EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week

May 29, 2025

Welcome to the first official EYG Favorite Comic Covers of the Week on Thursday. I decided to wait until Thursdays to pick up the books from both Comic World and In This Issue before doling out the medals. I picked an exceptional cover week to star the switch to Thursdays. I picked out a possible ten books with awesome covers that we in the running. I also ignored the Captain Planet #1 I got in the mail from eBay today. It is a lovely Mark Spears cover.

Speaking of Mark Spears, our current leader for the cover artist of the year had a book this week, Green Lantern #23, that did not make the cut for a medal. This is one of the few Mark Spears covers that I got on time that has not placed somewhere in the top three. It speaks to the quality of covers this week.

And it looks as if there are three Image Comic entries in the medalists this week. Two of them are variants.

Let’s go…

Bronze Medalist

G.I. Joe #7

Incentive Wraparound Variant H

Cover art by Andrea Milana

This may seem like a gimmick, but I really was drawn to this cover, with the partial head of Beachhead die cut and wrapped around the book. This was awesome.

Silver Medalist

Universal Monsters The Mummy #3

Cover art by Faith Erin Hicks & Lee Loughlin

I saw this cover a few weeks ago in passing. As soon as I saw it, I thought this had a chance to win a medal. I just love this compelling look at this character and the sides to her. The bloody hand is all the more riveting.

Gold Medalist

Feral #13

Variant Cover B

Cover art by Tony Fleecs & Allen Passalaqua

This is easily the best of the horror-themed variant covers for Feral, and calling it Feral the 13th was also a stroke of genius. I love the creativity and cleverness of this design and it fit so perfectly in what they were trying to do. I did not mean to do the pun (purr-fectly).

The Last of Us S2 E7

Spoilers

“Convergence”

“You wasted it!”

What an end to the second season of The Last of Us. Abby comes face to face with Ellie and it sure seemed as if Abby shoots Ellie.

Ellie killed a couple of Abby’s group earlier, including Mel, a pregnant woman, and it was clear that it hit Ellie hard. Mel became collateral damage in this revenge and that shook Ellie to her core.

With the screen going to black when the shots are fired, we have no idea what happened to Ellie. Most series I would say that it was obvious that she would be fine, that it was someone else’s gun going off, but about a month ago, the show killed Joel so I would not put anything past it.

It did end the season with the idea that the show was going to switch POV to Abby as the episode ended with a chyron stating “Seattle Day One” on the screen after we saw Abby in the Wolves’ stadium. I do not know how excited I am in seeing the POV of Abby in this whole thing. I hate this character of Abby and I do not want to have my opinion changed on her. I am not interested in a redemption arc for her, seeing everything that she has been through. She killed Joel and she killed Jesse. I am sad for the loss of Jesse, by the way. I should have known earlier in the episode when Jesse said that he was not dying that it was just foreshadowing the end.

By the way, the short time that Ellie was on Scar Island with the Seraphites was utterly frightening. I was not sure how Ellie was getting out of that situation as the noose was around her neck and she was just about dangling off the ground. She was seconds away from being gutted like a deer by the Seraphites. Thankfully, an alarm goes off, preventing the scarred psychos from completing their ritual. Ellie has that luck roll working for her.

The shots of Ellie on the water in the thunderstorm was amazing scenes. The power of the storm was clear and the danger that Ellie was willing to put herself in to satisfy her own selfish vengeance is fully realized.

I was not sure that this was the finale of the season, and it left off at a horrible moment. Then, Abby seemingly the focus of the third season, at least at first does not make me anxious for the show to return. It is absolutely a quality show, but I worry that it may push some viewers, particularly those that are not the game players, away.

Sunday Morning Sidewalk #18

Spoilers

“Playing House”

Last week, I was not very interested in the new story arc that The Sandman was starting off. This week, I am all in.

Funny how a week can change things. The whole story of Rose Walker and her search for his brother Jed was not catching my attention. I theorized last week when Rose showed up in the Dreaming at Morpheus’s throne room, business might be picking up and I was right. Right now I am fully engaged with this story of a sister trying to reunite with her brother.

We got more abut Jed’s life, trapped in a basement as his cruel foster father collected $800 checks every month and how Jed escaped into his dreams, with the aid of one of Morpheus’s missing nightmares, Gault, to become a super hero called The Sandman. Perhaps it was this dream that grabbed my attention, but, whatever it was, I thought this was so much more entertaining and gripping than it was last week.

