of TalentCesaro.  He has won this “award” before.  It is sad that he is not in the main event every night.  Runners-Up:  Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sammy Zayn, Drew McIntyre.

Image result for roman reigns returnsBest News of the YearRoman Reigns returns in remission.  Last year, Roman announced that he had to step away because of a battle with Leukemia.  This year, Roman returned and announced he was cancer free.

Next Big ThingKeith Lee.  The massive man from NXT had a chance to show off for the WWE Universe around the Survivor Series this year and he was amazing.  A man his size with the abilities he has was spectacular.  Runners-Up:  Shayna Baszler, Rhea Ripley.

EYG Top 100 Worst Movies of the Decade #80-71

WorstMoviesDecade

Continuing my own list of the worst movies of the last decade, we will hit on numbers 80 through 71.  As always… this is my subjective thoughts and if there is anything that you disagree with, you have every right.  This is my list.

#80.  Cars 2.  Pixar’s Cars franchise was not meant for me.  Unlike a lot of the Pixar films, Cars is directed at the children and only the children.  It is a perfect example of dumbing down the material instead of raising it up.

Image result for Baywatch movie#79.  Baywatch.  I was actually looking forward to this.  The TV show was a guilty pleasure of mine.  I love the Rock.  But unfortunately, Baywatch was just a terrible, immature waste.  This could have been so much more entertaining.

#78.  X-Men: Apocalypse.  Another waste was the first use of one of the greatest X-Men villains ever, Apocalypse.  This was such a step down after the greatness of Days of Future Past that you wonder what happened.

#77.  Ben-Hur.  I mean…why?  What was the reason behind the remake of the classic (which was also a remake, by the way).  If you are doing this, find something worth doing.  They did not.  It was bad.

Image result for terminator genisys#76.  Terminator: Genisys.  Another major disappointment.  James Cameron had said that this was a great Terminator film.  Not sure which film he was watching.  The flop of Terminator: Dark Fate is directly connected to how bad this film was.

#75.  King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.  They have not gotten King Arthur right in a long time and this was a boring mess.  This story had so many weak points to it and Charlie Hunnam did not pull anything out.

#74.  Tron: Legacy.  Some people like this, but I thought it was horrendous.  It was dull.  It looked like a mess.  Even the presence of Jeff Bridges could not save this one.

Image result for gangster squad movie#73.  The Gangster Squad.  Remarkably forgettable.  How could this film be as bad as it was with a cast like Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena?  It was though.

#72.  Getaway.  It has 2% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Even the audience score is low at 35%.  Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez are the stars here, but the car chases are considered much more important.

Image result for need for speed movie#71.  Need for Speed.  Another car type movie, this time with Aaron Paul in the lead.  Based on a video game franchise and that should be all you need.

Best and Worst Villains of 2019

Villains are so important.  If you want your hero to stand out, you need to have a great antagonist.  Here are the best and worst of each for 2019.

BEST Villains

#5.  Pennywise.

#4.  Carnage

#3.  Thanos

#2.  Mysterio

#1.  Joker

Image result for joker

Joker made over 1 Billion dollars at the box office.  He carried his own movie with a great performance from Joaquin Phoenix.  Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio from Spider-man: Far From Home was fantastic, but just could not reach the levels of Joker.  Thanos was in the largest money making movie of all time, but he was more important last year.  Carnage was featured in his own major Marvel crossover.  Finally, Pennywise could have been higher had It Chapter Two been better.  Pennywise was not an issue with that movie.

WORST Villain

#5.  Jean Grey (Dark Phoenix)

#4.  Charlie Peck (The Intruder)

#3.  Bosley (Charlie’s Angels)

#2.  Smith (Dark Phoenix)

#1.  Mexican Drug Cartel (Rambo:  Last Blood)

Image result for Mexican mob in Rambo

The Mexican Drug cartel in was as weak as could be.  They were totally one-dimensional and interchangeable.  The movie Dark Phoenix brought us two weak villains, not only title character Jean Grey but Jessica Chastain’s character… Smith, I guess (that is what IMDB says).  Patrick Stewart phoned in his performance as Bosley in the new Charlie’s Angels movie.  The Intruder was one of those movies that spoiled itself in the trailer.