The Corinthian was back again, being brutal and vicious in the most gentlemanly manner. When he showed up to take Jed, it was both a happy moment and one of anxiety. One thing is for sure, I was happy with the fates of the foster parents. They deserved every bit of what they got.

It seems more and more to me that Morpheus is not the hero of this story. On the surface, it appeared as if he wanted to help Rose find Jed, but it appeared that he only cared about retrieving Gault. His punishment of Gault was over the top too. I have to not think about Morpheus as a hero and instead thing of him like a force of nature. He is much like Galactus. Galactus consumes planets, but he is a necessary cog in the universe’s life span even if his actions could, at times, seem villainous.

The Lyta/Hector storyline still does not intrigue me near as much as the main story with Rose, but the dream baby does have some interest.

I am looking forward to next week’s installment, which is episode nine of eleven. We are coming to the end of the second program in the Sunday Morning Sidewalk series. I am actively looking for the third TV show to include after The Sandman concludes in three weeks.

Going to Venus

By Billy Bob Joe

Part 1

I went to space it was a delight but when I got there it was a fright

I landed on venus plucked some grapes ate them up and maybe some tape

I went to explore and was very adored

I saw some kids playing with toys and made me think of little boys

They were playing with a seesaw and it made me beatbox

My partner antonio tried to go to romio

These words can’t describe the delight but a one word could be fright

Antonio and I saw some things it was very weird

He wanted to go to jupiter but if he went he’d get stupider we stayed on venus and he became the meanest

My grace was taken just like brace taken off I no longer want to be here but I won’t be sent off

On venus here I am to this day and i’m starting to want to stay i’ve seen some things it was pretty scary but antonio started looking hairy

Antonio said come on brad go find your dad

Part 2

These weird people came to my planet and I know they aint it

I need to find away for them to stay before the vanish away

They won’t be here much longer so we need to make venus stronger

You may pay to live another day

I will steal your rocket key for you to find peace

Me as an alien I’ve found a way to make these ugly people stay

I went on the rocket took some food chewed it up like pizza hut

It would be crude to not be nude

I plucked some grapes and planting tape

I needed some help so I went to yelp

I saw this guy named Mr. Fuss and he definitely wasn’t a bus

He came off the rocket but antonio had to block him

These people were walking around and exploring but

that one astronaut was adoring

These people are weird and they need to stay i wouldn’t want them to vanish away

They are starting to like my planet venus it is i like it to don’t be rude i’ll tell you to

This weird man named antonio looked very hairy

There’s a code blue and I’m a slug alien too!

Going to Mars

Going to Mars

Part 1

Mars oh, it seems so far

Thought I could only wish upon a star

Though every night it seems we get closer

I am starting to lose closure

Now it is time for packing

No time for slacking

What should I bring

Maybe my wedding ring

As my husband fights on earth

I move on to new turf

Now i’m on getting on the rocket

Hope I don’t throw my shoulder out of socket

Hope I make without losing my locket

I will try to keep it in my pocket

Hope is the only thing I have

There is no one to pave my path

Day 127 almost their

I can almost smell the martian air

Hope we land safely

I think about it daily

I am starting to feel hazy

4 more days till arrival

This spaceship is starting to feel like my rival

I can see it in the distance

Just have to have patience

Hold tight for impact

We hit the ground and we are still intact

I hope it is safe

Just have to have faith

I step off the ship

Bite my lower lip

It’s everything I could of hoped of

Part 2

What do I see

I think we found our key

We have found our escape

It has been a long wait

But how do we get them to stay

We need them to see how wonderful it is here

Little do they know that soon they might disappear

“Hello beings of earth, now your on our turf”

“This place is even better than earth”

Look at our food

Ready to be chewed

It would be just crude

Not to move

Leave your ship

Promise we won’t dip

I will even bet my poker chip

We will help you get settled

Let me just take your big piece of metal

“Here is your house”

Little do they know soon mars will be quiet as a mouse

Ok aliens time to get moving

This is our time for proving

Lets move to saturn

Leave this blank pattern

Oil Planet

Oil planet.

Part 1.

I am making my own planet named oil planet.

It is a dark wet and not many people want to go there

to get some oil but they don’t want to get dirty

from all the oil. But one brave person named Easton.

He was scared to go but he still went.

NASA gave him a spaceship that can go anywhere.

And so he said his goodbyes and there he went.