EYG Best Movies of the Decade #80-71

Top100

#80-71

Continuing the countdown of the list of EYG’s choices for the Top 100 films of the decade.  We are moving into the 70s.

Image result for looper#80.  Looper.  Time travel with Bruce Willis facing off with a younger version of himself in Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  There is a tremendous child performance from Pierce Gagnon as Cid.

#79.  Django Unchained.  The first Tarantino movie on the list with a fantastic cast. The film tells all about a former slave Django who is freed and turns into a bounty hunter.  It has all of Quentin’s typical violence and bloodshed, but is full of brilliant writing and characterization as well.

#78.  Chronicle.  Josh Trank took the found footage genre and turned it on its ear with the inclusion of a super powered origin story.  Chronicle was strengthened with some of the earliest appearances from Dane DeHaan and Michael B. Jordan.

That was three consecutive films from 2012.  Good year I guess.

Image result for the big sick#77. The Big Sick.  An amazing comedy that stars Kumail Nanjiani in the story of his relationship with Emily, who gets terribly sick.  Kumail has to hang with her parents, played by Ray Romano and Holly Hunter.  It is loosely based on their true story and it is hilarious.

#76.  Get Out.  It is a brilliant horror/thriller from the mind of Jordan Peele.  Peele, who has been in the comedy group Key and Peele, debuted as the director of this movie and showed tremendous skill.  He was able to blend the racial relations with a scary as hell movie that had its share of laughs.  This one came out of nowhere to be a huge hit.

#75.  Moonrise Kingdom.  Paul Anderson’s film with Bill Murray, Bruce Willis and Edward Norton that shows us the beginning of young love for two oddball kids who have runaway to be together.

Image result for the martian#74.  The Martian.  Hey Golden Globes… this ain’t no comedy!  The Martian shows us how Matt Damon survives after he gets stranded on the planet of Mars.  Then we hope for his rescue from the earth.  Ha  Ha Ha

#73.  Kingsman:  The Secret Service.  The first of a series based on a comic book, The Kingsmen is produced by Matthew Vaughn.  It is a spy thriller featuring Taron Egerton and Colin Firth as Kingsmen trying to prevent Sam Jackson from taking over the world.  You will never think about Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird the same ever again.

#72.  Paddington.  No way this film makes this list.  I expected this to be so bad and yet it was as charming and warm-hearted as any movie you could see.  Paddington inspired a great sequel as well.

Image result for xmen first class cameo#71.  X-Men: First Class.  As this was announced, I had no interest in any more X-Men.  X-Men Origins: Wolverine had burned me enough as had X-Men 3.  However, with some amazing casting (such as James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto) and a cool idea of placing this in the 1960s (during the Cuban Missile Crisis to be exact) and having one of the best cameos of all time (from Hugh Jackman), First Class put the mutants back on the right track.

2019 EYG Schmoedown Awards

We just listed the Top 30 Matches from the Movie Trivia Schmoedown according to EYG.  Now we are going to do the different awards.

Once again, this is my opinion.  You are allowed to disagree with me all you want.  Just be respectful.

And yes there are Schmoedown Spectacular IV SPOILERS here so be aware.

Image result for Movie trivia schmoedown

Image result for dan murrell schmoedownPlayer of the year:  Dan Murrell. It was tight, but Dan won the singles title, defended it, won the teams title, defended it, won the Free4All.  Runners-Up:  William Bibbiani, Mike Kalinowski, Ben Bateman, Rachel Cushing

Team of the Year: Shirewolves.  This was really tough too.  The year was split into two halves in team competition and the Shirewolves just had a more dominant first half than anyone else.  Runners-Up:  Founding Fathers, Shazam, KOrruption, Odd Couple, Who’s the Boss

Manager of the Year:  Tom Dagnino.  He solidified this award in the last few months.  The first half of the year, it looked as if Tom was done.  After Spectacular, clearly he is on top of the world and the leading candidate for 2020.  Runners-Up: Roxy Striar, Kaiser, Ken and Grace.