He was half way and he was about to lose his oxygen tank.

His tank was gone now he was in full panicked mode

and now he had to get his 2nd  tank out but it

was now where to be found.

So now he was about to die

 And got the last tank.

Thank god it was where it should be and now he has a little bit of oxygen.

Now he was close to getting to the oil planet to

get some oil but then his spaceship exploded but luckily the

presser from the cab was too much so it was the only thing that

was okay.

But now he was about to land but then…

Part 2.

He saw some unimaginable things: people that aren’t people,

animals that aren’t animals.

They were like monsters but not monsters.

But the people that were up there were clown looking people.

So Easton got out of the ship and they all walked up

to him and said hello earthling.

And Easton said hello back but

they did not respond, they just gave him some oil and

walked back to their homes.

He did not know what just happened

but he is happy that they have left.

Now he had to get his oil and

leave so he did just that and got all the oil

he needed but the rocketship was gone.

He had to walk to the clowns and they had

it but they were trying to start it so he got

in with them and helped start it and they all went back to earth.

Our Future

Our Future!

Part 1

Jupiter is where we were told boys get stupider

Little did we know it could be our future

I packed my bags, to prepare for the next day

What should I bring, maybe a game to play

The journey would be scary, and long

So I will put my headphones in, and listen to a song

While I board the rocket ship

My stomach does a flip

Precision is mandatory

Or I will be the next News story

New discoveries weight for me

This is  where peoples kids may celebrate turning three

This is where people will learn

This is where parents will help their kids grow a fern

Code red

Code red

Someone call Fred

Check the fuel

The rocket is out of control, like a baby mule

The moon is out of site

I use all my might

Fred shouts I found the problem

Just in time about reached the bottom

We get back on track

Too late to turn back

One hour later

I am no longer a hater

Jupiter is awesome

As beautiful as a blossom

Our future is bright

Now it’s time to sleep through the night.

Part 2

What is that noise

It looks like new toys

Oh no

Oh wait

Could this be the day

Us aliens will not back down, we are here to stay

Those humans are trying to take over our space

They did it on Earth, and gave us no grace

Jupiter is our home I refuse to go

That means no time to be slow

We will plan our attack for five o’clock sharp

No evidence can be left so we will use a tarp

I sound our trumpet to wake up the troops

Uh oh, I am getting the nervous alien poops

We prepare our weapons, and load our space car

Because after we attack the journey is far

We are almost there

With time to spare

They are still in that thing

Don’t they know it is morning

Aliens unite

We must give fright

We must give them fear

We must make them regret ever coming here

We must make them pay

For getting in our way

Look here they come

In armour so white

helmets to fight

And this thing that looks like it has lots of might

Aliens attack

Surround front and back

There is no escape

Make a tight shape

Slowly come closer

But keep a strong composer

“Fred HELP!”

The human said as she grabbed a skelp

You took Earth from us

And our leader Mr. Fuss

You must pay

And not live to see another day

This is our home

No humans can roam

Fool me once

You must be a dunce

Forgive and forget

More like remember and revenge

“I am sorry for the past

But we need to know fast

Earth will be destroyed

And people are starting to get paranoid

We have no place to stay

Don’t leave us stray

Jupiter can be shared

Or are you to scared”

“We are very advance

Especially in dance

We challenge you to a dance battle

So hope you know how to straddle”

Once the human was done speaking

I began thinking

There is two of them, and tons of us

This can be payback for Mr. Fuss

Ok, we agree under one condition

If we win Everyone from Earth has to cook in our kitchen

The human looked confused

Then started to look amused

The human said, “So no matter what we get to stay here?”

Well is the water over there clear?

“Yes?”

The human said, with much less stress

Mr. Fuss would not want violence

So turn the music up, I am tired of the silence

Let’s dance, and have fun

So you can go back to Earth, and tell people that Jupiter has won

My Trip to Uranus

BY Al O’Vera

Part one

I am an astronaut headed off to uranus.

I was excited for us.

We went on a rocket ship

For our very long trip.

Braelynn and me

Had some tea.

But we hit asteroids
They looked like they were on steroids.

They spilled our tea

So we were gonna flee.

We wanted to go home

But I fell asleep and dreamt of a gnome.

I woke up and looked outside and saw a star

The star was very far.

The oxygen was low

And the wind started to blow.

We saw the asteroids again

So I locked my dog in a pen.

We had to sacrifice our dog

Because he was an oxygen hog.