Live Event of the Year:  Free4All.  Just a great day with Bibbs and his incredible run, Murrell picking up the win, The Kid announcing himself a star.  Always such an unpredictable day.  Runners-Up Schmoedown Spectacular IV, Houston,  New York.

Related imageRookie of the Year:  Kevin Smets.  This is one that was won at the Spectacular.  When he won the IG title in a pretty dominant fashion and Oyama dropped his title, Smets calimed this award.  He was one word (Peter) away from undefeated.  Runners-Up:  Paul Oyama, Tom, Paul Preston.

Faction of the Year:  The Five Horsemen.  Another one that did not look to be happening at the year’s start, but the Horsemen stood tall at the end of the Spectacular.  Runners-Up:  The Dungeon, KOrruption

Face of the Year:  Rachel Cushing.  Still just a great face character and a wonderful human being.  I hope rachel is having a good retirement.  Runners-Up:  Dan Murrell, John Rocha, William Bibbiani, The Kid.

Image result for kalinowski schmoedownHeel of the Year:  Mike Kalinowski.  He was really more of a tweener this season for most of the time, but Mike knew how to push the fans buttons if he needed to and we saw that at the Spectacular again.  Runners-Up:  Andrew Ghai, Kaiser, Paul Oyama

Moment of the Year:  John Rocha shows up at Spectacular.  Is Rocha gonna show up?  He has been sick in real life and now his match with the Founding Fathers vs. Shazam is in question.  Great moment when those lights go down and even better performance from the Outlaw.  Runners-Up:  Matt Atchity challenges his team’s win, Bibbiani goes #1 to #40 in Free4All, Andrew Ghai returns at Spectacular IV, Ben Bateman spins Spinner’s Choice twice in Houston, Shirewolves retire.

Shock of the Year:  Shirewolves announce retirement.  Who saw this coming?  Apparently Rachel was burning out and needed time off.  The Shirewolves were dominant and their departure opened the league wide up.  Runners-Up:  Matt Atchity challenges his team’s win, Andrew Ghai retires in backstage interview, The Nuke, Dagnino wins Draft Bowl.

Image result for Greg Alba at Free4allBest Cosplay/Costume of Year:  Greg Alba from Free4All. He came out in the outfit of Bradley Cooper from A Star is Born and acted out the scene where Cooper pissed himself.  Hilarious on the live stage.  Runners-Up: Chandru Dhandapani, Jeanine the Machine.

Best Competitor (Entrance):  William Bibbiani.  No one does more creative entrances, whether it is as a single or as a team, than William Bibbiani.  He is constantly raising his game in the ideas.  Runners-Up:  The Paddington Two, Jeanine the Machine.

Related imageBackstage Interview of the Year:  Founding Fathers lose to KOrruption in sudden death.  Such emotion in this interview that Jenn Sterger nearly started crying too.  Both John Rocha and Dan Murrell were questioning themselves but they turned it back to gold.  Runners-Up:  Founding Fathers win titles, Mike Kalinowski wins IG title, Founding fathers defend titles at Spectacular.

Best Promo Guy:  Ken Napzok.  There is some serious competition here too, but Ken is just so good on the mike that it reminds you of the best years of Cactus Jack, Ric Flair or other star wrestlers.  Runners-Up: John Rocha, Mike Kalinowski, Andrew Ghai, William Bibbiani.

Best Interviewer:  Jenn Sterger.  No contest.  She is just the best.  She can give with the best and can get the emotions out of everyone.  She is not afraid to ask the tough questions.  The backstage interviews are never as good when she is not there.  Runners-Up:  Emma Fyffe, Brianne Chandler.