He breathed very heavy

He belonged in a chevy.

My friend Braelynn

Likes to spin.

Her brother Koda

Wants a soda.

But we were out

And he started to pout.

We had hotdogs

We ate them like hogs.

Braelynn had a friend named Bailey

She brushed her hair daily.

She smelled like aroma

It smelled so good I almost went into a coma.

We could see the planet

So I put on a jacket.

I looked out my window

And saw a black widow.

We landed on the big blue planet

And we jumped out like a rabbit.

Part Two

What is that big thing

It landed on Uranus with a ting.

We are mad

We think they are bad.

They hopped out on to our dirt

I think their name is burt.

One said their name is Braelynn

We ate her as she started to spin.

The other one cried

So we fried

Her up.

And the last one threw up.

We are spidermen

We do not have women.

The one tries to shoot us

On our planet uranus.

She jumped into her big thing

With a ting.

We tried to catch them

We stood still like a stem.

They flew away

Like they were in may.

I stood right under the big thing

That said ting.

There was a bright light

And I went night night.

The Time I Went (Or Was Supposed to) Go to the Sun

By The Mindless Big Back

Part #1

Ready for takeoff…

Then the countdown,

I look at my family and then I frown,

Will I ever see them again?

What will I do without them?

10,9,8,7…my son is only eleven!

3,2,1… I’m heading towards the sun!!

I look to my right,

That sun is really bright!!

Will I ever see them again?

I will never know till the end.

That’s when I hear it,

I don’t want to get bit!!

Pitter patter, pitter patter,

The steps behind us were all a clatter

A loud screech to the moon,

We all knew that we were doomed.

Closer and closer I hear,

It is the end I fear,

An arm reaches out,

I scream and shout,

That’s what it’s all about.

Crash boom bang!!

We land on ufo,

We fling out the window,

And fall, and fall, and fall,

On to a black widow.

Then I crash land,

Onto some sand!!

I see the figure in the distance,

Then it pushes me out of existence.

I screamed and hollered,

I didn’t want to be bothered,

It’s coming at me,

And that’s all I can see.

Part #2

What was that?

Was it a cat?

How about that?

I do like cats.

They taste delicious,

Hopefully it’s not too vicious.

One is coming out,

It’s forsure a cat, Without a doubt.

One look at me,

And he starts to shout!

I don’t know what that’s all about?

I sure am hungary

That cat is free,

And NO MONEY!!

I can’t wait to eat that cat with some honey!!

I chase after that cat

He’s wearing a hat!!

And a suit,

And 2 boots!

That’s not a cat!!

I need a nap!

But I’m still hungry,

He is kinda chunky,

And delicious looking

I think it’s time for cooking!!

I got my pot and pan,

Now all we need is a man!!

Hurry up!!

We have no time for the pup,

Grab the cheese,

And let’s lure him in please.

Grab him!!

He’s a savage!!

Ooo, I bet he’ll taste good in cabbage!!

Grab him!!

I call dibs on his limb!

Now that we have him,

We can have a feast,

Now let’s say grace and eat this beast.

THE END!!

The Scary Adventures

The Scary Adventures

By Marsha Mellow

Part one:

I am an Astronaut headed off to Uranus.

Uranus looks like a big blueberry.

My trip is very scary!

My oxygen stopped working.

But then it came back,

which is good because I about had a heart attack.

I then saw an asteroid.

After I saw a bus

and on it was Mr. Fuss.

My trip is very scary!

The window started cracking,

but why did my computer start hacking?

My friend was along but I don’t know why.

His name is Miguel,

and has a twin sister named Michelle.

My trip is very scary!

Turns out Michelle had mice,

and they gave me all her lice!

I am just about to Uranus.

I am about to land,

in the soft sand.

I’m so excited.

I started smiling out my window.

Then I saw a black widow.

We landed safe and sound.

I hope I have fun

in the sun

My trip is very scary!

Part 2:

What is this big thing landing on Uranus?

We need to attack once they land,

so they dont ruin our sand!

Us spideys need to think of a plan!

Lets shoot them with our spidey web.

Hopefully they don’t show their biceps.

Nothing to be scared of,

They look like wimps.

But they better not steal my shrimp.

What are these things?

We need to attack!

Hopefully we give them a heart attack.

Spidey on three!

One, Two, Three… Spidey!

These people are not very tidey.

They are coming after us!

It’s fine they look like a wimp.