Image result for Loony Bin SchmoedownBest Character(s):  The Loony Bin.  Where did these two come from?  Video Drew and Tom exploded on the scene and became everyone’s favorite new characters with the awesome new gimmick.  And, they are dang good at the game too.  Runners-Up:  Andrew Ghai, Robert Meyer Burnett, Mike Kalinowski

Innergeekdom Player of the Year:  Mike Kalinowski.  Even with the tough defeat at Spectacular, Mike wins this one.  He defeated Rachel Cushing to win the title and he defeated Smets for the first time.  It was close with Smets, but Mike gets this one.  Runners-Up:  Kevin Smets, Chandru Dhandapani, Rachel Cushing.

Best on the Desk:  Mark Ellis.  Still the best…around.  Mark Ellis has the best quips, the best banter and…comedy..ha ha ha ha ha. Runners-Up:  Ken Napzok, Clarke Wolfe, Kristian Harloff, Danielle Radford, Emma Fyffe

Top 30 Schmoedown Matches 2019

Image result for schmoedown

The magic season.

This was, perhaps, the most difficult list that I have compiled yet.  The Movie Trivia Schmoedown was just amazing this season.  There were so many awesome matches from the first live event in New York to the Schmoedown Spectacular IV.

By the way… this post will contain SPOILERS for the Spectacular so be warned.

So literally, from 7 or 8 to 20 or so, any of these could be interchangeable.  There were so many great matches in all of the leagues.  It was amazing.

This will be my top 30 matches of 2019.  You may disagree and that is perfectly fine.  With this many great matches, you probably have an argument.

EYG Top 3 Memes of 2019

There are memes every year.. in fact, too many to deal with.  However, we at EYG like to pick out a couple of the biggies for the year and highlight them here.

I have chosen three memes for the year.

#3.  Ok, Boomer.

Image result for ok boomer

From a Google search: “Thousands of teens have responded through remixed reaction videos and art projects with a simple phrase: “ok boomer.” “Ok boomer” has become Generation Z’s endlessly repeated retort to the problem of older people who just don’t get it, a rallying cry for millions of fed up kids.”

#2.  Baby Yoda.

Image result for baby yoda meme

Baby Yoda has become a phenomenon from Disney +’s Star Wars program, The Mandalorian.  Baby Yoda is cuter than all get out and it has inspired a rush of memes.

#1.  Nancy Pelosi’s clap.

It was the State of the Union and it sure seemed as if Nancy Pelosi was conveying a message to President Donald Trump besides just applause.  At least, the Internet sure thought so.

The EYG Worst Movies of the Decade #90-81

WorstMoviesDecade

Saw some more tweets about how terrible the “Worst of” lists are and how no one should be doing them.  To that I say…. if you do not like posts that list the “worst of” then don’t read them.  However, it is my right to do them if I so choose.

I chose not to comment on the Tweet, which I wanted to but I avoided.  I was proud of myself.

Anyway… here are the nest 10.

#90-81

Image result for a team movie#90.  The A-Team.  I was looking forward to this one, but I was really disappointed.  I watched the TV show as a youngster but the movie was severely lacking.

#89.  Hangover 3.  This was actually the best of the Hangover sequels (there may be another one of those on this list eventually. SPOILER).  Too many penises all over the place.

#88.  The Nun.  This one made a lot of money considering, but the film was just not that scary.  Maybe a sequel will do better like Annabelle did.

Image result for dark phoenix movie#87.  Dark Phoenix.  The final FOX X-Men movie was not good.  This was the second time that FOX was unable to make a good film based on the Phoenix Saga.  Maybe Marvel Studios will give it a shot at some point.

#86.  RIPD.  This was basically Men in Black with ghosts.  Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges should have made this more successful, but this comic book adaptation was anything but.

#85.  Neighbors 2.  I did not like this movie or the original.  Too much juvenile humor in my mind, despite a solid cast.

Image result for lone ranger movie#84.  The Lone Ranger.  This movie did not know what tone it wanted to have or what kind of movie it wanted to be.  Johnny Depp as Tonto was most likely a poor decision.

#83.  Jonah Hex.  Another DC property that did not work despite seemingly being cast well.  I did not hate this as much as many, but there is no denying that the film was not good.