But they better not steal my shrimp.

We got them trapped,

but it wasn’t for long.

They started singing a song.

Their singing is so bad.

Oh no they got out of the web,

and they showed their biceps!

They started running after something.

It was my shrimp!

Turns out they are not wimps!

She heard a knock on her door.

She went down stairs and opened the door.

jimmy:(her manager at nasa) today is your mission to go to the moon. Did you get prepared?

Jessie: Yes, I am ready.

“They both leave to go to the rocket launch”.

I was curious, when it landed I ran up to the cylinder and people came out of it.

I got scared and ran away Into my nest with my brothers and sisters.

I think they saw me because they were going toward my nest.

But then they put a flag right next to my nest.

It was red and blue with white stars.

Then they got back on the cylinder and flew away.

EXTRA    Terry: I will be interviewing a retired astronaut today and see the risks and sacrifices on a space mission. Terry: Let’s start the interview “Jessie walks in” Jessie: i am an astronaut who went on the moon 2 decades ago and retired since then. Terry: Jessie, what do you think was the biggest risk of landing on the moon? Jessie: I think it’s when we almost ran out of oxygen so we had to use the space suits for oxygen. Terry: That sounds scary but did you still land on the moon? Jessie: yes we landed on the moon and we only ran out of oxygen on the way back to earth.

Characters:

Terry: the guy who is interviewing the astronaut

Jessie: the astronaut who got to the moon

John: the camera guy, he doesn’t speak much

Timmy: the guy who jessie talks to alot

Neptune

By Bigmack123

Neptune

Neptune a far, far, place from Earth

It will only take us 18.3 years

We have only had one problem

Space Captain Jack

As he walks through the ship in the shimmer of night

He moves like a shining light

Fast and swift

As if he was a cast drifting along water

Like a new home was await

Acting casual the next day

As if it was the perfect way

As if it wasn’t long

Captain Jack made it strong

Captain Jack making our training hard

As if he was going to do something after all

Finally we were only one day till we got to Neptune

Captain Jack pulled the oxygen hose

I froze

This is what he was training us for

I quickly plug it back in

Grab the tool kit

I hoped the part fit

And it did

He told me that we were training

But he was draining my spirit

We finally touched down on Neptune

As I kept my eye on him as he made me frown

And make me drown in sorrow of training with him

Part Two

I saw this spaceship landing on my planet called Neptuaning

 For humans the planet Neptune

Then I seen this guy walk out in this space suit

Followed by another evil looking guy

I noticed him from somewhere

It was my nightmares about him

I can tell the future when I sleep

Then the other guy saw me and chased after me

Lucky in my dream he was the good guy

So I stopped around the corner

He caught up to me

He asked what I was

I responded Fred

I am a fred

He said his name is Jim

He started trusting me more and more

I led him back to my home

I told him my power

I told him that the guy he came with is evil

So he made me sleep and tell the future

The good guy dies

I told him and the we came up with a plan

He went back to the spaceship

He tried not acting suspicious

He did a pretty good job

Once they went inside to eat lunch

I snuck around and looked for a way in

All of a sudden I heard a boom zip

Then I passed out

I woke up in the spaceship

The Jim was being held captive by the bad guy

The bad guy had a sharp blade in his hands

But I can slip out of tight places so I untied the knots

That were holding me down then I seen it

The bad guy threw the blade at Jim

I jumped without a doubt

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh

Jim shouted why would you do that

I was hit with the blade

I told him that it was ok and that he

Should beat the bad guy

Then I passed out

I woke up in a hospital on the space station

Jim walked up to me and said that he was glad I was okay

Then I realized my prediction was wrong I had changed the future

It was for the best

Jim said that he took the blade

Then forced him out into neptune

He had little food and water

And a spacesuit

Then we took off back to another planet

Never returning to Neptune

Space Trip to Mars

Space Trip to Mars

By Ballerina Cappuccino

Part one

Mars if not so far

Hop on a bus with Mr. Fuss

As we take off I start to cough

Never so scared

But the weather is nice up there

Stomach swirling

Hair is curling

I feel like i’m going to throw up

Ugh I need to grow up

We all scream AHHHH

As someone laughs HAH

Were so high up

Like bro whats up

Digging through my bag

About to gag

What’s that noise?

Oh it’s just kids playing with toys

As we zoom through the air

With our hair in the air

Looking at the stars

While eating granola bars

Hands in the air

Like we just don’t care

We took a right

I’m in such fright

Looking through my pocket

Thinking I should lock it

Feeling the gravity

I have no cavities

Getting my gear

As we start to steer

As I brush my hair

I remember to check my air

I see Mars

Over all the stars

Landing on Mars

And sanding our cars

Part two

I’ve never really believed in aliens

Oh i just saw my friend Marion

Jumping on mars

Watching the stars

Getting my nails done

As the rails come undone

As I say hey to Marion

Something gets in our way

Weird and green

I need some cookies and cream

I lace my shoes

As I hear some moos

Freaking out

As my friend is tweaking out

I think I see a Alien

Next thing I know they are trying to take me

I say make me?

Were all yelling

Im telling my dad

My dad got taken

It wasn’t rad

Oh hey Brad!

Running for my life

 I see my ex wife

She ruined my life

An alien I see

I have to take a wee

I think I have diarrhea

What is this criteria

Will I get out?

Will I freak out?

June Swoon 4: Two A Day!

We are under a month until our fourth annual June Swoon… except, there will be a twist this year.

There have been a lot of movies that I have missed so far in 2025 that are showing up on the streaming services. I was looking for a way to do a big couple of day watch… much like the Friday Fun Festival I did late last year, but the timing just was not working out.

The list was getting longer when I came up with the idea. I knew the June Swoon 4 was starting on June 1 (I can announce that September 5 is the first film of the June Swoon this year), and I thought… what if I did a movie from this year every day as well.

Typically, the June Swoon is a DailyView, where I watch a movie that I missed from 2024, once a day from June 1st to June 30th. That will still be in place. Joining the movie from 2024 will be a movie from 2025, giving us two movies a day, every day for the month of June!

I love this as a new challenge. EYG has done the June Swoon for three previous years and this new wrinkle will spruce up the event even more. It will be a busy month as I would like to finish the X-Files this summer, there is the Sunday Morning Sidewalk continuing, and any continuing series are still on the docket.

I would guess that the new releases on the weekend during June will count as movies from 2025 for this challenge.

EYG Comic Cavalcade #149

April 19

Welcome back to the EYG Comic Cavalcade with issue #149. This week, I was able to purchase my final two issues of Groo the Wanderer, #114 & 115, which completed the series of Marvel/Epic Comics run, #1-120. I have been searching for these for about a year and a half, and I was able to complete it off eBay this week.

I also picked up a bunch of the Zdarsky Comic News issues. These were fun and were free! That made me very please and I liked the format.

And happy Superman Day everyone! I have never been a huge fan of Superman, but I do respect him and think that he could be done well with the proper writer. There were several freebies on Superman Day and a reprint of All-Star Superman #1 with the most beautiful foil cover.

Books this week:

Ghost Man #1. Written, drawn and cover art by Raymar Brunson. I have been searching for this for a month or so. It has been so tough that I was starting to believe that this was just a rumor. Todd checked in Des Moines and some of those shop owners had never heard of it. I finally saw it on eBay, but it was over 30 dollars and that was too much for me. I found another one at a much more reasonable level and I bought it. Then on Friday, it arrived. It existed! And it was great.

X-Factor #9. “Lost Causes.” Written by Mark Russell and art by Bob Quinn. Cover art was done by Greg Land & Frank D’Armata (Bronze Medalist). This is the penultimate issue of this series, which is ending with issue 10. What does this issue give us? More Granny Smite! I love Granny Smite! Oh, there is some Archangel too.

Sam Wilson: Captain America #4. “Better Angels Part 4” Written by Greg Pak & Evan Narcisse and penciled by Chris Campana. Taurin Clarke did the cover art. With floating cities above most black cities of the Marvel Universe, Sam and his crew look to stop Eaglestar. Thunderbolt Ross is here too. What happens when he becomes the Red Hulk?

Exceptional X-Men #8. Written by Eve L. Ewing and art by Carmen Carnero. Cover art was done by Carmen Carnero & Nolan Woodard. Mister Sinister is here. Trouble is in the leaves for these characters.

Summer of Superman #1. “The Past, the Present the Future.” Written by Mark Waid, Dan Slott and Joshua Williamson with art by Jorge Jimenez, Belen Ortega and Dan Mora. Variant cover art by Alexander Lozano. I only picked this up because of the cool Supergirl cover, but I read the story and I really enjoyed it. These are three immensely talented writers on this special so I can understand why this worked for me.