Image result for tmnt out of the shadows#82.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:  Out of the Shadows.  This was the last time the Turtles have made the big screen.  It was one of the worst times as well.

#81.  Inherent Vice.  This one a lot of people liked, but I found it boring and confusing.  I honestly do not remember much about it.

2019 “I See Kid Actor” Award

Kid Actor

This has been a fantastic year for the child actors.  There is a crop of actors who just seem to bring it every time.  The days of it being acceptable practice to have a kid actor who cannot hold their own are over.  Heck, there are projects that are the lead of the show.

This can be a kid actor from either movies or television.

Previous Winners:  Emjay Anthony, Jacob Trembley, Millie Bobby Brown, Dafne Keen, Elsie Fisher

#2.  Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit)

Image result for roman griffin davis jojo rabbit

If someone had told me that Roman Griffin Davis wasn’t going to win this award this year, I would have laughed in their face because he was so brilliant in Jojo Rabbit that he was a shoo-in.  This is one of the best kid performances ever.  In fact, it other years, Kyliegh Curran‘s work in Doctor Sleep, the Good Boys cast, or Saniyya Sidney‘s Fast Color could have won this.  The Stranger Things 3 cast is great every time they appear.  Asher Angel & Jack Dylan Grazer made a wonderful pairing in the DC Comics movie Shazam. Julia Butters had my favorite scene in Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in HollywoodLouis Ashbourne Serkis was the modern day King Arthur with Excalibur.  Charlie Shotwell led the horror movie Eli on Netflix.  Gabriel Bateman led the remake of Child’s Play and he was vital to make that film work.  Even though The Goldfinch was terrible, Oakes Fegley wasn’t the issue.

And the winner…

Noah Jupe (Honey Boy)

Noah Jupe was transcendent in Honey Boy, the film based on the life of Shia LaBeouf.  He had to carry so much of the emotional weight of the film that Honey Boy would never have worked.  He took this character through the spectrum and it was a marvel to watch.

EYG Top 100 Movies of the Decade #90-81

Top100

#90-81

We continue on with our list of the Top 100 movies of the decade according to EYG.

Related image#90. Creed.  A film that I did not think was going to work, turned out great as Ryan Coogler had his second great hit with Michael B. Jordan.  Sylvester Stallone resumed his role as Rocky Balboa and wowed everyone.

#89.  The Big Short.  The ensemble film that told the story of the 2007-2008 financial crisis that was triggered by the housing market.  Adam McKay turned what could have been a boring topic into an entertaining romp.

Image result for dont breathe movie#88.  Don’t Breathe.  A horror/thriller that was as intense as it could possibly be that included a frighteningly intimidating performance from Stephen Lang.

#87.  Wind River.  Jeremy Renner helps with an investigation from FBI agent Elizabeth Olson about a dead body found in the snow.  Two great performances from these two Avengers.

Image result for nebraska movie#86.  Nebraska.  On old man thinks he has won the Publisher’s Clearing House and insists on his son driving him to the state capital to collect.  An amazing character story with an epic performance from Bruce Dern and one from June Squibb.

#85.  Mud.  Matthew McConaughey played a fugitive named Mud who meets two young boys who found him living on an island.  Mud is a fascinating story that focuses on the life of the young boy, played by Tye Sheridan.

Image result for three identical strangers#84.  Three Identical Strangers.  The first documentary on the list and it tells you a story that is almost too unbeleivable to believe about three men who were triplets separated at birth.  And that is not the most shocking part of the story.

#83.  Life of Pi.  A masterful film, gorgeous visuals signifying the advancement of CGI and the artistry of the images.  Directed wonderfully by Ang Lee, Life of Pi is astounding to see.

#82.  Shazam.  The DC hero once called “Captain Marvel” had his own stand alone film this past year and it was highly entertaining.  Funny and exciting, Shazam was very important for DC films.

Image result for rami malek bohemian rhapsody#81.  Bohemian Rhapsody.  “Is this the real life?  Is this just fantasy?”  The biopic of Queen worked because of the brilliant music of Queen and a spot on performance from Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury.