Superior Avengers #1. “The Everlasting Gaze“. Written by Steve Foxe and art by Luca Maresca with Kyle Hotz. Cover art by R.B. Silva & Jesus Aburtov. Variant cover art by Joshua Cassara (Silver medalist). Doctor Doom needed an Avengers squad and he found a bunch of alternate universe “heroes” to form this group. Fun group.

Buried Long, Long Ago #1. Written by Anthony Cleveland and art and cover art by Alex Cormack. Mad Cave has been on fire lately and this is another new and fantastic book from this comic company. It was dark and disturbing, and I loved it.

Spectacular Spider-Men #14. “Home and Hearth.” Written by Greg Weisman and art by Andres Genolet. Cover art was done by Mark Bagley & Edgar Delgado. Peter and Miles have to take on the Lizard to help out the Connors family.

Wolverine #8. Two stories written by Saladin Ahmed and drawn by Martin Coccolo. A third story written and drawn by Daniel Warren Johnson. Cover art by Martin Coccolo & Bryan Valenza. This is the Legacy number 400 of Wolverine as the war with Adamantine continued. I was also sad as the new Wendigo, aka Lawrence, was cured. I liked the new Wendigo and I was sorry to see him go even though it was nice to see the kid overcome his curse.

Godzilla vs. the Hulk #1. Written by Gerry Duggan and art by Giuseppe Camuncoli. Cover art was done by Lee Garbett (Gold Medalist). Ever wonder what a Gamma-powered Godzilla might be like? Wonder no more! I am not a huge fan of this version of the Hulk, but he is always awesome against other massive monsters.

World’s Finest #38. “Chapter One: Superior Species.” Written by Mark Waid and art by Clayton Henry. Variant cover B by Adrian Gutierrez & Matt Herms. This is the first issue of the World’s Finest/Justice League Unlimited crossover. We face off with Gorilla Grodd in this issue. Grodd takes over Superman’s mind. That is a bad thing.

Ultimate Wolverine #4. Written by Chris Condon and art by Alessandro Cappuccio. Cover art was done by Alessandro Cappuccio & Frank Martin. This was a fascinating issue with most of the issue using a wolf battling a bear. However, it is more than what it looked like. This has been a solid Ultimates book so far.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8. “Fighting our Way to Nowhere.” Written by Jason Aaron and art by Juan Ferreyra. Variant cover B art by Kevin Eastman. This Jason Aaron run on TMNT has been spectacular. It is so full of character development and interactions between the Turtles themselves. This issue featured Donnie and Leo mainly.

Redcoat #11. Creators are Geoff Johns & Bryan Hitch. Cover art was done by Bryan Hitch & Brad Anderson. Redcoat continues to be one of the best reads of the month. This issue brought us a tale during the Civil War and we see the debut of the Northerner.

Absolute Flash #2. “Of Two Worlds Part Two” Written by Jeff Lemire with the art and cover art by Nick Robles. This Absolute book, after just two issues, may be my favorite of the Absolute books from DC. I love the look of the book with the art and the design of each panel and Jeff Lemire is one of the best writers in comics.

Challengers of the Unknown #5. “Rock & a Hard Place.” Written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Sean Izaakse & Amancry Nahuelpan. Cover art by Sean Izaakse & Romulo Fajarod Jr. This short series of the Challengers came to a close as the mystery of what was happening was revealed… sort of.

Sister Imperator #2. Script by Corinna Bechko and art by Puste. Cover art was done by Mikael Eriksson. This new Dark Horse book has been really good so far. What is it like to be fired out of a cannon at a circus? Here you go.

Iron Man #7. “Bow Down to your Doom.” Written by Spencer Ackerman and art by Julius Ohta. Cover art was done by Yasmine Putri. Tony Stark is trying to do what he could to prevent Dr. Doom from continuing to control the world. Victorious showed up here too.

Daredevil: Unleash Hell #4. Written by Erica Schultz and penciled by Valentina Pinti & Jose Luis Soares. Cover art done by Paulo Siqueiro & Rachelle Rodriguez. Elektra vs. dark Elektra. Muse vs. Muse. This one has all kinds of conflict.

Other books this week: The Hive #3, Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1, Mine is a Long, Lonesome Grave #3, Zatanna #3, Power Man: Timeless #3, Frankenstein New World: The Sea of Forever #2, The New Gods #5, and Arkham Horror #4.
